Just announced that SQ has recently committed to direct flights into the airport from 2026… 1 of their 5 a day into SYD, or is there actually capacity for another?

Cheers,
Matt.

Article that SQ will operate into WSI, and first foreign airline to commit.

Note article specifically refers to SQ itself and not Group (ie. TR - Scoot)

Possibly a schedule similar to SQ217/218 into MEL.
Inbound lands 8.35pm, and then departs 11.35pm for early morning SIN arrival.

I'm sure the fees will be cheaper, and maybe even some intro sweeteners - they can create demand by aggressively discounting flights, backed by airport rebates.

Given the airport is 24x7 - why not do a middle of the night flight to give people more time options?

It would be 99% that it will be leaving WSI at almost midnight as you cannot do this in SYD. That would give great connection to the rest of Asia when it get to SIN in the morning.

SQ currently only has 4 daily flights to SYD (and 1-2 on Scoot). They had a 5th before covid, which routed via CBR on the return in order to get out of SYD before curfew and not have to arrive back in SIN at 3am. SQ has not yet restored that 5th flight. If WSI doesn't have a curfew, they might resume it once the airport opens and not "need" to route via CBR.

You can pretty much assume this flight will be a 12/1am departure, a big missing piece of the SQ puzzle. On the plus side, another daylight flight SIN-WSI certainly not complaining.

Not surprised by SQs move. I expect Cathay to also do something similar like their 1:30 am timed flight out of MEL. Possibly MH as well.

MIght also see some LCC doing odd timed flights flights too.

WSI is 62 km from my house and will cost over $23 in road tolls and take more than 1 hour drive from my house. I think I will stick with Syd airport for my flights ;)

I was going to say "cue the crowd who say this doesn't suit me", but you beat me to it.

Yes, yes, yes it won't suit lots of people, but there's a population of people about (or perhaps even greater than) the size of ADL, that are closer to WSI than SYD, and it might suit them!

CX and MH are two that I believe are interested in moving in with hopefully many more to come.
Won’t suit everyone but I’d suspect it will many others.

Probably get a good idea by looking at departures out of MEL after 10:30pm (and before 6am next morning).

I wonder if QR would do the same? Would WSI count towards the 28 they are allowed per week into Australia's 4 major airports?

Perhaps WSI will become like some ME airports where they seem to be at their busiest at 3am?

It'd definitely be busy overnight I'd imagine from sheer cargo activity. A lot of those ideally want to arrive late night then depart a few hours later.

I'm wondering the same thing.
Some air service agreements count AVV as part of MEL, others don't.
