Looking for some advice on booking SQ to Europe in May 2025. Being based in Adelaide theres no First class from Adl to Sin, so if i try to book online First only mixed class seems available, and the price is not much less than full First from either Syd or Mel.
But if i try to book a connecting flight (eg Adl-Syd) as part of the same ticket, the online booking takes the class of the flight from the first sector, and limits it to business only.
Is there a way to get a connecting flight in the same PNR? Or other suggestions?

You need to book separate domestic flight from ADL to MEL/SYD if you want to fly F. I’m in a similar situation living in BNE

Recently booked Hobart to LHR for late May 25 in F and at first had the same issue of J Dom legs determining the subsequent Intl class. Ended up phoning SQ and booking that way. Suggest you do the same? Interesting that we are going out with VA but return Dom leg Syd/Hob is with QF. You might find it difficult getting adjoining seats tho - somebody had already bagged 1D and F on our preferred 777 flts.

I am sure SQ will through check our bags to BKK.

However given SQ and QR are different alliances not sure what needs to happen in BKK.

Do we need to go through immigration and collect bags and then recheck-in at BKK or will SQ be flexible ( have a mutual agreement with QR ) at BNE and check our bags all the way to ZUR?

I am aware the transit is not protected and have allowed an 11+hr window between bookings.

From that same article re separate tickets : "Interlining agreements are primarily concerned with facilitating the travel of passengers across different airlines on the same ticket. Just because two airlines have an interline agreement does not mean they’re obligated to check you through when travelling on separate tickets.

Most of the time they should, but keep in mind this is done as a courtesy"

About 6 weeks ago, SQ checked my bags through to CX flying SYD-SIN-HKG / HKG-KIX with only 3 hours transit. Being in F may have made a difference but I researched it pretty extensively prior and it seems SQ are very lenient.

The unknown variable which probably makes the most difference is the outstation/outsourced check-in agent.

Complete QR online check-in if you can. The agent I dealt with in Sydney mentioned that having my digital CX boarding pass already made the check-through process much easier for him.

Thank-you for your responses. It gives me some confidence to at least steer the conversation with the checkin agent rather than blindly accept “QR is not SA so no”.

This is a really good point. BKK airport is huge, beautiful but very featureless. All the shops are the same, every corridor the same, and the lounges fairly miserable. Time hangs very heavy there.

This is a really good point. BKK airport is huge, beautiful but very featureless. All the shops are the same, every corridor the same, and the lounges fairly miserable. Time hangs very heavy there.

Catering for flight delays on an unprotected connection.

Cheapest flight in -> Cheapest J flight out.

Apparently they have bookable sleeping rooms there now (so I have been told) plus we both are Thai massage fans (2hr massage) plus lounge access.
