SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Whether it's expensive or not really depends on your points accumulation.

For someone only able to churn a few credit cards a year (or even none at all) and with minimal card spend, 288K points is a lot for a single flight, even if in First.

For someone who accumulates that number of points in a week, it's a drop in the ocean.

What a ridiculous post - self proclaimed expert on other AFFers actions?

FTR I currently have 7 R & F O/W Adv rdpts MEL/SYD-EU - EU MEL/SYD booked throughout 2025 <redacted>
If I may ask, do you collect KF directly, transfer from VV or transfer from Amex?

I would view it as expensive from the perspective that KF points are harder to accumulate than, say, QF and that 318,000 QF points will get you a J class OWA with up to 16 flights, whereas the Advantage F gives you just two flights in F. The fact that some people buy them - even in quantity - doesn’t hide the fact that they are expensive.

out of curiously, how many points does it set you back?
It was 282000 as Mr H said, but it is only another 20k to go SYD-SIN-FRA-JFK with a free stopover in FRA. I'm regretting not routing through FRA now but oh well maybe try next time.

As for earning that many points, there are a few credit cards being advertised on this website that can be transferred to KF. There may or may not be ways to game the system with these or other CC issuers. Even at disadvantageous rates, the sheer volume of some of these points can make a reasonable dent towards 280k.

Many US credit cards also transfer 1:1, but then again the question of 318k QF rtw vs 302,000 in SQ F (SYD SIN FRA JFK) is worth it or not. I chose my redemption because it was in the peakest of peak seasons travel and well splurging once in a while is fine.

Thanks for the input here, I've got a F SQ flight from CGK-SIN-SYD which set me back 155k (advantage) and am always willing to work out if there are better ways of earning KF miles

You can phone to see whether you can change your booking - from memory it’s about a $75 fee.

I was able to book a saver J seat SIN-MEL in November. There seemed to be good availability on most flights around the date I needed. Only advantage in F though. :(

Hi Brains Trust,
It's been a while since I've travelled to Singapore and have a trip later in the year. I can't quite remember the arrivals layout and procedures in Singapore.

Me, Mrs kevrosmith & Mstr kevrosmith are flying SYD-SIN in F Suites, and Nanny kevrosmith (my mum) is flying in 2 hours earlier BNE-SIN in J. What options are available for Mum while she waits for our flight to arrive?
  • Can she remain airside, knowing her bag will probably go around the carousel and get diverted to unclaimed luggage?
  • Would she have arrivals access to the Business lounge?
  • Is she best to go through to collect luggage and go through immigration and wait landside? If so, is there a pleasant waiting area people could suggest?
  • Do flights from BNE and SYD usually arrive at the same terminal?
Any other suggestions on how best to coordinate our arrival and make it so that Mum doesn't have to sit in an uncomfortable place while she waits for us to land?
To escape the humidity, easy to wait airside and meet you as you arrive.

Bags will go around for a while and then be taken to unclaimed luggage.

The only warning with this is that you must then enter Singapore through the terminal in which you arrived. For example, if she lands at T2, but meets you at T3 (or any combination of that), she must return to enter Singapore at T2, because that’s where her unclaimed luggage will be.

If she was to join you and enter at T3 it can be difficult to get back into T2 to get the luggage.

Or, just hop into a taxi and go straight to the hotel! (leaving you some time to visit TPR on arrival :))

Thanks. Very useful info there and good suggestions.
