SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

There is def something weird with SQ schedules later this year - Nov 1 throws up this:

4 daily flats but only 238 can book F - I don’t think so - I suspect 350s still slotted for 208, 218 and 228 - I hope I am wrong and only time will tell

I’ve asked SQ about it last night and from their end no changes in aircraft. They see F cabins as sold out which is obviously not the case. I’m booked on SQ238 and will probably move to 228 to avoid any future swaps. Since there is no 380 service to MEL there is nothing to gain from metal downgrade on this route.

Well I have been trying to tell you no imminent return of multi 777 flts to/fro MEL on the horizon

But all said and done demand will dictate supply SOL

Well, aside from it being Cup Day (which is irrelevant), the First fare buckets on the three showing as "C" for "closed".

MEL somehow makes sense but halving SYD which is major and important destination for SQ seems odd. Even when there were 2 x 777 and 2 x 380 F award availability was scarce while MEL had wide open availability Nov-Feb.

Currently in the SIN SKL and wow, whoever described this as a zoo at night is on the money. Almost impossible to get a seat, lucked into one as a couple was leavening right as I walked past on my second lap. All the shower buzzers gone so advised to come back later. Does look a lovely space though to be fair and am impressed with what they’ve done to it.

Depends on the day, I was there on Monday and it was fine. No issues to score my favourite seats and not much queue at the bar. Other times I’ve been there in Dec and Jan it was a zoo so definitely hit and miss.

I have been booked to fly SYD-LHR in February on SQ242/306, both 777 flights in F after originally booking to fly in J. Last week I noticed that there was Saver availability for SQ208 MEL-SIN (777) onto SQ308 SIN-LHR on a 380. (There was no Saver availability showing at that stage for SYD-LHR on any flights connecting to SQ308 on the date I am travelling). I called early one morning and moved my booking to the MEL-LHR flights so I could have the opportunity to travel in Suites on a 380. I live in SYD but was happy to fly to MEL for this opportunity since I have never flown in F.

Good to see Saver Suites can still appear.

Does the SIN SKL have any work areas/desks?

I have a lengthy transit next month and will be looking to do some bookwork.

My preferred workstation in the new lounge would be the tan leather booths located opposite the bar. Natural light, plenty of space to have some documents on the table and close proximity to a caffeine booster. What I'm not sure of however is whether they have powerpoints. Maybe someone else can clarify.

Yes. Turn right after reception go all the way to the back.

My favourite seats but there aren’t many of them.
Need a bit of luck to score one when lounge is busy.
Bit of a noob question, I know, but...if when travelling solo, what's the best way to deal with seats and refreshments? Do people tend to leave luggage at the seat to secure it and make a dash for the refreshment points?

Yep.

Regardless of the lounge, I leave my luggage by my seat and am quite happy to peruse the food and bev offerings. You may like to keep your passport and phone with you and glance back from time to time.

If I am going for a long absence such as a shower, then I will take everything with me.

I'm quite a trusting person so am quite happy leaving my jacket over a chair, carry-on beside and maybe a book or non-essential document on the table. Usually hold onto passport, phone and boarding pass but not always.
Reckon you'd have to be a brazen thief to steal stuff somewhere there is likely to be cameras and only one exit

I make sure to keep my most valuables (wallet, passport, mobile) on me when moving around when traveling solo. Leaving the luggage behind is fine, most pax are doing that.

I will leave something obvious on the seat to make clear it has been taken. IE light jacket.

My carryon, due to documents and valuables, will normally go with me unless I am in line of sight.

Power points at almost every seat but only take British plugs from memory so you will need to search hand luggage for adapter.

Yes I think it's an unwritten rule in a lounge really. But high valuables I always keep on me - phone, wallet, passport, cash. Laptop etc stays behind if going to get food or drink, I have some faith. But as others pointed out, if going for a long shower or bathroom break, I tend to pack up and bring it all.

Yeah I noticed quite a few people curled up trying to sleep in them. You will need a lot of luck to get one if the lounge is busy, @serfty. However the best places to work are all located to the right of the entry anyway. To the left is mostly couches and food. There are sit down tables in the food area you can try but again, if the lounge is busy you will need luck to get a seat (and not private)

I didn’t check power points when I was there but TPR always hod outlets to suit our plugs

Edit: You guys might be onto something here - i was thinking about it o/n and i kinda think old J lounge only had pommie outlets also as I can remember losing a special adapter in their one time - but outlets in showers would suit our plugs to charge shavers etc - go figure
