SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

This is how you gain and then maintain anytime access to SQ F Lounge in MEL - 3 chocky blocks per visit over 3 or 4 visits will usually do the job - 1 for the SQ rep behind front counter and 2 for the Lounge ladies. These above were priced down from $3.90 to $1.80ea at Coles yesterday - 18 blocks and she only scanned 17 - that next 6 dep accounted for.

Ooo I do like this kind of bribery, would be nice if PER had a decent lounge for this type of thing.

just landed at Changi, the dollars are now valid until Mar15! Wow wee!

also flew in on 9V-SSB A330 just delivered from France about a month ago, was nice to be on something new. Wasn't the best overall everything was so stiff, I just about broke my thumb opening the tray table and trying to recline. I would take it over the old beasty 777 with the purple n blue interior and 7" screens they will probably use on the SGN trip :( At least they sometimes have a newer 330 on it a few times a week.

And one more while I'm here...i just did IAH - DME - SIN on Thursday, that aircraft needs a bit of attention also, newer 777 fit out but the Y was ravaged! Also the catering loaded on at DME wasn't really the best, but what should I expect now that the Olympics are over.

Have just come back to Brisbane after holiday trip to Europe flying J. Flight from Brisbane on SQ256 only had 7 passengers in J including wife and I but what a memorable flight with great service. Even though only 7 passengers I had another passenger across aisle from me and as taking off started talking which continued all the way to Singapore. Never turned on in flight entertainment and delightful Singapore Girl kept up the Bollinger to us!

Next flight was the following day on SQ326 to Frankfurt in J which was about 80% full. Really enjoyed the experience as previously had only flown J on the 777-200ER before the refit and 330.

Our return flights were scheduled to leave Milan on 5 June but needed to return earlier and last Thursday went on line to see if I could change and there was availability for flights we wanted. Our bookings were J Saver redemptions. Did the change on line and additional fees were only 3.10 Euro.

Milan to Singapore was on SQ367 and J cabin was around 60% full. There is a new J lounge in Milan and was impressed by it. Singapore to Brisbane was on SQ255 and again only 7 passengers in J including wife and I. Service was not as attentive as SQ256 but this was understandable given time of flight.

cruiser et al. I'm a rare SQ flyer (unfortunately) but am on a revenue LH issued 'business class' ticket to Europe later this month, with SQ business (D) component MEL-SIN-MEL.

Have gone through this thread with much envy (MUCH envy :) ) but my base level knowledge of things SQ means I missed a bunch.

* How do Changi dollars work - or more to the point, how do I get 'em?

* I'd love to upgrade to F on one of the SQ legs. I'm a member of Air Canada Aeroplan, so have a bunch of their miles, useable (in theory) on SQ. Do you know if I can upgrade one leg on SQ using miles from 1) a revenue ticket and/or 2) A revenue ticket on LH stock? Am *A gold via Aeroplan.

* I see the chokkies thing. Noted. Any other tips for a lounge and in-flight connoisseur (if I may say so myself) but infrequent SQ flyer? <I know enough to Book the Cook with the lobster on the journey out of SIN.>

Roo - I think you are screwed - Changi Transit Programme - Singapore Airlines - note Point 3 of Eligibility:

Passengers must be travelling on flights operated by Singapore Airlines or SilkAir for their entire journey both in and out of Singapore, bearing e-ticket numbers starting with 618 or 629.

As for upgrade query I have no idea - only ever on SQ F/J Saver reds - no idea on rev tix.

MEL J Lounge almost equal to MEL F Lounge very little diff - but J serves Oz bubbles and not the real stuff. One 'gifting' of chockies prolly not get you into F - I do it regularly and they know me pretty well. Onboard in J you will love it - which flt / metal?

Sod it. never mind.

TA says no - as LH don't allow mixed classes - but thought I'd ask the question.

Understand re the chokkies - never dreamed of getting F access first up - but I'm happy to lay the groundwork in anticipation of doing SQ more often!

MEL-SIN SQ238 on 23 June seat 14A (777 or so they promise! day flight)
SIN-MEL SQ227 25 July 14A again (A380 night flight)

On the A380, do they construct the bed by folding the seat down and putting a mattress across the top, like they did when I flew on one of their 747s a couple of years ago? I recall that as not being particularly comfortable (but can't recall why exactly). Width of course is no problem!

3 ladies - one SQ employee at reception - 2 staff in lounge.

They will fold down for you if you want - but easy to do so yourself - no mattress supplied - seat back which becomes bed kinda padded - lots of people do not find it comfortable due to hardness and angle you sleep on - I sleep like a baby but I do take sleeping tabs. No PJs supplied in J - I always BYO and change as soon as seated pre take-off.

They did when I flew a few weeks ago. You can also fold it down yourself, grab the blanket and drift off if you've had to many of the bubbly stuff! :D

Can I suggest that if you have time, register for and post a question on Flyertalk : Air Canada | Aeroplan - FlyerTalk Forums

You'll need your exact fare class for each sector.

You could post as a seperate thread in Open Questions on this board first, but 'we' may not have the specific experience that you seek.

If you are taking advice on upgrade from a Travel Agent that may not be the best course of action.

Travelling in SQ F is a lot (a lot :)) of fun.

I gave a box of chocolate to each desk at SKL - I hope you're proud of me Cruiser.
Oh funniest thing of all time last week. We were flying SQ228 MEL-SIN and fronted up with chockies for the Lounge Ladies - Rico the Sing rep on front desk and 2 ladies working in SKL F/J Lounge.

As I present all 3 blocks of chockie to Rico to choose hers first she volunteers WOW more chockie - we have had about 4 or 5 pax bring us chocolate this week! Seems concept is catching on. Then I discover 3 ladies working in Lounge - What gives Rico? Oh we have such full flights today need extra staff! So off O trot to chockie shop in MEL DF to get another block so all 3 ladies get one.

I had a pm during the week from a fellow AFFer re stopover in SIN if you book ow Saver rdpt. I have contacted Crystal this morn and here is definitive response:

YES - stopover in SIN can indeed be added to ow Saver rdpt but you must follow these steps:
1. Make sure your desired flts are showing available in/out of SIN prior to calling
2. You MUST call - you cannot do it online
3. Call and explain to rep what you want and ask her check availability
4. If 15% disc not offered - ASK for it. If response is cannot honour - ASK again and again
5. If still having probs ask for Manager - the 15% will be honoured if you need to push the point
Stopovers can be added to existing booking post issue of original tix - but cannot be added once journey commenced
6. Cost of added stopover is USD100/booking
7. Of course rt rdpts can have 1 stopover free - only ow required fee USD100
8. Enjoy your time in SIN - enjoy your flts with SQ - hope this helps

Hi Alby

Sorry, only just saw your post. I used to be active on FT's Air Canada board but got tired of the abuse (not aimed at me) and the people too full of themselves. I wouldn't ask AC questions here because, as you say, not many people are familiar with Aeroplan (I'm probably as good a source as any!)

My TA walks on water; asking her about an upgrade may not be the best course of action, but its bloody good!

Sounds like a shake-down to me :)

I'll be there this week so will go suitably armed.

cuse the ignorance but what's a OW saver rdpt - one way saver redemption?

that's very interesting info - as contradicts this - More about redeeming miles

then again the booking engine sometimes offers stopovers > 24 hours on a saver fare so good to know.

Is this valid for a one way Saver rdpt, or only a return ?
