SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Asking for something exceptional to happen to your luggage is asking for trouble IMO. I would be inclined to use left luggage - it is not cheap but it means you have less chance of your bag going astray.

Not worried about luggage being lost/delayed. Happened to me plenty over the years due to complicated multi-city/airline itineraries. Eventually they find it and meanwhile insurance pays for shopping so it’s not that bad really :)

boomy I doubt it but I will ask - pm your dates and flt details. I have been specifically told check in for baggage only permitted during 3 hour pre dep window.

This was asked about SYD some time back - pre Covid SYD did have all day check in - well almost - started when check in for first daily flt opened until check in for last daily flt closed - but post Covid this has gone and again can only check in during the 3 hr pre flt window - I specifically asked MEL station to call SYD and clarify this which they did.

I assume this 3 hr rule applies only to Melb check-in, and not to thru-checked luggage ? (In which case see if you can book yr domestic leg to Mel with SQ and ask them to link PNRs?)

We have an SQ booking Hba/Mel mid Sep to connect to 208. Its a 4h 30m wait but that was the best avail. Would be cranky having to sit land-side waiting to re-check our bags..

And that reminds me to ask CE - might mid Sept be a good time to enjoy whatever nice surprise is apparently in store for Mel SQ lounge users ?

Hopefully - little birdie whispered to me July 22 - ‘a little surprise might be coming’ - it may already be there - or not - I am not flying again until Sept 22 but someone hopefully will report shortly.

I think we worked out it wasn’t going to be windows, didn’t we? Maybe it is a pile of invitations to The House…

Penny for your thoughts….How long after arrival you can access The Private Room?

I’m arriving in F at 9.30pm (staying Crowne Plaza) then flying out J at 3pm the next day. I’m probably not up for a visit on arrival night, but I feel that it’s too cheeky to expect to visit the next day.

So I didn’t visit TPR on arrival because of bag issues. However, I have just braved up and presented last nights Suites boarding pass along with this afternoon’s J boarding pass. To my excitement, I was allowed in without any issues.

Technically same day arrival - but in days gone by I have had access on day of arrival and asked if ok if I return breakfast next morn prior to dep on another carrier and this was permitted. Granted staff did know me - but go ask -worst case scenario will be ‘Sorry we can’t permit that’

So I hadn’t already used arrival access, and a staff member explained to a new staff member that I was allowed in because it was within 24hrs of my arrival. I hope that is of help to others.

Eep!!!

Will be good for me in about a year's time. Arrive one day MEL-SIN in F - leave the next afternoon SIN-BWN in J. I just upgraded the MEL-SIN to F yesterday when I discovered (upthread) that the 350 had been replaced with a 777. I did wonder whether it was worth it since on a daytime flight, the J seat is just as capacious as an F seat, the food is basically the same and I don't drink. If I get access to TPR ahead of my flight to Brunei then that definitely tips the upgrade into being worth it.

Given Perth has just been refurbished, I wouldn't be surprised if Melbourne was on the near horizon.

Rcvd emails today from SQ advising I have copped 3 X R / F downgrades to J June and July 2024 - 2 I can easily accommodate and rectify but No 3 has Call Ctr Agent clamouring to solve. Never a dull moment in SQ land huh?

Oh dear - what is the route?

Does seem like there’s been several schedule changes in the last 24 hours. Melbourne has had a 777 with first moved from 6pm-ish to 9am-ish. And Sydney seems to have picked up another flight with some sort of F/R.

Are you sure of that?

That would be my assumption. Try to book F Saver to/from SYD, it’s all waitlist. Even J is hard to find. MEL on the other hand has better availability. Also on my last two MEL flights F was just 50% full, not saying it’s the norm but I was surprised they couldn’t fill the cabin with only 4 seats.

The reason is that only one flight a day from each of MEL and SYD with saver F fares. The MEL one now is SQ238. The SYD one is now SQ242. The other flights will not have saver redemptions at all, at all.

Still hard to fathom - MEL can only fill 4 F seats daily where SYD can fill 20? Seriously?

As for actual loadings there is an existing thread where actual loadings as opposed to peoples thoughts can be listed - it only takes 2 mins and every Cabin Manager whether it's R / F / J / S / Y will give you actual numbers for that flight - IMHO the best indicator that can be posted.

I am not going to waste time trying to tally available seats in all cabins and compare MEL to SYD - and I wish I could get access to actual loadings from SQ for both ports but alas not aware of an avenue
