SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

So which way would you go?

MEL-LAX

QF93 - 14hrs 25mins - 144K pts + A$456 - MEL F Lounge = 14hrs 25mins F flying + 1 Lounge visit

SQ238 7hrs + SQ12 7hrs + 10hrs - MEL F Lounge / TPR arr / TPT dep / NRT ANA F transit - 154K pts + A$147 = 25hrs 05mins F flying + 4 lounge visits - total journey 44hrs 50mins

No brainer huh?
Did I miss something here? Of course SQ. ;)

Hrmm... I'd probably burn QF on that, even with the fuel penalty.

SQ/ANA F is good, but availability is better - burning QF for F is like striking gold, whereas much easier with SQ.

At least for me it seems that way.

Except two days before flying the aircraft will get subbed for a 787! :D

Currently have a one way *A award YVR-LHR-SIN-SYD on AC J, SQ 777 F, SQ A380 old suite. This was booked before devaluation last year. Have had waitlist on sq221 (new a380 suite) since last year.

The magic email/SMS came through today and the sq221 is available to confirm.

So to get the waitlisted flight to confirm, the whole ticket needs to be reissued eventhough the change is a SQ sector. This means an extra 27500 KF Miles.

Has anyone been successful in confirming sq flight changes on a *A award without reissuing?

Also, if reissuing is the only way, I am considering replacing the LHR-SIN part with the following:
* LHR-FRA in LH J
* FRA-DEL in LH F
* DEL-SIN in SQ regional J

This will give me my first ever FRA FCT experience, but will attract an extra $350 in taxes and charges (on top of the 27500 KF Miles difference) and spending quite a few air hours in J compared to the direct sq F LHR-SIN.

What would you do?

FRA-DEL is quite a short flight. You'll get the full LH experience, but not so good for sleeping. LH F is equivalent to SQ F, just a [completely] different service style (European v Asian). I would skip the FCT in favour of the FCLB though. I find the latter much better... identical to the FCT but with views of the airport and planes. (Oh, and better bathrooms.) They'll still drive you to the plane if it departs from anywhere other than B.

Tough call, but if you have the time LH F will mix things up a bit.

Thanks MEL_Traveller. I wouldn’t be sleeping on the FRA-DEL to get full experience and sleep at transit hotel in DEL. Thanks for the tips on FCLB vs FCT. I wonder if I can visit both? E.g. go to FCLB after getting off LHR FRA flight, and then go to hotel nearby overnight, and then go to FCT pre departure?

It would make my decision easier if LH releases a FRA-SIN F award seat. It’s currently half full based on EF seat map.

Even if you can get through to the departures concourse (I'm not sure on the requirements for that, like whether they need a same day boarding pass), LH lounges also require a same day boarding pass in order to enter. So an overnight might mean you're not eligible. https://www.lufthansa.com/au/en/Lounge-types-and-access

Originating from FRA the only advantage of the FCT, IMO, is the lack of walking. I still think the FCLB wins hands-down for a much superior experience.

LH doesn't release award seats based on occupancy of the cabin. They seem quite happy to fly around empty F cabins.

Just a question for you experts

What's the question? If it's about seating, 3A or K for a solo, and 3CD for a couple.
Sorry Mel.
It seems I still suck at putting pics up.
OK my question is.

This is isn't. Even for my flight but I'm getting excited for them.

Seat selection.
I would assume if you are travelling solo the window seat on the right is the best assuming you are right handed 1f for the 777
And 1f 2f 3f

And for the couple obviously the centre ones with side by side. But trying to. Avoid the galley and toilets ?
Is that what this forum has taught me correctly

Row 3 on the A380 is perhaps preferred because it has three windows instead of two. Being in the middle of the cabin also means it’s not too close to the galley at the back, but you still get the crew passing from time to time in case you need anything.

Left or right hand... well perhaps more important is the side you sleep on, if you are a side sleeper. While the a380 suites are enclosed, the 777 are not. Some people don’t want to sleep facing directly on to the aisle.

For seating on the 777. Single row you would sit in 1A as a solo, as far away from the galley at the front right as possible. This minimises noise and light and increased traffic to and from the galley.

If it’s two rows, row 2 is preferred by some because it is set back a bit more from the bulkhead. Staring at a wall three feet away doesn’t suit everyone. And there’s more traffic than row 2. So on a one row 777 i’d take 1A, on a two row, 2A.

For the a380, row 3, either A or D. (and for couple 3CD)

On Book the Cook - due to jumping time zones and wanting to sleep, I’ve asked them in the past to hold my BTC to the later snack service and had something like the salad and cheese and crackers at the main meal time. No issues from them at all doing this.

Thanks for your info. Super super helpful

And one more question , for my education

Does choose your seat options typically get taken at last minute or months before the flight?

it is first come first served for set selection on SQ so I lock mine in as soon as the reservation is confirmed.
