SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yep apart from new R being so poorly designed they are a ridiculous waste of real estate there are a multitude of other flaws that still bewilder.

They may be fine for the me me me solo traveler but hideous for a couple who want to share the time together. Engage Senior Cabin Crew and assess some of the feedback - new R even a PITA for crew as galley so much smaller than before they keep getting in each other’s way.

Crew are also staggered how the myriad of faults could ever get past any reasonable QC.

We have booked F/old R to LHR next June - the Ette almost did cartwheels when I told her it was old R and not new.

I have J booked to ZRH Sep 2 with R W/L - I was able to get 96D released to me so I have no real desire to waste the pts on new R for an o/n flt - how things have changed.

With the 12 Suite old R you could not prise me out of 3C - new R if you have to pay Adv rate borderline decision.

Looking at April/May 2020

THere's plenty of Sq318 x2 savers but thats on the 777. I'd rather fly the a380 if we are going to fly for that long and that far and hence impossible to find 2x saver on the a380.

That explains it then. We booked 2 x savers SYD-LHR (old suites) for May 2020 ..... but I booked right on the award release date.

Same for the trip back ..... plenty of old suites available, but we coughed up for new suites.

By end 2020 they're expecting all A380s to have the new configuration anyway :(

I was told SQ have a woeful record for updating cabins to announced timetables - like most airlines. On our last suite trip one of the FAs was adamant that SQ weren't going to update all A380 to new suites.

No idea if either of those statements are accurate.....

If they do roll out across the board you can see award redemptions really tightening up. 50% reduction of seats = trouble for suite savers IMO.

I book right on the release date and am happy with old suites.
Ditto. I'm more than happy with old suites, there is ample space and the double bed is just amazing. I definitely wouldn't stump up Advantage rates just to try out the new suites, my points are too valuable to waste!

F = free unlimited wifi

Finally, some great news. 100MB is pitiful when flying in F/R, if someone paid for a comm ticket rather than an award rdmpt, it'd almost be an insult to find out there's only 100MB of internet given complimentary...

I believe it's right that some of the older A380s - the ones being retired - will not receive the upgrade. but these will be replaced with new A380s that come with the cabin already installed.

The comment was more along the lines that high demand routes like SIN-FRA-JFK would remain with 12 seats..... who knows?

I guess availability of new R for Saver rdpts going forward is always going to be a product of demand and supply - but opps do exist. PVG has and continues to offer availability since new 380 appeared on 830 time slot.

Whilst 828 was available for a 04/06/20 or 05/06/20 dep 830 had been showing Adv only. I had J on 238/830 booked for 04/06/20 booked but check today shows this:

So a couple of clicks online and for 22K pts + A$36.45 we go from this:

To this:

And no problem booking 2A as solo pax:

830 dep 09:35 gets full lunch menu whereas 828 dep 08:05 gets i - I hate the brunch only flts - I also have 238/830 Savers W/L for a day earlier which is my ideal dep date but I can live with dep 1 day later.

Moral is Saver rdpts may or may not get easier to achieve on other routes -just keep checking. I did get 2 x Savers on new R SYD-SIN-ZRH in Jun this year but they were a bit of a rarity.

Can someone remind me of guesting conditions to TPR and/or F Lounge if flying first on an award ticket? Cant find it anywhere.

Out of curosity
What are the biggest complaints?

TPR access for SQ R/F pax only (Comm or Rdpt tix) - zero guesting into TPR.

SQ R/F pax (Comm or Rdpt tix) can guest 1 into SKL F/J Lounge.
Semi-related question:

Mrs MN and I are travelling MEL-SIN-LHR on award J tix departing MEL on SQ218 this December.
My brother is travelling MEL-SIN-BLR on an award Y ticket departing MEL on SQ238 on the same day (exactly 10.5 hrs later).

If all 3 of us do end up going to the airport together, can we guest my brother into the MEL SKL?

I think your biggest issue here will be that the SKL closes between departures

With the speeds offered, even on the longest flight I'd be surprised if one could exceed 100mb/flight.
