it is first come first served for set selection on SQ so I lock mine in as soon as the reservation is confirmed.

I'm just curious I have some flights for 6 months in advance.
The flights have sold out. And I forgot about seat selection and it's been a few months since I reserved the flights, and yet as of today all seats are still avauble which I was a bit surprised about

Depends what you mean by 'sold out'. And what you mean by totally all seats are still available. This would be unusual as at least some passengers would have booked their seats. If you are talking about a premium cabin, it is possible there are few advance bookings, and even of those that have booked, they may not have selected their seats yet. Where were you accessing the seat map?

That's due to a difference between the availability of award seats and revenue seats. An airline may choose to offer no seats at all for award travel (including no waitlist), or only offer awards when certain combinations of flights are booked (for example MEL-SIN-LHR might be available but MEL-SIN and SIN-LHR not available individually).

Seat maps are rarely an indication of the number of seats sold, or still available. And it can work both ways. Cathay seat maps for example might only show one seat available for pre-selection (2D), giving the impression that all others are sold. In fact it might still be a totally empty cabin, with no seats sold at all, but only 2D is available for general passenger selection (2A and K are blocked for bassinets, 1A and K are blocked for premium pax). That SQ's seat map is wide open could mean that there are none or some passengers booked, and that those who have booked haven't selected seats yet.

I can rarely work out Lufthansa's seat maps. My flight a few weeks ago was showing 5/8 occupied or unavailable, but we went out 2/8. And this is not uncommon. (I think at least one seat is blocked for bassinet, and some passengers might have been no shows.)

Hi all closing in on booking 3 pax reward in J from ADL to Frankfurt (or anywhere around Germany) in sept 2019, Im like a kid in a candy shop with all the options, can I have some advice from those with experience to find my best option, what is best in J the A380-800 or the 777-300 ER and one option has a 22 hour layover in Singapore, would you recommend this and have a night to sleep in a hotel or just take the 8 hour and fly through the night to final destination

Currently have a one way *A award YVR-LHR-SIN-SYD on AC J, SQ 777 F, SQ A380 old suite. This was booked before devaluation last year. Have had waitlist on sq221 (new a380 suite) since last year.

The magic email/SMS came through today and the sq221 is available to confirm.

So to get the waitlisted flight to confirm, the whole ticket needs to be reissued eventhough the change is a SQ sector. This means an extra 27500 KF Miles.

Has anyone been successful in confirming sq flight changes on a *A award without reissuing?

Also, if reissuing is the only way, I am considering replacing the LHR-SIN part with the following:
* LHR-FRA in LH J
* FRA-DEL in LH F
* DEL-SIN in SQ regional J

This will give me my first ever FRA FCT experience, but will attract an extra $350 in taxes and charges (on top of the 27500 KF Miles difference) and spending quite a few air hours in J compared to the direct sq F LHR-SIN.

What would you do?

After several calls, finally found one agent who was happy to confirm my waitlisted sq flight without reissuing my *A award ticket! No extra miles needed. I think I will stick to my original lhr-sin on sq F in this case.

Unless the pax actually *want* to visit Singapore for a stopover, I'd just fly straight through. Mucking around to leave the airport, check-in, waste a day, and then repeat in reverse doesn't achieve much. (Yes, part of the 8 hours is wated time anyway, but what time is the connection to FRA and what time will they have to check out from the hotel?). If the pax want sleep to maximise the J flight there are options with the airside transit hotel.

That would be the best option. Not worth the extra miles and cash and time to swap to LH.

The 1400 gets in evening time. Probably better for readjusting the body clock. The 3pm arrival from ADL plus the 1400 departure seems a good option, and convenient for hotel check-in and check-out.

Definitely take the 1400 so you maximise waking (and eating/drinking) hours in J.
I personally didn't think much of the airside hotel in T2 - it was very noisy and not a relaxing place to spend more than 6 hours.
The Crowne Plaza is absolutely wonderful - it is attached to Terminal 3 and it is very quick to both exit and re-enter the airport and get to the CP. I really enjoy the swim in the CP pool to stretch out the back.
While you are staying at the CP, you can also experience the basement level 2 food court land-side. Very good food for low prices.

Or is it in current TPR menu?

Also, anyone know what the "Japanese Meal" thats listed as only being available in F? It's not kyo keiseki - that's listed aeperately.

We flew F SIN-NRT-LAX in December and menu and meals in my TR.posts 30-41. I had the Japanese options.No need to book.

As drron points out, if your flight is to/from/via Japan there will be a Japanese meal option. Other flights you'll need to request it. (Can't help with the difference between the meals as I don't book them.)

I think for pure SQ awards, they would have no issue confirming the flights and treat the change as a flight time change. Most agents seem to think that changing anything on a *A award, even if the flight in question is SQ operated, it requires a full reissue.
