Huge reductions in capacity to much of Asia still - virtually no flights to China. Even MEL is down in capacity (despite being full). Prepandemic, 32 flights/week (including 4 that continued to Wellington), until end of May only 21 flights. only about 65-70% of prepandemic capacity.
Ah, that really does explain things a little more.
Given a reduced capacity/schedule, and the pent-up demand from 2 years of missed international travel, coupled with Easter school holidays, made for a perfect storm for the completely full flights that I witnessed and was aboard.
Given a different time of year and/or with increased capacity, there most likely would be flights between AUS and SIN that would very well have spare seats.
To be honest I don't think I've ever stepped onto an SQ flight that's not been full - maybe just my luck (or lack thereof?). Anyway the SQ experience is still about as good as it gets in the air so I'll continue to fly with them, full flights or not.
For some reason pax select seats in the main J cabin and the smaller cabin usually has empty seats. I do notice more demand this year compared to 2021 but not yet 2019 numbers
I did notice this too - the flights I took just this weekend past were 1) In the main cabin (11A) and 2) In the smaller cabin (19K). Whilst both cabins were at capacity, the pax in the main cabin looked like more seasoned flyers - so I'm assuming they chose those seats in that cabin.
FWIW - I'm way more in love with 19A/K than 11A/K. Given the amount of love that R11 gets here and in other places, I found it massively underwhelming. 19A/K has way more storage and a better feeling of "space" - something that's priceless on an aircraft!!
