SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

And so the rot sets in - SIN-ICN-LAX-ICN-SIN disc as of Nov 30 leaving only 4 daily SQ F seats bw SIN-NRT-LAX-NRT-SIN - going to make F Savers nigh on impossible to procure. This is first year I have not been able to auto secure F Saver SIN-LAX 1st avail booking date.
And no better on return flt LAX-NRT-SIN either - repeated chasers for both outbound and inbound met with defeaning silence.

I will book J as security net - if F does eventually clear we can just cancel the J booking.

Heartbreaking huh cove - you told the little lady yet? Go on - don't be a chicken!

Here I am slaving over a hot IPad determining which credit card to use for land tax, income tax, company tax ,BAS and payroll tax. Life wasn’t meant to be easy but I am battling on.
Bill Shorten could really help by raising all of our taxes.....
Now Mrscove seems to be going very well too as I have her credit card to run up some Miles for her.

Resolved

Whats the process time for the call center to come back confirming stop overs on a one way redemption? Phoned yesterday gave the details for the flights required IAH-MAN-SIN-PER, requesting stop overs in Manchester and Singapore. They took my number and said they would call back but still waiting 24hrs later. Should I have redeemed the flights first and then sought the stopovers from the call center? Bit worried availability may disappear while awaiting the call back. Any ideas guys?

Wont matter how many gazillion KF pts you cultivate if you cannot redeem for F Savers all of a sudden they don’t look quite so appealing!

ATPIT you can pretty well kiss goodbye any chance of 2 x F Savers SIN-LAX.

Ok guys answered my own question above by calling the call center back, previous guy is on leave today, anyway managed to reserve the flights required. Just a query on the taxes which have now gone from USD49 to USD1000, could not get an explanation from the person at the other end on the reasons why? Am I correct in assuming due to the stopovers, I now get hit with taxes for each sector rather than just the departing airport?
Thanks

UK departure taxes are brutal in J and above. If you have a stopover then the taxes are charged.

Fortunately I got 2 F awards SIN-LHR.But coming home from LAX-SIN the day before I wanted had 2 F awards on day of release but since then only waitlist which I presume wont clear for me.

Something weird when looking at Krisflyer redemptions on the redeye out of BNE SQ246 at 23.55. Its a great flight to go anywhere in Asia, for the same points as to Singapore.

No matter what final destination I try, eg BNE>CGK the 23.55 flight doesnt come up as an option. Yet BNE>SIN works and plenty availabilty from SIN>CGK and anywhere else for that matter. Have tried this for a wide range of dates, even 9 months out, and its all the same

Its as if Singapore airlines is saying "if you wanna fly out of BNE at 2355 you have to stop in SIN

married segments, or at least availability based on segment control.

Mrscove has said for years that I should be realistic and be ready to pay for tickets. With gazillions of points and Miles in 4 groups I am not ready for that extreme. Sometimes we do go on non saver flights and my ability to make frequent flyer points and Miles is still going well.
Last night I put $5,000 ATO on a new credit card for a family member so she qualifies for a bonus. Two other family members are getting much more this month as they have run down their Miles to very close to zero.

You've got too many points hungry mouths to feed. If they have more children, I can only imagine how hard it will become to keep everyone topped up.

i get that, just didnt know the words :)
this just started happening recently (a month or two) and wondering if anyone else has noticed and has some info (before I ring)
I have a rewards flight already booked next week, and I cant take it, so I am trying to change it and I actually get no availability it all to change it to (even though each segment is available)

Can I enter the TPR on arrival into SIN after a redeye for a shower and breakfast etc?
If yes, what happens with checked luggage - can it be collected and taken in, or picked up from unclaimed luggage on leaving etc?

You can.

Head straight to the lounge from the plane. After you have finished, head through immigration and to the left luggage section by the bag reclaim belts. Make sure you use immmigration at the terminal you arrive at... this is where you baggage will be (if for example you arrive at T2 and go to the lounge at T3, you’ll need to go back to T2 for immigration and your bags).

are you confident to just let your luggage stay there for the 'left behind" i'm way to paranoid to do that :)

it’s absolutely fine. In fact the Singapore Airport authorities tell you to do it if you are going to the transit hotel for example (ie, you can’t get back to the hotel once you have your luggage).

Other people have long connections on separate tickets and wait airside until checkin opens for their new flight.

Others will go to a lounge if their flight arrives super early.

Many reasons, lots of people leaving their bags. The whole system is pretty efficient... once the last bags come off a flight anything left is moved to a secure area by airport staff. You then present your ID, collect your bag and off you go.

Thanks for that, for just plain old luggage I could leave them there, but I always travel with my golf clubs. :( Its hard enough to let them go at checkin.

Once you have passed immigration you can’t get back in to the departures area again unless you have an onward boarding pass. And if you do, you can’t enter, use the lounge, and then exit again.
