SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Oh that's interesting - I'm guessing BOM still has the A380 then?
I'd imagine there'd be enough demand to DEL for the A380 to still be viable there (I usually fly to/from BLR which doesn't have the facilities/runways for an A380 so have had to make do with the A350), so I'm surprised they're pulling it in favour of the 777.

On the plus side - does this signal a return of the A380 to MEL? A man can dream, can't he?
A380 to MEL yes dreaming

From the old 777-300s (Not ER's) in the past to the regional A350's

No chance

28/9 Called SIA got through quite quickly & for some reason after about 40 minutes lady said she'd call me back in 15 minutes.
After about 40 minutes nothing so I called back, got someone else & after 54 minutes, got the same I'll call you back, before the end of business.
2 promises of call backs. Last one insisting I keep my phone handy, yesterday. Still waiting SIA!👎

Have been a SIA Krisflyer member forever used to commute weekly BNE - SIN, 2 & sometimes 3 times a month over a 6 year period & was always Gold &/or Platinum

Here's a good one:
Flying SIA BNE-SIN-MUC-MUC-SIN-BNE in May next year.
15/9 SIA inform SIN-BNE leg I've been bumped from Premium Economy extra room 47,000 miles to Economy - no miles refund?
SIA indicated that the plane config had changed.
Checked - sure had changed all premium economy was now business!
16/9 I check Business availability & suggested to SIA that they take another 22500 miles from my account & upgrade to Business
21/9 Obfuscation email from SIA with no answer just a couple of silly questions, & we'll get back with you.
21/9 I repeated same as I had 16/9 ~ initiated a Business class booking [didn't complete] & they had plenty of BC seats ~ no response.

We'll see. Not @ all like the SIA I knew in the early 2000's.

Welcome to AFF.

Was this part of a through ticket to MUC or were the SIN-BNE leg ticketed separately? If the former the problem is the MUC sector complicates it and the SIN-BNE points are irrelevant as far as constructing the ticket are concerned, they are based on the Australia (Zone 9) -Europe (Zone 11) points table.:
- A mixed class booking cost the lower of the higher class all the way through, or the individual sectors. So, Y+ points from MUC-SIN-BNE (91.5K*) or addition of SIN-BNE in economy and MUC-SIN in PE (92.5K* ) .... so that's why no refund is due.
- Upgrading SIN-BNE to business class would involve 130.5K pts for Zone 9-Zone11 business class, so an additional collection of 39,000 pts!

It might be easier to accept the downgrade and ask for a "goodwill gesture" of KF points compensation (different department) rather than trying to ask them to bend the rules around Points Awards ( which is always going to end in tears when dealing with anyone that's part of the Singapore system).

Good morning & many thanks.
Was a member years ago, not sure what handle or email I used back then, so just rejoined.
Probably my Cat.com email?
Have used 'Award Flight Assist' successfully, a couple of times
SIN MUC is business return points & pay.
No SIN BNE is a separate points ticket, as was unable to book last June business right through & return, just prior to points being devalued.
Please explain goodwill gesture comment?
At this time I could get an economy ticket for way under the points that I paid for a seat that has been downgraded, if you understand what I mean.

Anyone know if the SQ check in counters at BNE opens earlier than 3hrs before flight or are they pretty regimented?
First time out of BNE with them since pre Covid and was hoping to get through a bit earlier.
The hotel has given us a 7pm checkout FOC but still need to kill half a hour or so

Those of you transiting SIN, ex-Australia, on SQ may be interested in this:

I recall redeeming something similar 5 or so years ago, but have a feeling it was more than $10 each way.

Receive up to S$20 worth of Changi Rewards e-Voucher when you travel with Singapore Airlines (SQ) from Australia, transiting via Singapore to anywhere in the world!*
e-Voucher(s) must be collected at least 3 days before departure from Australia, while stocks last.
*e-Voucher(s) can be used at all participating retail outlets in Changi Airport – no minimum spend required.
Terms and Conditions apply.

If eligible, you can use both 2x $10 in the one transaction:

1.5 CR e-Vouchers can only be used in denominations of S$10. For each transaction, only one CR account may be used. If one CR account has more than one CR e-Voucher, all the CR e-Vouchers in that CR account may be used in a single transaction.

When I flew out of BNE in April and when the other NoNames flew out the week prior it was right on 3hrs. Didn’t stop people queuing up well before that though.

And I would suggest for the sake of 30 or so minutes, just join the queue when you get to the terminal.

Cheers
Hotel is letting us check out at 7pm and only 5-10 minutes to airport. Flight departs at 2350 so counter should open at 2050. We will head over and jump in the queue early as BNE airport will supposedly be a mess this weekend

I’ve just redeemed an Adantage award for the first time, and to my surprise it’s booked into D class. I know it’s a non-earning points award, but D earns on several airline partners when ticketed by SQ. Has anyone been able to change crediting airline for an award with eligible booking class? Seems very unlikely, but I could always keep the physical ticket stubs and try for a retro earn to another airline like Virgin.

Just booked a mixed SQ-VA itinerary, SIN-ADL on SQ (J) and ADL-MEL on VA (J), all on the same itinerary/e-ticket, using VA points. Weird routing but that was the only availability for SIN-MEL at the end of Jan.

How does checked baggage work? This is the first time I'm getting to MEL via a domestic transfer, I usually manage to get SIN-MEL direct. Does the baggage go all the way to MEL from check-in or do I have to collect baggage at ADL and check-in as normal for a VA domestic flight?

Thanks heaps!

EDIT: Found the answer on VA's Connecting Flights page:
All arriving passengers into Australia will need to collect your baggage at your international arrival port and clear Customs and Quarantine. Once cleared, please proceed to the international arrivals hall and follow the marked signs to the domestic terminal for your domestic flight.

As a data point we arrived at check in counter 4hrs before flight and were first in queue. Counter opened at exactly 210 minutes before flight and I was sitting in SQ lounge 15 minutes later

I don't find either version good for sleeping. The long haul seat is better all round though.
So the problem for me is that we had F saver awards SIN-FRA next March. Couldn't get onto any alternative F flights to FRA and now on the day no F seats left. I did find 1 saver and 1 Advantage to CDG pop up 2 weeks ago so asked if I could have our original F awards swapped to CDG. looked initially that they would OK it but today got back saying I would have to be charged the advantage rate now so an extra 100,500 points each. No way Jose So now will cancel and go with paid Emirates J on the same day to FRA.

This is probably the wrong place for this and doesn't have much point but...

Trying to price out SYD-NRT in paid first is a pain in the cough. Google flights only shows mixed class, same as the SQ website but I can pull up the fare if I use multi-segment and feed each leg exactly...then it also prices out on SQ after following the link.

Why are they making this so hard?
