But to answer your question there are set fees that airlines charge each other in circumstances such as these which are less than published fares and certainly less than fares available on the day.
I have little doubt this is correct.

Overall the amount for moved PAX would have been substantial, but the individual amount a would not have been anywhere near what average passengers would pay for last minute one way fares.

This is what ozbeachbabe posted on that issue:
...

The United pax were not freeloaders as UA would have paid QF a lot of money for those seats, more in fact than what you paid for your ticket.

That confuses the issue as the statement is comparing the total cost to UA with individual costs to prebooked passengers, such as the OP.

I believe a cost per seat comparison would be more useful and I am pretty sure UA's figure would be the lessor - for the specific reason as posted by downwind.

Well that's your choice to take your bat and ball, rather than share the basis of your knowledge. Your more than welcome to lecture us about being mature adults. It just a shame that you didn't wish to share the basis of your knowledge.

Anyway, I'm more than happy for you to quote any statement of what I believe on this matter. Still I'm pretty sure that OBB did not say they paid published fares either.
<redacted>

and you would have me think that UA paying QF for several of its passengers, which would have to be more than what the OP paid for their single ticket is of any relevance? Steve wonder can see that UA would have paid more overall, but I was giving OBB the benefit of the doubt, which might have been where I went wrong, and took it as tho she meant that UA paid QF more per pax, than what the OP paid. <redacted>

ITs extremely relevant since his question was in response to a mod directly challenging him on his/her post...
Aussie_flyer,

The moderators are primarily forum members and post as such. They only put on their moderator hats when needed, so the less the threads go off the rails and stay within the forum rules the less the moderators need to moderate.

Now let's all go back to the topic.

What is this? A playground?

Here I was thinking this forum was one of mature adults sharing their knowledge and mutual interest......

In any case, if you or OBB or anyone else for that matter wants to believe that UA paid published fares to QF for the uplift, you're very much entitled to do so. Ive been a long time lurker and a member for only about 2 months, but its become evident this forum is not for me. I havent experienced this level of petulance and puerility since, well... ever. I was far happier as a guest and see no point in contributing any further.

Now now there's no need for name calling (or for anyone to spit a dummy).

There are reasons that people may selectively know other members backgrounds, and why they're not generally published for everyone to know.

Remember, plenty of people on here work in the industry and quite possibly for an airline. Working for an airline you're not officially representing the company on here unless you're an official company rep (say like Velocity Frequent Flyer or Red Roo). As such, those employees are happy to impart knowledge and experience to us here, but cannot be associated knowingly with a company directly.

If you're a long time lurker, you should know a little more about OBB possibly ;)

Interesting experience and I guess a lesson for the future.

I am not that good a friend with anyone to sacrifice a seat for them or that I cannot sit apart from them for ~14 hours. If you already knew about seating then you should have convinced your friend to pre-allocate 80A and 80K as you suggeted or even 80H and 80K if they were both available.

I do understand and feel your pain about reclining though. Yes people can do it but I do not want to be sitting behind them when they are doing it so I make every effort to be in some sort of bulkhead or exit row.

The A380 is not that bad and I hope you have better experience next time. The A380 is much better than an A330 but not as good as the 747.

We stumped up for PE on the A380 and were surprised at how very little room there was when the seats were reclined.
I have not been in premium economy on the A380 but I was in premium on the 747 and I believe they are very similar products. The recline on those seats is way too much and makes the flight very uncomfortable if you happen to be sitting behind a chronic recliner. It is very difficult to get out of aisle seat and almost impossible out of window seat.

Non-bulkhead seats in premium economy are to be avoided like the plague. And I may even go to the extreme of trying to exchange a non-bulkhead premium economy seat for a bulkhead seat if I feel uncomfortable enough in the future.

And to all the regular posters who keep jumping down the throats of new or not so regular posters. STOP IT!!!!

See what happens when you call the a380 a "death trap". Everyone gets upset lol

This is vegetable lasagna: (postcount rules, can't link video but got to youtube, load a video, then replace this after the URL: /watch?v=1nIiJLoDh7Y

Wow didn't realize this would be a thread, I posted it as a comment in another thread.

Anyway, yes it's pretty much my own fault that I got stuck where I did. Because, despite my strong advice my friend didn't book 80A, even though I warned him I wouldn't swap, I still ended up giving up my seat.
Yes I can imagine he A380 is probably better than some other flights. I will fly A380 again but I'll be dammed if I'm taking anything other than 80A or 80K (or an exit row), friendships be dammed!

Oh by the way, you guys might appreciate this, the connecting flight from LA to LAS was the first flight ever for Virgin America, and they had this big launch party.

We had like three hours to wait before the flight, I knew that it was their inaugural flight from LA to LAS but that was all I knew. We didn't plan this, it just so happened that the day we needed a transfer was their first flight. We only found out later because they emailed us before the flight.
My friend and I chowed down on Burger King Whoppers which, seriously if you are ever in LA domestic terminal and need something to eat.. my god.. it was the best burger I think I've ever had. Nothing like "Hungry Jacks". It was the best one I had even better than "Five Guys" or the sad excuse for burgers they served at Gordon Ramsays "pub" in Ceasars.

I noticed they had this fruit platter and that was about it, and there were two awesome A320? model airplanes with virgin livery. I really wanted one but there were these guys guarding the fruit platter..

So we got on the flight and I knew something was going to happen because almost all of the other passengers seemed to be media or worked for virgin. There was some Vegas showgirls too (hubba hubba!).

I even got to meet Richard Branson as he was on the flight. I can't post any links, because of post count rules. The flight is so short that we didn't get to see the showgirls perform.. there was a lot of turbulence coming into Vegas over those mountains, so we all got a bit sick.

When we landed there were these big green firetrucks out on the tarmac, and they shot water over the plane, apparently it's a tradition? It was neat.

And then at the gate when we arrived there was this big party, red carpet and photographers, it was insane, people handing me coughtails..there was a big stage setup. My friend and I picked an empty table to stand at. And then I saw them. Every table had one of the Virgin A320 models on it. I quickly grabbed the one from our table, everyone was now watching Richard Bransons speech.

I unscrewed the plinth from the plane and stuffed them into my backpack, which was already stuffed with a blanket from the A380 (those blanked are awesome for my dog). I finished my disgusting "cosmopolitan" coughtail and got the hell out of there.

Thinking back it probably wasn't the smartest idea to be stealing things as a newly landed tourist in an airport, but whatevs, I now have an awesome momento of that flight! To be honest I think that model was the thing I liked best about the trip, well that and Vegas, man I can't wait to go back!

If you google "virgin LA to LAS inaugural" You will see the videos on youtube.
