SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Whether it's expensive or not really depends on your points accumulation.

For someone only able to churn a few credit cards a year (or even none at all) and with minimal card spend, 288K points is a lot for a single flight, even if in First.

For someone who accumulates that number of points in a week, it's a drop in the ocean.

I would view it as expensive from the perspective that KF points are harder to accumulate than, say, QF and that 318,000 QF points will get you a J class OWA with up to 16 flights, whereas the Advantage F gives you just two flights in F. The fact that some people buy them - even in quantity - doesn’t hide the fact that they are expensive.

out of curiously, how many points does it set you back?
It was 282000 as Mr H said, but it is only another 20k to go SYD-SIN-FRA-JFK with a free stopover in FRA. I'm regretting not routing through FRA now but oh well maybe try next time.

As for earning that many points, there are a few credit cards being advertised on this website that can be transferred to KF. There may or may not be ways to game the system with these or other CC issuers. Even at disadvantageous rates, the sheer volume of some of these points can make a reasonable dent towards 280k.

Many US credit cards also transfer 1:1, but then again the question of 318k QF rtw vs 302,000 in SQ F (SYD SIN FRA JFK) is worth it or not. I chose my redemption because it was in the peakest of peak seasons travel and well splurging once in a while is fine.

Thanks for the input here, I've got a F SQ flight from CGK-SIN-SYD which set me back 155k (advantage) and am always willing to work out if there are better ways of earning KF miles

You can phone to see whether you can change your booking - from memory it’s about a $75 fee.
