SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Check out this beaut from MEL SKL J section this morning - SQ really doing their best to make journey comfortable for pax.

Special shoutout to lounge agent Thomas - an absolute gentleman and a scholar.

Our resident SQ expert CE even managed to make his way into our conversation!

T-shirts are home made - I always BYO sleepwear cause the SQ sleeper suits are way too heavy and hot - it’s just a bit of fun with onboard crew - but you can personalize your own T-shirt with a boarding pass design at Aiportag.com - T-SHIRT - I do have a couple of these on the way also

Hello and apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this question but I am looking to make a KF redemption booking for 2 from Sydney to Manchester at the end of May. There are seats available at 53000 points each Sydney to Frankfurt on SQ and then Lufthansa availability to Manchester. Does this have to be 2 separate bookings or just 1 ticket I would need to phone to book right through and how many points should it be?

I had a similar situation I was booked on SQ through to IST, but needed an additional flight on Turkish, wich I could see redemption seats available via the SQ site, called SQ, and managed to get them to add in to the same booking, and the points to add the flight were way cheaper than booking it standalone.
Also means it's all in the same booking so baggage checked through to the end.

Yep yep and yep - I posted pics yesterday about the bit of extra storage space next to windows in 19A / 19 K compared to none in 11A / 11K - and as I posted above we all see things differently - I would never book 11A or 11K
Hi Mate, how do i find the pics you posted Please

Hoping this is the right thread for this question......
I am planning a trip from SYD to MAA in the next 3 weeks. I will book J for 168000 KF miles return.
I want to use my wife's points as they will expire at EOY but she only has 153577 KF miles in the warehouse. So I am 14423 miles short. She has no credit card in her name that will earn points so I am stumped as to how to get this amount of points into her KF account.
Any suggestions???
Cheers,
Mitch

You can buy miles direct from Krisflyer but it's not very cost effective: US$0.04 per mile so it would cost you around AU$800 to get the 14k you need. There's a form that you need to fill in and email to them (and then just hope they process this in time while there is still saver availability): https://www.singaporeair.com/saar5/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/forms/Miles_top_up.pdf

Another option is to buy miles through one of the hotel programs (e.g., Marriott Bonvoy) which can be transferred across pretty much instantly, but she would need to have been a member of Bonvoy for at least 30 days. Cost is about the same. 45k Bonvoy points is US$562.50 which will get you 15k KF miles transferred at 3:1.

There are other options like shopping at the KrisShop or through Shop online and earn KF Miles with KrisFlyer Spree but that's going to cost even more unless there's something you needed to buy anyway, and the miles won't be there in time if you need to travel in 3 weeks.

One other idea -- are all of those miles expiring this year? If it's only some of them, have you considered just using miles for the outward leg and booking a revenue ticket to come back? It's significantly cheaper to book flights ex-MAA than ex-SYD. I'm seeing revenue J tickets on some dates in mid May for MAA - SYD as low as 99k INR which is around AU$1800 (vs AU$7-9k for an April - May return ex-SYD). While this is clearly more expensive than buying miles, you still have those miles left over if you can use them before they expire and of course you will earn miles in your account for future use.

Also I'm sure you are aware but you'll needed to be listed as a redemption nominee to book your travel with your wife's points. You can update this in her account if you haven't already.

Have you considered Premium Economy one-way - not sure of the difference in points - usually not worth but it may be in your case. Or here's another idea - just book SYD-SIN as a J class award and buy the SIN-MAA return sector.

So here is totally minor matter that I was not aware of until last week - on FRA-SIN sector on SQ25 in J I asked for Perrier as opposed to still water and noticed sparkling water being poured from a black can - thoughts imm go to cost cutting and asked crew who explained flts dep Germany always serve local German sparkling water and not Perrier - never knew that

Left my iPad in Seat 11D on SQ25 last Tue - only realised I had done so when clearing security pre boarding 217 to MEL - staff at gate called and checked and were advised YES it was found but no time to get it to gate before dep - no biggie send on later flt and I can pick up from MEL

Imm am onboard I call SQ MEL office and explained - they said OK call us when you get back and we will have it sorted

227 arr about 20:20 on Wed so I didn’t contact SQ MEL until am Thu - by this time they claim no iPad found - I called again Fri morn and still no iPad found

I emailed several SQ contact points including MEL Station Manager with all details and this image from ‘Find My’:

Clearly shows iPad in Changi T3 - Changi Lost and Found called me yesterday but I missed call - I called them back today and they still claim cannot locate iPad - OMG so frustrating

Asked them to listen closely as I activated ‘Play Sound’ but still claim they cannot find it - back on the trail again tomorrow 👍

Does anyone know is the A350 regional J seats have an HDMI port? Thought they do but sitting here in 19K and can’t find it. Suspect I may have been mistaken?

Inflight manager had no idea what I was talking about. Just pointed to the USB ports. Anyway, seems like there isn’t one. Maybe there’s one in the other A350 configs.

19K a definite winner. Huge footwell. Plenty of room for storing carry on bag where the bassinet would go. Would choose again.

When you get a chance go cast your eye over 11A/K and compare
Yes please, sounds like I might be missing something. Usually I'm automatically assigned 11A/K but hav been given 19 when they were unavailable. My recollection was that they were identical so I'm interested in your side-by-side analysis.
