SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

My first trip in suites with the +1 a few months ago now and just a brief review

The +1 has flown Economy all her life except a few Dom J trips with me, so Suites was going to be a big step up.
I have flown lots of J internationally and F on QFi A380 quite a few times, but Suites was still going to be far better.
Also thanks to Cruiser Elite and others for their advice/help etc

Flights were MEL-SIN-CDG, then LHR-SIN-MEL

Arriving at MEL I was VERY excited and we were at the airport about 3.5 hours before the flight

Check-in was a breeze with 2 lovely agents helping us and making sure we were happy with seats etc we had 3C/3D for all the flights

Down to the MEL F lounge which, I must say, was a slight disappointment mainly as it has no atmosphere and no view. Food was ok for being snack time and the champagne was good enough

Boarding the plane - WOW - Never had so much attention from the gate staff and staff on-board the plane, for the first sector it felt a bit too much, but you do get used to the pampering

Couldn't fault the seats/bed/crew on MEL-SIN and of course, I prebooked the lobster which was beyond EPIC

The SQ Private Room is now my favourite lounge, quiet, refined and great attentive staff

SIN-CDG - The crew were not quite as good on this flight, the Suites cabin was mainly being attended to by the Leading Stewardess, in Green, as the lady in Red was up in business and miss Burgundy was there too I assume as we only saw her at the start and end of the flight. I am being very picky here but it just seemed that the crew were not as welcoming/attentive as the other flights.

The return home was great, and the LHR lounge wasn't that bad at all. Lovely staff behind the bar who happily kept my glass full and kept trying to insist that I order food from the menu instead of eating at the buffet.

The best part was being offered and taking up the offer of being carted from the lounge to the gate. Having not done this before it was a memorable experience although I was very tipsy at this stage so it was a little bit of a blur.

One thing I did note and it started to annoy me after a while, is the whooshing noise that you can hear from time to time. Best I could work out is that it was the toilet above and when it was flushed, although it seemed to happen far more than the toilet would actually get used.

Overall - 10/10 and as a result of this trip I am ensuring that I maximizing my points earn with SQ, through hotel stays, car hire etc as SQ Suites is now the only way to travel

Flew F SIN-MEL on SQ217 yesterday - thought I would try the in-flight WiFi system OnAir - virtually useless - speed was unbearably slow. Signed up for the $30 plan and used it for about 10mins. Sent off email to OnAir this morning telling them how bad it was and requested refund which they agreed to within an hour - me tinks they might be getting plenty of emails from disgruntled users.

Flew F PEK-SIN on 801 dep PEK 00:10 so received TPR Invitation at PEK check-in - these are a great souvenir so ALL first time Suite riders don't be backward in asking for an invitation when you check-in - or if Std F on o/n flt also ask.

hey cruiser,

why do you specify overnight F flight? i thought access to TPR was for anyone travelling in F?
Depending on time of day / numbers in TPR sometimes day flt arrivees just cannot be accommodated within TPR - if you arriving on o/n flt you are pretty well guaranteed access due to arrival time and space availability within TPR.

Don't they give them out by default?
No not all the time - in fact last June when Cruiserette's was taking her maiden Suites ride SYD check-in had none at all - I arranged TPR staff to hand her one on arrival in SIN. Was handed one in PEK 2 weeks ago - first one I have received in like 6mths. Not sure if scarcity of supply or staff just not too diligent in handing them out - but first timers should ask if they want a nice souvenir.

MEL was handed 2 x TPR passes for SIN at check-in

LHR wasn't handed the passes, but once we were seated in the lounge, a staff member came up with a sealed envelope addressed to both of us, with 2 x TPR passes inside and an apology for not handing them to us at check-in

Anybody heading out on SQ218 Mar 27? Champers in F on offer - kinda think I will need some company pre flt - damn sure I won't be getting any during flt.

BO do you think? 1C/1D blocked - not occupied.

Mrs UXB is going to old blighty at the end of this month and many moons ago I had booked her favorite J saver seat MEL to LHR. 11K on the 777W all the way. She works out recently that there are not enough retail therapy days for her in the big smoke so asks if I can get her there a day earlier. Some quick research on the app finds an F saver a day earlier so I think "nice treat F all the way and New F SIN to LHR so long as no equipment changes" .

Cheers DangerUXB

PS when do you think I should tell her the good news? she still thinks she's going in J!

I would not tell her Danger - let her get the surprise on the day.

.

Took Mrs UXB to MEL last night. She almost got into an argument with the check in blossom when she looked at her boarding pass and 11K wasn't printed on it! A very quick double take and she realised it had "First " printed on it . Minor embarrassment for her , mission accomplished for me :D

Thanks for the advice
Cheers Danger UXB

Quizz Time: The number 1 reason why F on refitted 773 is better than new 773 is?

Boys ,Boys, Boys and Girls too. Sounds like Mrs UXB is getting to full SQ F treatment. The checkin chick passed on the information that it was all a surprise to the flight crew and they seem to have done everything possible to make it a trip to remember. She's now slumming it in TPR, with her gold invite presented to her in the MEL F lounge, enjoying breakfast ( I advised her to sleep through the breakfast on the plane and try the TPR!). Freshly pressed apple juice and poached eggs watching all the planes take off safely (she's a bit of a nervous flyer).
She thinks AFF is a wonderful place and thanks you all for the tips and advice. Hopefully she gets new F to LHR to cap off a great trip.
Now where's that tax bill gone;)

Cheers Danger UXB

Great to here Mrs UXB is enjoying herself and always better when it's a surprise. Great work!

Dep PEK on SQ807 at 16:35 yesterday - perfect timing for a beverage pre take off right? WRONG - PEK forbids airlines opening bar pre-take off.

So I settle into seat and am approached by gorgeous statuesque IFS Karen - good afternoon Mr Elite - can I get you a Champagne? Yes Karen I would love one - but no bar before take-off right? Correct Mr Elite - but i could open that bottle of duty free Krug you purchased she replies as she winks at me!

Sure thing - 2 mins later Karen appears back beside me with a chilled bottle of Krug and glass - proceeds to poor it with a smile from ear to ear - what a gorgeous person - no not just cause I got a Champers but rather that her whole demeanor and attitude was simply stunning - gotta love SQ huh?

Hmm do tell!
God I was wondering how long it would take for someone to ask - Simple Answer - BIN SPACE - refitted 777s have o/h bins - new ones do not - PITA - you expected to put all your carry on items on floor in front of your feet - PITA - crew will tell you it is easier for you to access your carry on if it on floor and not in bins - baloney - PITA.

Flew SQ 218 MEL-SIN 01:05 /05:45 on 27th. They serve bf on board - I tell them do not wake me as I will eat in TPR. As it happened we arr early TPR still closed - no biggie wait 10mins and it's open - eat brekky and wash down with obligatory Dom - then fly out on SQ828 SIN-PVG 07:30/12:45.

Problem with this flt is .................they serve breakfast and not lunch - PITA. Way around it is BTC - I ordered hamburger meal - less than perfect choice but most filling/substantive I could find given post arr into PVG I have 1.5hr subway ride to SHA train station to get CRH train SHA-NKG - again about 1.5hrs - finding / stopping to eat in transit not easy - arr IC in NKG about 6pm.

But now let me get to story - on 828 whilst it was 8am or so I did indulge in a few Krugs - have seen all movies on IFE so after a coupla hrs I got a bit bored and wandered down back - found 3 stunning FA's in the J galley so stopped for a chat - spent next 2 hrs or so talking to all girls working in J and Y cabins - was just a sensational time shooting the breeze with the ladies. During convo girls insisted next time I fly DO NOT waste my time in F - I should "Up-downgrade to Business" - their words not mine - absolutely cracked me up.

So I return to F cabin and killing time when the 3 darlings appeared from behind the curtain to hand me postcard below - first the front:

And rear:

Now where are those that label SQ crew robotic and mechanical? Just another indication why SQ head and shoulders in front of all others - IMHO of course.

Glad to see the Krug rapid consumption system is working just fine :D
