SQ321 LHR-SIN Encountered Severe Turbulence [At least 1 Fatality and 30 Injured]

We're probably still in emergency mode. Best to wait for some more facts about the exact nature of the situation before jumping to conclusions.

Let me know when you find an airline that doesn't experience turbulence.
Although SQ seems to have more than its fair share (although that could be because they do have 20+ flights each direction each day across the Bay of Bengal which is where they tend to be most problematic).

But Qantas had an incident with an A330 off WA when the aircraft went into an uncommanded descent and passengers went through the ceiling. Does the pure good fortune that no one was killed render them "failsafe"?
I think there definitely some staff and passengers disabled or severely injured for life from that flight. No fatalities but I'd consider a disability for life pretty close.

Also CNA reporting a second (unconfirmed) death:

Thai news outlet Khao Sod has reported that there has been a second death, citing a Thai source.

It's all about probability of statistics and playing the game right. If something similar were to happen to Qantas I'd reduce the safety tax down to $30 unless they upgrade their inflight experience by $20 for me to break even 🤣

Sad news.

I'm amazed at the number of people unbuckled while sitting. Everything can happen so quickly. Some people pay way too much importance on perceived comfort. Same walking around the cabin barefoot.

I thought you were trolling...its hard to be THAT ill informed.
Well no normal person would be googling this kind of statistics unless it were presented directly to them. Hence the only source for me was from Air Crash Investigations from Nat Geo. Those were definitely prime time material still remember it to this day (rest of the TV channels are dead on any given day)😴

Via google translate: The latest report added that at 5:25 p.m., there was an additional 1 person injured and later died. In total, this incident resulted in 2 deaths....

More worried about te people sleeping lying flat on J (imagine justifying wearing your seatbelt on the lie back seats in J (can you imagine?))

This makes no sense to me; I must be a bit dim.

What is the probability of statistics?

A safety tax - really?

Qantas is upgrading their inflight experience - not on your life - and the probability of statistics?

I always imagine these kinds of scenarios when going to the in flight bathrooms and the safety belt sign switches on (and i am still in the middle of doing my business from all the lounge food /in flight food). Probably next time don't consume so much..

You know what they always say: Better to be "safe" than "sorry". No regrets that way (hopefully). And justifiable too.

I put on the seatbelt when i sleep. Then again i don't move too much and i also don't tighten it all the way. Enough that it holds me in the seat but not enough to be like a car seatbelt.

OK enough for me to continue to fly with them since it is still breaking even paying my $50 safety tax :p

Seatbelts save lives.

same malady on the road toll - cars without seatbelts see lots of deaths on mainly country roads
here we are lucky to have maybe 100 road deaths now per year

People who choose not to wear seatbelts simply don’t understand the forces generated by an accident. Even a collision with a stationary object at 50 km/h generates approximately 150 g of force, which effectively turns an 80 kg person into a 12 tonne projectile on impact. In this collision a a seatbelt would reduce this force to 30 g, reducing the force of impact five-fold.

barely 20 per year in the metropolitan area
