SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

If you transffered at the start of the year then you would have essentially up to 3-5 years expiry wouldn't you? Forgot how it exactly works, as I'm sure one of the SQ gurus can clarify the exact method.
IIRC you can essentially book flight 355 days in advance (3 years + 355 days) then change dates later on (3 years + 355 days + 355 days), which I guess brings it close to a 5 year expiry.

Or extend your points expiry buy paying with points? then use the above methods to make it 5+ years.

If you have heaps of points to burn and want to go Europe, try and book the new suites (Advantage fare only) if you haven't tried yet as that'll burn through some points.

I didnt know of the extending option, i assumed the max is 4 years, book at the end of 3 yrs for a year later, but if you cancel, youd lose your points, so you have to be sure,

im sure this problem will come up more in the future, but due to amex devaluation , many convereted their points to the best program which consensus is KRIS

I have also done that, now I face the good problem of not being able to use my points before expiry,

ill give some away to family, ill try and do F in every trip, and ill squeeze in as much travel as poissible ,

what would you guys do? options?

Happy to be one of your redemption nominees to assist run down your points!

Thanks Mel_Traveller,
One more question, My wife first name is Toni-Ann as in her PP, and when I booked the flight I wrote it as
Toni-Ann ( I think) and on the booking it has come out as ToniAnn will this be a problem??

Thanks
Clive

This is normal. Airline name fields can’t handle special characters or spaces. Combining multiple names (no spaces) is therefore the norm.

The part which will need clarification is the timeline for "rebooking" your flight to further extend the points and the limit on how many times you can rebook.

If I had points that were going to expire in KF I would just transfer to Velocity and wear the exchange cost.

I doubt I will ever have this issue though.

When you rebook you can't go beyond the maximum expiry period as per ticket validity. From memory I think this is 12 months (or at least I could not go beyond that when it I have tried to go beyond it). So if you book the maximum out then you cannot cancel and rebook for a later date again. You can rebook for earlier dates.

Or if you only booked for say 5 months out, you would still be able to book for the full ticket validity period.

You can't book a ticket for say 11 months in advance and then try and book it again for another 11 months just prior to the date of travel.

Need help booking 3 F seats to Europe (arrive LHR and dep CDG). I've worked out that I'll need to book 1x Saver and 2x Advantage seats to get the 3 F award seats.

Do I just book the 1xSaver seat first then hope/assume that there's still 2x Advantage seats left to book once I've taken up the last saver seat?

Why not split up by a few hours into a two and one to try for two savers? If not you could call the 02 phone number.

I search for JFK and always see Advantage fares available whilst Saver fares are rare. When is this for?

Why 2 x advantage? I recently booked 2 x savers SYD-LHR, saw plenty for the trip back, but given we prefer new suites we went with advantage for the trip home.

[Continuation of the SQ Suites SYD-SIN-(FRA)-JFK post]

After being absolutely stoked to get my wife and I from SYD to JFK entirely in Suites next year, it was time to book the return flight(s).

Our plan was always to land into the US on the East Coast (JFK being the perfect port of entry to arrive into the States in Suites), and then depart from the West Coast (we weren't too fussed whether the port was LAX, SEA or SFO, it all depended on availability first and foremost).

So, after much waiting, checking and finally pouncing at the right moment, I was able to snag 2 x Business Saver on LAX-SIN-SYD confirmed without waitlisting. Again, as with the onwards journey, SYD had availability while MEL did not. A small price to pay to travel in comfort to/from the US. 242,000 KF + 69.64 USD later, and the golden words "Redemption confirmed" appeared. Bliss ensued.

Thanks once again to one and all for all tips, tricks and tales that cover everything SQ related. Have never tried SQ J before, only SQ R. Really looking forward to a solid 17 hours in the air aboard SQ37 LAX-SIN!

Regarding seat selection, both Rows 11 and 19 (bulkhead rows on the A359ULR) and Row 11 (bulkhead row on the 77W) are blocked. I did ring up the KF contact centre with a request for the seats at the time of booking (a bit less than 2 weeks ago), they put in the request but nothing yet so far.
So, apart from 11 D/F on these flights, any suggestions for the next best? We've currently chosen 12 D/F.

I have 6 out of 6 flights success of moving to row 11 through manage my booking 48 hrs before departure. That aside we always choose 12 D/F as our initial choice but haven't sat in them yet.

Thanks so much for that info. That's great to hear, which flights have these been on? Any of them on a A350 ULR?

The centre seats are not that easy to converse across. Are you willing to forego the window on such a long flight for the few minutes you might be talking?

Perhaps reserve windows now, check out the centre seats on your way to America, and swap to the centre after you've seen them and think you'll prefer them. Will keep yur options open as the wndows will go fairly quickly.

Looking at April/May 2020

THere's plenty of Sq318 x2 savers but thats on the 777. I'd rather fly the a380 if we are going to fly for that long and that far and hence impossible to find 2x saver on the a380.

Our turn this week with Mrscove going 2A this time letting me go 1A in the A380 new Suites that CE thinks are just too big. I guess that is called taking one for the team.
Time for some R&R for the two of us as we have had a busy few months. Time for me to try the Krug, icy Vodka, the French red along with the caviar and food selections before the Sleep Gods take me off to dreamland.

An SQ fare special may make a difference to availability JFK - FRA - JFK.

Yes, although hopefully, as this is their high-density A380 it won't make too much of a dent!

SQ currently has fares ex ARN to Australia for AUD3500 return. That could make a dent in availability on the SIN-AU legs :(
