SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I was totally unaware until IFS advised me of it on PVG-SIN flt 2 weeks back - that is why I inquired to SQ Feedback. She also told me at time - after consulting her handbook - that indeed SQ had only 2 new 77W with New Gen F so apparently 3rd one into op since then.Mr Ng did call me a week back just to clarify a couple of points and did say it would take another week to respond in full - it is what I expect from SQ.

I think the *new* does a lot of the SIN-LHR route from memory. Would be nice to see on the MEL-SIN run however...

SQ really show how it's done with customer service. Many other travel companies could take note.

Is it possible to change an SQ saver redemption to include *A partners?
eg. SYD-SIN-FRA (destination), FRA-SIN-SYD all on SQ R.
Then if LH F were to open up on FRA-SIN, to change that leg only.

Would it be $20 change fee + taxes? (and no mileage difference?)
How about doing it once travel has commenced?

Had to defer Mrscove's trip by a few days. SQ handled it so well we were both very impressed. She is still in Suites a few days later. Brilliantly done SQ!

I think the No refers to not being able to do this as a change. SQ treat them a different types of redemptions. So a Saver redemption could be changed to another all SQ saver and all online.

They would look at the booking involving LH as a *A redemption which has a different set of redemption rules and miles table.

So the $20 change fee would only apply if within the SQ only changes.

Once travel commences there are no changes permitted to either type of redemption.

So, strategy......hopefully you might have enough miles for this:

a) Book your travel on the Saver as two one way redemptions. This ensures you are travelling.

b) Monitor availability of the LH sector that you are seeking. If it comes through do it as a one way *A redemption and cancel the corresponding one way Saver. You might need to explain to the agent that the availability SYD-SIN will come form your cancellation of that saver booking. You may need the surplus miles at this step as there will be a delay with the mile coming back from the cancelled saver award.

My rhetorical question is why would you want to LH and miss out on SQ R, TPR, service, Dom, etc etc etc and pay more mile.

Thanks - that is very helpful.

Yeah the surplus miles may be an issue for those who aren't points rich.

As to booking LH for one leg, I'd say it would be just to try another F product, including the FRA FCT and Porsche 911 rental for 99.10 Euros.
I'd still get SQ TPR for SIN-SYD and the cost is the same - 132,500 miles for a one way Europe -> SWP (Zone 9 -> 12).

112625 if you book it online SYD to FRA on SQ F/R class

Q for the gurus..

how does a mixed redemption booking get priced? e.g. SYD-SIN-MLE in F/R? (i.e. how do they calculate the rate for the SIN-MLE leg where it's business only)

SYD-SIN in R is 127,500, 93,500 in J, but SIN-MLE is 59,500 on it's own. (all returns)

you could just do SYD-MLE in J for 123,250 but then you miss out on suites, TPR etc.

Mixed class rdpts are priced at highest class rates - lounge access etc at highest class level - cannot be booked online you must call KF call ctr to book. It's easy to do - I have done it sveral times.

Yep but what's the highest class rate for syd-mle? How do you calculate? I know it's easy where there's published routes but no availability but how bout where it doesn't exist.

DISASTER - DISASTER - DISASTER

My best contact in KF call ctr Crystal has resigned from SIA effective immediately. I think even as recent as 2 days ago I directed another AFFer directly to her for assistance - in a msg via WhatsApp she asked me to apologise to rmb for not being able to complete your requests.

Sad day for me and sad day for the dozens of others she has assisted. I will try to dig into SQ/KF and attempt to cultivate another contact but it might take some time. Gems like Crystal do not grow on trees.

Sad day indeed for all of us who have required SQ knowledge in the past ! Your posts using her knowledge have been invaluable for me and others. Hopefully Crystal Mk2 is not too far away

Damn! I never called her because I just ended up deciding to go earlier in the month.. was going to call her to ask some questions though so won't bother with that now :) Do you know why she resigned/where she is going?
