Whilst this thread seems mainly to be about premium cabins, just a quick review of flight we took back in April in economy, alas. We were using expiring NZ points, and whilst the sweet spot on the NZ table is Asia to Europe, unfortunately we couldn't get anything there in business or first, so settled with SQ economy day flight over and LX business coming back.
We got seats on SQ 308, departs SIN around 9am and arrives into LHR at around 3:30pm. This is probably the best timed economy flight of its length, as you don't have to set the alarm too early to catch the flight, and for those originating in SIN, it basically takes place entirely during normal waking hours, arriving into LHR at 10:30pm SIN time. The advantage of this is evident in the energy levels of the crew, the generally good mood of passengers (less reclining, less issues with reading lights etc) and for those who aren't in aisle seats - hardly anyone sleeping, so no need to worry about waking aisle passenger to get out of your seat.
Before flight, a quick visit to the F lounge, thanks to my partners newly minted Solitaire status. Had some freshly made waffles, berries and icecream in the dining area before proceeding to more comfortable chairs, with some bubbles overlooking the runway.
As for the flight itself, unfortunately no economy upper deck, so we were in aisle seats towards the front of the cabin but it was very full, I only think I saw 2 empty seats. Nevertheless seats were comfortable enough, and we had the usual pre-flight hot towel service, and again as usual for SQ, trays of drinks were served within 10 mins of seat belt sign going off after takeoff. Meals were good, in fact the pork picatta (crumbed) that was served for lunch, had a reasonably crisp crumb and if plated up could have passed as a business class meal on many airlines. Throughout the flight the crew were almost always present, drink runs (cups of water, OJ, apple juice, beer and wine) every 30 mins or so, and they were constantly (and politely, i.e. no evident attitude) responding to requests for drinks such as the several Singapore Slings I enjoyed during the flight. Snacks available in the galley included bread rolls with several fillings, chips, chocolates, fresh fruit and the obligatory packs of dried cranberries. Overall the time went quickly, caught up on some TV, and watched some OK movies. So if stuck in Y, I'd definitely recommend this flight, but I guess originating in Australia you need to do overnight to SIN or overnight in SIN.
