SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

And I might also add I certainly do not intend to overtly try to become an expert on this product - the least number of times my cough is in these seats the better 👍
You and me both, I detest these seats as the footwell is like sleeping in a tiny coffin, even in the bulkhead. And there’s such a lack of adjustments with the lack of a leg rest.

I’m sure SQ will claim it’s as good as QF’s, but we all know their attention to detail isn’t quite what it was 🤣

Mind you these 350s with Regional layout were designed only as short to mid haul aircraft - up to 5 hours - never as long haul which is defined as >7hrs - it’s just that they are supposedly considerable cheaper to fly v 777 - but that still does not make them acceptable on AU east coast routes

The thing that worries me is the long-haul 350 fleet is now fully committed across their expanded US network and Europe. They’ve still got several more 359 MH deliveries to come, so one wonders where they’ll send them. Let’s hope it’s back to a more 777 heavy operation in MEL, but even that fleet seems heavily utilised now that they’ve retired some of the earlier airframes and returned others to lessors. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Question regarding First Class lounges SQ while TPR is out of action.

Mum and Dad are flying SIN-MEL this evening in F. Does anyone know what lounges F pax have access to, if any?

There’s a roped off section in the new J SKL for F. It’s on the right after you’ve passed through the bar and food pick up stations.

In my experience I’ve always been escorted there by the front desk staff.

Nothing to get too excited by, but the table service for food is a big help and you’ll never hear me complain about Piper Rare Millesime. Magic stuff.

Completely agree. We got shortchanged here in AU.

In reality SQ has used 350 Reg for secondary cities like BNE from the get go. While MEL & SYD will be back to full 380/777 fleet by the end of the year best we can hope for secondary cities is an upgrade to 350 long haul config which is nice and comfortable both for lounging and sleeping.

In a few weeks I will be trying to book J award flights AMS-SYD in April 2023 and the AMS-SIN leg is on an A350-900. I assume that since it is a 12hr30 flight to SIN that it would not be the regional version that is being discussed here. Is there a way you can tell which version is scheduled before booking?

Hard to tell until you see the seating map - not sure if an expert flyer search of the route would show you.

You could roll the dice and search the flight number and see what tail number the planes who normally fly the route are.

But tbh, I think your safe, that terrible J product is regional, sin to ams is long haul

Calling it terrible is really stretching the bounds of reality.

As for AMS-SIN, you'll get full fledged J. If IST-SIN gets it then AMS certainly will!

first world problems...but if your a regular sized person, then the product is quite good.

I guess its not designed for your standard western person, more so for those in S.E Asia (who are typically smaller framed from my experience)

I believe all 350 flights to Europe are long haul config.

You can tell by the seat map, It seats are staggered towards aisle/window it’s regional. If all seats look the same it’s the long haul version.

I really don't mind when flying out of BNE. At least with SQ you can get daylight flights both ways and 4 services a day. We are travelling via SIN in May and August/Sept. 3 of the seat maps say regional and 1 is longhaul. But again all daylight flights.

Being currently in the other side of the world I can finally contact SQ in the middle of the night there and wait only 15-20 minutes. I get the same agents multiple times, just shows how short staffed they are, or maybe it shows how often I call SQ these days 😂

Spot on Dr Ronnie as deficient as 350 Reg J seats are compared to 777 J if it’s daytime flt they are quite ok - if you had a choice clearly you would go 777 but either way soft product just does not vary and cannot be beaten - as always YMMV

We are off R SYD-SIN-LHR late May - J home ZRH-SIN-MEL late Jun - 1st sector on 380 so get best of SQ J seats to sleep o/n and 2nd sector 217 on 350 Reg J but daytime flt so no biggie - I gotta tell you hundreds behind you in Y would love those Reg seats

From 30 Oct SQ have 2 x 777, 2 x 380 to SYD and 4 x 777 to MEL. So far so good BUT now it seems only 1 x 777, 1 x 380 in SYD and 1 x 777 in MEL have F availability (cash and points). No changes in aircrafts yet so I’m not sure if it’s a bug in SQ system or maybe they are considering to keep 350s for bit longer and want to restrict F sales for now 🤷‍♂️

There is def something weird with SQ schedules later this year - Nov 1 throws up this:

4 daily flts but only 238 can book F - I don’t think so - I suspect 350s still slotted for 208, 218 and 228 - I hope I am wrong and only time will tell
