Well I'm impressed that I had zero wait time to get through (says the girl scarred from hours in QANTAS phone queues a year ago), but not at all impressed that I can't swap from an Advantage ticket to a saver ticket—even on a different flight—without forfeiting the difference in points. He said it's down selling and that SQ forbids this.

Disappointing :( How about canceling the Advantage booking for $US75 and making new Saver booking?

Btw a year ago you would have waited hours for SQ as well, it was horrendous. Thankfully long wait times are history for both QF and SQ.

Tried that - he said it'd be a 6 week wait for return of points . Doubt the seat will still be there by then.... (At least QF return points within 24 hours.)

I also wanted to change because I'm flying in on a BA flight 6.5hrs earlier so I'd prefer to have an additional 24 hours up my sleeve in case of delays. So I'm tempted to forgo the points difference for peace of mind, but out of principle don't want to!

I would try HUACA! Don't ask to swap tickets, but ask can you cancel and use those points to rebook another ticket straight away with the refunded points, without telling them it's the exact same flight. If they agree that can be done then you mention that it's the same flight.

I can't remember how long points take to refund, but from memory, it's not 6 weeks.

From my experience KF miles are refunded very quickly and taxes within few days, most definitely not 6 weeks. The agent you got is inexperienced which is common issue with SQ and QF for that matter (think Joburg agents). As dajop said, HUACA.

@dajop and @boomy I could kiss you both! Thank you! It worked.

I called back and asked to cancel - he suggested just changing and when he realised that I'd forfeit the points in doing so he said, well you can cancel online for immediate refund of points. He explained that if he cancelled the flight that it usually takes up to a week but to cover themselves it can take up to 6 weeks because it goes to another department etc etc.

In the process of cancelling online this message was written: "Upon refund confirmation, your KrisFlyer miles will be refunded immediately. Refunds to your credit/debit card will take up to 10 working days."

So I went ahead and cancelled, forfeited my expired 5.2K miles (oh well, still better than chucking 22.5K down the drain because of their underselling policy) and now I'm booked on the flight the following day, in the same seat, without the stress of my BA flight arriving late.

Now to book a hotel....any recommendations?

Have read those sentiments previously - can you elaborate? I'll expand in my current TR but I loved the A380 R and didn't much appreciate the F on the B777 (but coming from a much lower base of experience ... :) )
Rooey IMHO new R are just hideous - the greatest waste of real estate ever on a plane - so many flaws in the layout and operation of seat and whole suite in general.

Touted as the best F product in the air? FFS when reclining in the seat watching TV Crew have to go fetch an after thought foot stool to support your feet - give me a f’ing break.

I am a one finger typist so not going to attempt to list all shortcomings here now - I’ll tell you in person at OT next visit. The day SQ decided to do away with the perfectly serviceable and great to travel in old R with 12 Suites and replace with 6 hideous layout was the day my contempt for new R began - and it has not abated - but as always YMMV 👍

Mrscove actually loved 1A and I was in 2A in the 6 seater Version of SQ Suites.
Our next flight is on their 777 to London.

Don't hold back. I guess you'll forego R on your next flight and move back to J to make room for the rest of us. I love everyone's opinion - good and bad.

Interesting experience on SQ218 PE today, my first SQ flight since 2019 and noticed some odd cost cuts. No more bottle of water at the seat, have to ask the FA or head to the galley for a tiny cup. And no more Haagen-Dazs or Ben & Jerry’s for dessert either, on tonight’s flight we were served Paddle Pops! Flight still enjoyable overall though I cannot understand how SQ wins awards for its PE over other airlines, VS, AA and CX all make the experience feel a little more special whereas on SQ it‘s effectively economy with a bigger seat.

Paddle Pops?! How juvenile!

In answer to Rooey in his EU TR …………

100% right on R or F o/n is a waste - strange I say that considering in past years I did 218 50+ times in R or F - but we all grow up get old.

In all sincerity I have never seen J pax permitted to use F WC on any flt on 777 - never.
I never have prob sleeping any flt R, F or J as I always take sleeping tablet - crisis averted.

Doors on Suites or F seats kinda annoy me - I hate being shut into a cocoon - I am biggest sticky beak of all time so live to see everything going on in entire cabin if I can - so never shut doors unless sleeping and if they weren’t there I would be happy little vegemite.

And I never had brekky on any AU-SG-AU flt - ate pre flt in MEL SKL pre dep or in TPR on arr - just slept - total waste of R or F exp - but it was what it was.

As I posted above my contempt of new R began with decision to 1/2 the number of available suites - combined with 777 1/2ing F seats from 8 to 4 immediately reduced R and F capacity by 1/2.

Go back and check some of my posts at that time in this thread - blind Freddy could see R & F Saver rdpt availability going forward was going to be nigh on impossible - as we can now all see.

I can easily cultivate sufficient pts to cover whatever R & F Adv flts I require annually but it ain’t all about me - maybe it’s coming from a large family where we had to share everything or that I am just a closet socialist - but 6 R or 4 F means lots of my friends can no longer participate - and in most cases too many pts reqd to take family members with me (the Ette excluded of course)

Again I reiterate old R was perfectly fine, acceptable and functional - what a total waste refurb was IMHO. If travelling as a couple 2C/D or 3C/D combos in old R were perfect - now 1/2A and 1/2F combos in new R you are seated 2.5mtrs apart or more - we are way past the lovey dovey need to be in each others back pocket stage but seriously if travelling together this distancing is ridiculous as zero chance of any interaction.

I have flown new R many times so novelty well and truly worn off - would I book and fly new R going forward? Yes of course if it is on routes and timing I want but I am more than happy with 777 so I would not actively seek out new R

What's yer poison? I take a temazepam and melatonin but don't necessarily do the trick - certainly not for an extended period.

Besides the cutting down of the number of R places in the new config, what were the other issues with it you alluded to before?

Temazepam give me terrible hallucinations - I take Imovane (Zopiclone) - 1/2 tab can do trick - full tab gives me 7 or 8hrs+ every time.

As for other discussion R that will occur OT over a red 👍

When I make rdpt booking on iPad I can never select seats - I need go login on PC and then select - anybody else exp this?

FWIW we copped sub 380 for 777 May 16 the 1st day 380 has returned to MEL in Yonks and NFI how long it will be on this route but just been notified again sub 380 for 777 on Nov 20 this year. Checking SQ web site last flt 380 ex MEL on 228 is Nov 21, 2023 - Nov 22 350 returns to 228

Msg rcvd saying original seats 1C on 777 / the Ette 1D changed to me 1A and the Ette 1F on 380 - that don’t work so again I try to change seat to 2F on iPad but cannot select - login on PC and voila I’m can change - PITA

Enjoying these insights/thoughts Cruiser.

I was lucky enough to fly Old R on a380 and F 777 for the first time just pre-pandemic and loved it. I'm able to repeat this journey due to some expiring miles in August, this time on the new a380 R out of MEL. I think the novelty factor for a first time R flyer would outweigh the cons, but I couldn't agree more re: the unfortunate significant reduction in sheer number of F and R redemption numbers with these new layouts.

Also am I right in thinking 2F would be a better choice than 1F as a solo flyer? Are you essentially flying backwards watching the TV in row 1?! I would find that odd!
