Dude in 20F just arose from his seat and tried to go to WC with headphones still on - I did mention to him that we have all done it - it’s called alcohol - his response was ‘Nah I don’t drink on planes’ - weirdo huh?

Not that weird. As you say, we have all done it. But essentially you were calling him drunk, which if he is a non-drinker is actually quite rude.

sorry to hijack with 2 really dumb questions, I should know this but i would like conf please

am looking at CDG to Melb one way in F or J In mid feb 2024,
I have 150k miles expiring in 24 hours, which i intend to use

17 Feb, Advantage 282,000 available, no saver
15 Feb, Saver 183,000 WAITLIST, Advantage 282,000 WAITLIST

If i book the advantage for 282k on 17/02, and also the 183k waitilist on the 15 Feb
if the wait list clears later and I cancel the advantage on 17/02, then ill lose the 282k because its expired right?

so the best in my situation would be just to bite the bullet and book the avail Advantage and not worry about wait list?

With that time bomb ticking on that stash of miles, the best option would be to book the instantly confirmable option that is the Advantage option.
Any other booking and you'll be in for a world of hurt when the waitlist doesn't go through and all the bad stuff that comes along with that.
Just go for it, is what I'd strongly suggest. YOLO!

I believe when you are waitlisted, they refund your miles and deduct miles for the new flight - but not 100% sure. In that situation you would lose your expired miles before they can be used on the waitlist flight. But you could still waitlist and ask them in the event that it clears (my experience is that the waitlist won't clear anyway which would save you the problem anyway).

On edit - if you are going for an advantage, you might as well do a stopover just because you can :)

thanks guys, call me cynical, but i kind of dont get how people can work their waitlisted flights on different days for holidays, eg you cant book hotels in case the earlier flights are approved,

but thanks, i will book the Availalble one right now, and i wont bother with the wait listed one, as the miles associatd with that will expire the following months

Say you have an organised tour or plans for specific dates while you are away. You might be flexible with a week before or after those fixed dates for the journey so you could change flights within that one week margin. Then you would just book hotels at the last minute. Or maybe you would be staying with family and the dates don't really matter that much. Or you could work in a side trip if your waitlisted flights give you that margin.

It's not for everybody, especially those travelling with families or those who always want to take the shortest, most direct flight...

2nd Q: I assume that star alliance and other partner airlines, generally are not avaialbe and miles/fees assocated are similar?

Star Alliance availability is often quite good on non-Australian routes, but unfortunately can no longer be combined with SQ award flights unless those SQ flights have been released to Star Alliance partners.

appreciate your help, got my flight booked, now got a bunch of them expiring in a few months, gives me some breathing space:)

Arrival into MEL at 20:00 last night was just a nightmare.

217 was 47mins early but due to congestion was put on 20min delay - we did dock at 20:04 which was still 31mins early - all good until you get to arrival hall to collect baggage. I have NEVER seen so many people arr at same time ever - no idea how many flts but queues to exit were snaking 500mtrs or more - it was just a zoo.

No 'Priority' passes give to J pax on 217 but I wasn't standing on line for 1/2 to 1hr so fronted up to 'Priority Line' entry p[oint and showed J BP and told Security 'SQ ran out of stock of passes and told J pax just show your BP' - this worked a treat and she lifted barrier and I instantly became No. 3 at exit point - what a relief.

Moral to story just try it if you get stuck in similar scenario
