It could be that no one who has seen this knows. Thanks in advance.
Or would I be completely wasting my time ringing up SQ to request this?.
Your best bet would be to choose an aisle/window seat further back in the cabin and hope middle seat remains vacant. Is there any chance of securing a shadow seat so that we can guarantee a block of three seats between us, say? Or would I be completely wasting my time ringing up SQ to request this? Does VA WP give us anything like this on SQ?
Thanks in advance.
hmm seems like I may need to call the call center to clarify this. That must be the case. AFAIK SQ has/had a policy that if a fare must be purchased once they turn two, even if this is midpoint through the itinerary. Qantas will base it on the age of the child at the time of outbound travel (ie if turns two after travel commences, they will honour the lower fare).

Not exactly news...Not sure if it's been discussed here but just checked in at MEL for our flight to LHR in first then suites and noticed the snazzy new check-in counters. Also noticed all boarding passes are pro Ted on generic white cards now and no longer the colour coded boarding passes. I enquired about it and was told it's due to the new counter system they have. Is that a new/permanent change with these new counters in MEL and possibly elsewhere?

My mother (who is 77) was to fly on SQ256 (9.10am departure) to Singapore from Brisbane this morning on a J redemption. We are currently in Sri Lanka and meeting her in Singapore on the way back. She wants a few days shopping on her own first!
Sri Lanka is 4 1/2 hours behind and when i woke up this morning I had a message to say that she was at the boarding gate but there was a delay. Next message was that they were being sent back to the lounge. The delay was for around 40 minutes and next message was that she was on board. After about 30 minutes I received next message to say on way back to the gate as there was a problem with the brakes (was a 350).
There was another delay of around 40 minutes waiting for a gate to become available (how is Brisbane Airport going to cope whe the second runway opens!) and when they got to the gate the aerobridge would not connect to the 350, Another delay whilst a gate with the right aerobridge was found.
Eventually got off the palne around 12.20 and around 1.15 mum messaged me to say she was offererd a seat on SQ236 which leaves at 2.30. Now in Singapore.
SQ256 eventually left around 3.30
I remember a 50min delay once and wondering how the heck the people in Y were managing. 5hrs would have been unbearable.May 9 had 5 hour delay on SQ805 to push back from PEK at 08:55 with doors locked - I felt like I had died and gone to heaven - 5 hours in J drinking Charles Heidsieck served up by the stunning SQ girls - god I love delays!
A bummer for the delay but at least she was in J. It would have been so much more disappointing & draining if your mum was in Y with no lounge access. Good they offered her 236 (another 350 so no downgrade in aircraft).
All up around 5.5 hours delay into Sing & unlikely your mum would be rushing off to shop in the evening she arrived.
I feel for the poor buggers that had a connection but at least SQ do look after them well.
