Thanks Cruiser....enjoy Dublin....we loved it.
I guess it is a personal thingy where you get offered either Dom or Krug.
The quality of the PJs is up a notch and the amenity kit also impressed Mrscove. We are in the A seats this week and I do not plan to spill any further Krug.

Completed my first experience flying SQ in any capacity. Had 4 legs (all J class) MEL-SNG-HCM and TPE-SNG-MEL. 2 longer flights on the 777 and 2 shorter ones on the 330. All flights were of a very high standard from a service and food perspective but the last flight was a much better version, suggesting the first 3 were older models?

Tried Book the Cook on my final SNG-MEL leg to try out the lobster and after having my choice confirmed, was surprised at service to be presented with Chicken Tikka Marsala. I politely pointed out the incorrect meal and things got worse when 5 minutes later, she re-appeared to apologise that my lobster had been served in error to another passenger - aaarrrrggghhhhh!!!!!

What followed was some of the most impressive customer service I have ever encountered. Firstly she (repeatedly) apologised with genuine regret and I ended up with the same rejected Chicken Marsala (which was delicious) as a substitute. She then re-appeared about 2 hours later with an extra lobster roll from F class that wasn't going to be eaten to help to make up for the error. I then still got my pre-selected snack meal another 2 hours after that and fairly rolled out of the plane!!!

I always say that it's the way that issues are handled that says more about true customer service and the handling of that small mistake has turned me into a very strong advocate for the airline and it's service. I can't wait to try F class next time!

Stories like this are great to hear but also they remind me how much SQ has spoiled myself (and I bet a few others here).

I never use book the cook and pick from the menu and understandably, there are some meals on board that I do not enjoy. However somehow the crew always takes notice and proactively offers to switch to a different one on the menu (this is in J) which is always nice.

Food wise though, I still prefer CX's way of serving it in J. Instead of taking orders with a pen, they just bring out all of the choices on the cart so that you can actually have a close look at the dishes before making the selection. I think this works a tad better than picking something off a menu and hoping it is what you have imagined.

Well after a gap of five years, am back on some SQ flights later this month, will be interesting to see what's the same, what's different and be able to again compare the SIN J service to that of QF.

Depends how quickly you need the points I guess, but I usually wash my Amex MR points through SPG, then to SQ to pick up the 5000 point bonus for every 20000 SPG points transferred.

This does seem to take forever though.

Must be something with their system lately. I have transferred points within the past month and received them in SQ within 72 hours (I suspect even shorter but I didn't write down actual transfer times)

Whilst this thread seems mainly to be about premium cabins, just a quick review of flight we took back in April in economy, alas. We were using expiring NZ points, and whilst the sweet spot on the NZ table is Asia to Europe, unfortunately we couldn't get anything there in business or first, so settled with SQ economy day flight over and LX business coming back.

We got seats on SQ 308, departs SIN around 9am and arrives into LHR at around 3:30pm. This is probably the best timed economy flight of its length, as you don't have to set the alarm too early to catch the flight, and for those originating in SIN, it basically takes place entirely during normal waking hours, arriving into LHR at 10:30pm SIN time. The advantage of this is evident in the energy levels of the crew, the generally good mood of passengers (less reclining, less issues with reading lights etc) and for those who aren't in aisle seats - hardly anyone sleeping, so no need to worry about waking aisle passenger to get out of your seat.

Before flight, a quick visit to the F lounge, thanks to my partners newly minted Solitaire status. Had some freshly made waffles, berries and icecream in the dining area before proceeding to more comfortable chairs, with some bubbles overlooking the runway.

As for the flight itself, unfortunately no economy upper deck, so we were in aisle seats towards the front of the cabin but it was very full, I only think I saw 2 empty seats. Nevertheless seats were comfortable enough, and we had the usual pre-flight hot towel service, and again as usual for SQ, trays of drinks were served within 10 mins of seat belt sign going off after takeoff. Meals were good, in fact the pork picatta (crumbed) that was served for lunch, had a reasonably crisp crumb and if plated up could have passed as a business class meal on many airlines. Throughout the flight the crew were almost always present, drink runs (cups of water, OJ, apple juice, beer and wine) every 30 mins or so, and they were constantly (and politely, i.e. no evident attitude) responding to requests for drinks such as the several Singapore Slings I enjoyed during the flight. Snacks available in the galley included bread rolls with several fillings, chips, chocolates, fresh fruit and the obligatory packs of dried cranberries. Overall the time went quickly, caught up on some TV, and watched some OK movies. So if stuck in Y, I'd definitely recommend this flight, but I guess originating in Australia you need to do overnight to SIN or overnight in SIN.

Sorry don't know much about SPG but alittle research seems to suggest
40000 MR = 20000 SPG star points
But star point to Kris miles is 1:1
Even with with a 5000 point bonus surely it is better to get 40000 Kris for your 40000 MR (direct transfer) rather than 20000 Kris plus 5000 Kris bonus (via SPG)

Or am I missing something crucial?

Ah. Yes it depends on what Amex we are talking about. Mine is a DJ Amex where the transfer rate to SPG is the same as to SQ. I assumed others were the same but now I seem to recollect this is not the case.

Sorry I think I have missed something again. I thought all MR points were the same except for the ones you send to Qantas (oh yes they are not MR points they are MR Ascent points). Therefore you can pool MR points from different cards into one account. But your DJ amex gets you 1:1 SQ and 1:1 SPG? Can you please clarify as this maybe a card I need to add to the portfolio

Thanks Danger UXB

No the DJ Amex is a bit different in several ways. The transfer rate to both SPG and SQ is 1:0.5, but if you restrict your spending on it to supermarkets and service stations, where the earn rate is 3MRs/$, it works out to 1.5 SPG or SQ points per dollar. Or about 1.87 SQ points/$ if you wash them through SPG first and then transfer to SQ in 20000 point aliquots.

Earn rates elsewhere are pretty rubbish but the card does have a few other wrinkles making it a useful niche card in the portfolio.

Thanks for the clarification. I think I'll stick with my current portfolio

Round Trip Saver redemptions can have 1 FREE stopover

(I have made a couple of small amendments to original post)

been having a think about this while dreaming up some future redemptions, couple of questions:

1. can you have 2 stopovers on way to destination? e.g. if i were to say go SYD-(SIN)-(FRA)-JFK, could i stopover in both SIN and FRA?
2. can you have stopovers at different midpoints (e.g. stop at FRA on the way over, stop at SIN on the way back)

Not on a saver ticket unless without paying more. If you do pay an extra $100, you should be able to add that second stopover in.

Rule in that case is you loose the 15% online booking discount but YMMV on this.
