SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yeah. I wonder if that will ever be practical?

Folk without smart phones. And phones running out of battery.

Not to mention the additional time it takes to board as people fuss around, then realise their screen has locked, then unlock, then try again, then try to get the code in focus…

If airlines want to speed up boarding go back to paper!
Yep agreed. Mobile boarding passes are super handy for those willing but for many other people its just a hassle to have them foisted upon them.

Lots of people now use Mobile Phone myki cards on public transport in Victoria, often takes them ages to touch-off while blocking the exit for everyone else. As if myki wasn’t slow enough, these mobile users are making it even more painful. This is the future of air travel as boarding becomes slower and slower (not to mention the gate agent can’t see what’s being scanned).

I’m not so sure about this. People tend to be against progress as it involve changing habits but in reality it can’t be avoided. Smartphones are part of our lives and eventually pax will have to adjust and be responsible to have their BPs ready on their (charged) phones. From a personal point of view I love collecting paper BPs so I’m not advocating to eliminate them but I’m also a realist.

Yes, but i don’t think this is actually progress! It slows down almost every point of interaction with machinery… scanning for facial recognition, at bag drop, at the gate. Disabled, old and very young flyers… hopefully a few more years yet before paperless!

I have no issues with using my phone, but IME handing over a stack of paper BPs is infinitely easier when wrangling children than trying to scan multiples off my phone as the children do not have phones.

I’m just being realistic and accepting this is where we are heading. Sure it will be inconvenient at first, for some more than others, but eventually using paper BPs will seem like the inconvenient option. Similar to using cash vs tapping your phone to pay…

I still stick with business and first/suites should have/have the option of a full colour printed boarding pass. Many people, like to keep them and they do feel more premium.

Premium BPs are often spotted at a distance - not so much in SIN (since this is an SQ thread) but I hv been waved fwd a few times when arriving late for boarding thanks to the agent spotting a bit of gold or blue on my BP. Cant see that happning with a mobile tho I do see their inevitability ..

I am sad whenever I don’t get a full colour boarding pass but I can see the writing on the wall. This problem could be easily solved by allowing a single QR code to represent a block of tickets. I think a bigger hurdle would be people’s reluctance to sign up for SIM cards when travelling in order to get their QR codes.

Do SQ allow checkin the day before flying? we are on SQ 248 departing at 7am, we arrive in MEL the previous day at 4pm.

No - 3 hours prior sched dep. Not really an explanation and others may know more, but appears Mel is tight for bag handling space. On a trip last yr with SQ we were delayed at checkin because of a tech issue with the plane. SQ/handling agents wud not actually check our bags and despatch them down the chute until they got an all-clear the plane was ready to go. Turns out it wasnt and we were xferred to a Qantas flt, but there was comments that it would hv greatly complicated matters to hv to retrieve/re-tag our bags if already checked..

Yes. The Novotel
Good, I was hoping you were not going into the CBD and back again.

I live in Melb about 45 mins from the airport and sadly end up on SQ248 as it prices out quite a bit cheaper for our flights.

We stay at the airport the night prior and would love to check the bags in and not worry about them at 5:15 in the morning
