SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Does anyone know what time SQ updates revenue inventory? I had nearly completed a booking and internet dropped out. When I went back to redo, one of the flights was more expensive. Thanks in advance.

Bit of a noob question, I know, but...if when travelling solo, what's the best way to deal with seats and refreshments? Do people tend to leave luggage at the seat to secure it and make a dash for the refreshment points?
I am happy to leave my hand luggage at any seat, I keep my passport wallet (passport/ minimal cash) and phone with me at all times. As I know some of the AFF members who have responded to your question I would be quite confident in suggesting that when I have run into them the conversation went along the lines of "my luggage is over there" (which I added to) and then went to the bar or grab some food. I leave stuff in the lounges unattended all the time.

Just a question, are you coming over/ joining the the dark side ;):p
If using VA status for SQ lounge access before an economy SQ award flight SIN to KUL is the dark side, then yes. :)

Just a shame I can't get my Velocity number into the booking as seat selection is better.

So trying to book J or F/R for MEL-FRA-MEL or MEL-ZRH-MEL around Xmas and January and it's close to impossible to stay on SQ Metal.

I'm pushed to Swiss or Lufthansa flights or the SQ 777 for the FRA flights.

Booking one-ways and playing around with multi-city I can get the flights to show most times but when I go to book, an error that my request cannot be processed at this time.

I thought it was as I was after 4 seats and F/R was full, but the seat map is empty (when I can actually get it to show)

Suggestions ?

Also booking F, 1 or 2 seats comes up far cheaper per person than 4 seats. Would it work out cheaper to book 2 F and then come back and book the last 2 at the higher price ?

Especially given some big chunks of the pre-Covid network (specifically China and Hong Kong) are still more or less not operating and some other (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan) still have significantly reduced schedules.

And about time they upgauged MEL and brought back 207/8! MEL flights are really quite full at the moment (moreso than SYD, BNE and PER flights).

I can see 207/208 return June 2 or so - I thought it was a it earlier and maybe so - I didn’t spend a lot of time searching

June rings a bell, should have had them back in time for Easter.

I was supposed to be 238 today (economy, paid) but deferred to next week so I can attend a funeral early next week. The upcharge for moving ex-MEL was $650 or so. Flying out of SYD, where upcharge was only $140. BNE was less than what I paid.

Interesting point - I have a rdpt W/L with SQ AMS-SIN-MEL Oct 30 - SQ web site showing SIN-MEL sector on 777 - cursory check of comm flt availability on Google Flights displays this sector as 350

Still showing in ExpertFlyer as 77W. But are you waitlisted on 207 or 217? I think we both know that 207 is probably going to end up being a 350, regardless of what’s in the schedule at the moment, whilst 217 could/shoukd???* be a 77W.

Just checking, but booking 2x OW is ok to do now? There's no need to book a return ticket as there is no more restrictions in SIN wrt transit/customs etc?

I've flown 2x QF OWs in and out of SIN with no issues. Wasn't even asked to show my departure ticket , although I did list my planned return date on my SG Arrival submission.

Interesting... If the flights I've been on as of late (most recently being yesterday's SQ217 into MEL) are any indication, I'd suggest you're missing a 1 or 2 in front of your quoted figure! 161% or 262% would sound more believable.

Every SQ flight I've taken post-COVID has been completely full with not a single spare seat, in any class.

Suppose it depends on the origin/destination. I had few flights to/from BNE, none were full in J. Same for other destinations like IST or MUC, all on 350. For some reason pax select seats in the main J cabin and the smaller cabin usually has empty seats. I do notice more demand this year compared to 2021 but not yet 2019 numbers which can be reflected in excellent J award availability. Similar story with F, my SQ25 flight next week is 6/6 for long time now while the SQ237 only 2/4 so far.

You are waiting in SIN to catch 237? I’ve subbed J instead of F on 217 for a couple flts next few months until 777 back for 217 - o/n in F on 237 just not worth the wait IMHO

This was intentional, I could book strait connection via SYD.

I’m not waiting at airport. Will enter SIN, have a nap at Hilton (booked day use room) then look around town. I’ve missed Singapore.

Huge reductions in capacity to much of Asia still - virtually no flights to China. Even MEL is down in capacity (despite being full). Prepandemic, 32 flights/week (including 4 that continued to Wellington), until end of May only 21 flights. only about 65-70% of prepandemic capacity.

Ah, that really does explain things a little more.

Given a reduced capacity/schedule, and the pent-up demand from 2 years of missed international travel, coupled with Easter school holidays, made for a perfect storm for the completely full flights that I witnessed and was aboard.
Given a different time of year and/or with increased capacity, there most likely would be flights between AUS and SIN that would very well have spare seats.
To be honest I don't think I've ever stepped onto an SQ flight that's not been full - maybe just my luck (or lack thereof?). Anyway the SQ experience is still about as good as it gets in the air so I'll continue to fly with them, full flights or not.

I did notice this too - the flights I took just this weekend past were 1) In the main cabin (11A) and 2) In the smaller cabin (19K). Whilst both cabins were at capacity, the pax in the main cabin looked like more seasoned flyers - so I'm assuming they chose those seats in that cabin.

FWIW - I'm way more in love with 19A/K than 11A/K. Given the amount of love that R11 gets here and in other places, I found it massively underwhelming. 19A/K has way more storage and a better feeling of "space" - something that's priceless on an aircraft!!
