SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Now I’m even more excited for my coming flights in Jan :)

Enjoyed this very much earlier in the week. I hadn't had it since SQ last served it onboard in 2019, but this time round it seems to have evolved into an even better champagne - bold and almost creamy. Very nice treat.

Faith restored in the Lobster Thermidor out of SIN.
Haven't eaten it since the old days when it was accompanied by rice but today it was excellent, served with spuds, carrot and sprouts.
Sorry I forgot to take a photo.

Remember the good ol’ days? We’d Feb 4, 2015 heading to PVG ex SIN - only pax in R hence the Crew welcome:

Then 5 days later Mon Feb 9, 2015 dep PEK-SIN I was the only pax in F:

My oh my how things have changed

Sun Mar 26, 2016 - remember old F when they had those blocks of foam rubber elbow supports coz seat was too wide to get support both elbows / forearms?

I think my favourite flt of all time - Monday June 18, 2018 - SIN-FRA on 380 Ivy was on board Auditing flt - Jaimie was IFM and of course Hazel - it was just magical - still in touch with all 3 to this day👍👍👍

With you on all counts there.. thought the old R was a lot cosier, more comfortable and a good deal less pretentious than the new, wch is why I will opt for 777 F these days, all else equal. Anyway here’s to more F, R, J and SQ generally in the year to come..

Anyone ever had any success adding a sector to an existing SQ award booking? I’ve got a SYD-JNB booked and have decided to go straight to Harare. SAA do it, I’d be booking an unprotected connection but it would be helpful if I can just add the sector (should be roughly the same points).

I believe once the booking has been ticketed it’s only possible to make changes as long as departure point and final destination remain the same but you can always call and try.

Two pronged question here so apologies for firing them off back to back:

Looking to book awards from SYD to NYC in J for the other NoNames and seems like our preferred SQ26 may only have waitlists available. Would want to book on the non-stop to JFK/EWR if available to at least have something locked in. What is the procedure here? Do I waitlist the SIN-FRA-JFK and then book the confirmed award SYD-SIN-JFK/EWR? Then if the waitlist clears just ring and make the change to the existing confirmed booking?

I will also be on the SYD-SIN flight and was thinking of booking F but giving the seat up to Mrs NoName. Assuming this won’t be a problem to change prior to or immediately after take off?

More 777's or the A380 back to MEL would be a great start!

You need to have the points available in your KrisFlyer account to waitlist - so make all your waitlists before making a confirmed booking which will deduct the points. Once the waitlist clears, I just cancel my backup booking online as the points return is instant. If you call to change things around, get’s messy I find and they don’t guarantee instant points return.

Second question, who knows - will depend on the crew on the day.

I have had success adding a business advantage award to an existing first advantage award and changing origin. However, I’ve also been denied adding a business saver award to an existing first saver award - the reason being the business leg was only available to ”new” bookings.

So my advice is, give it a go, but don’t count on it.

Thanks for that. No issues having the miles available. With regards to cancelling the backup booking, wouldn’t that also cancel the BNE-SIN sector as well since it would be on the same itinerary? Would not want this to happen. Apologies if I wasn’t clear that it will be an advantage award all on the one booking.

Yeah it was all too hard. Initially seemed to think it might be achievable, but in the end no dice.

There’s a 5 hour connection so I might just risk it. Rarely is the inbound from SIN late. Hopefully I can get them to check the bags onwards to HRE on SA and avoid going through SA immigration.
