SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

A little rumour that SQ will soon have a much better MEL Lounge location. The airport about to develop lounge space above the walkway to Gates 14 to 20. Rumour has it that SQ will get one of them.

At least there is daylight. I simply don’t use the SKL in MEL - I have priority pass so I use that. If/when I give up my expensive credit yr card that brings PP then I may investigate the NZ lounge.
The PP lounge which is 'The House' in melbourne keeps changing the menu, where there used to be an upgrade for champagne but have no idea what it is now, last time needed to argue my point

Slumming it in the J lounge personally 😜

New checkin procedures in SYD for R & F pax - there is now a dedicated First Class Checkin area - rather than at A Counters as previous it is now situated far end of B Counters so just walk to the back and you should find it.

Been in operation 2 weeks I am told - hadn’t seen it posted so here it is.

Not solely for SQ as EK will also share the area and cost I assume
I heard this was for PPS Solitaire and Poker players only, not for actual R and F pax atm?

There are multiple options for PP in MEL including a couple of lounges plus cafes where you can get food. I don’t drink alcohol so I don’t care about champagne - and I have puzzled before about how this one (somewhat bland) type of wine has become synonymous with premium travel and luxury.

IMO, champagne is amazing and far more superior in taste compared to other sparkling varieties and its association to premium travel and luxury is due to its history, exclusivity and possibly in part its association with royalty spanning back to the 17th century.

As someone who very much enjoys fine wine, for me personally this influences which airline and cabin I would book, which lounge I would visit and how we travel.

ET wrote about it when it opened, but they said it was for Solitaire PPS pax on SQ242 only (no access by class of service, and other SQ departures not eligible)

Interesting to hear that doesn't match your experience! I'll try use it in a few weeks flying Suites on SQ222 (as lowly KFEG) and will report back

Maybe need to add to Cruiser’s saying: “believe not what the internet says”? 😉

@daft009 did you ask the Q about new R / F checkin when you arrived there today?
Still at home. Leaving in 30 min. But I'm flying J. They've recently moved to aisle A for check in. Was somewhere in the middle D-E the last time I flew, mid last year. and before that they were right at the end K or something
