Sri Lankan to join One World

I wasn't overly complimentary with the decision as noted on my blog. It just seems like oneworld can do much better.

The skytrax reviews aren't that fabulous either, but somewhat reflective of it's 3 star airline ranking.

I liked your balanced piece. I think it reflects what most people are thinking - an unexpected addition.

I've never flown SriLankan, so can't really comment, other than to say that other Oneworld members are Skytrax 3-star such as American Airlines, LAN, S7, Royal Jordanian, Airberlin, and affiliates NIKI, Alaska Airlines, and so on. Now of course the standards (particularly in certain classes of travel or for non-status pax) of some of these airlines aren't amazing (I'm thinking American in particular) but I wonder how SriLankan compares. I wonder if everyone has been checking out SriLankan's destinations to start planning for potential trips...

No idea about the merits of Sri Lankan but it's a shame that PER is such a cough for INT-DOM connections. Would be a logical place for Qantas and Sri Lankan's route networks to touch.

It’s been a while since a Catalina flew in that direction, would be pretty cool to get a QF flight over, provided there’s demand for it, otherwise might just be better to build some new Catalina’s :p

Another Air Pacific?

They’re not part of OneWorld though :p

Perhaps next logical choice though, if they can be trusted to participate properly.

Mixed lines, my point was in relation to YQY post linking the article on how the Sri Lankan PM sacked the CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines because they wouldn't find seats for him & 34 of closest staff/friends/alleged war criminals, etc.

Like FJ - things can change quickly.

Not sure why there is any talk of a Catalina - the OP is asking why not have a QF Dom connect to a UL International, given there has already been UL A340s seen at Per I thing we dont need to worry about Catalinas!

SYD is the same as PER for transfers and that hasnt stopped QF hubbing there. Might be a good way for SL to look at serving Aus and work with QF for code onto PER-SYD,BNE,MEL,ADL. Would also be another route to EU/LON for PER travellers.

I just figured if they join, considering the history, perhaps a codeshare with their own metal back there wouldn’t be amiss.

Sri Lanka have not made service in the past stick from Colombo, nor have KLM, not sure how much an alliance would make in terms of traffic differences.

Re: SRi LAnka joining oneworld

i hate that !
I even did the search and it didn't come up

Looking like a right idiot!
I wonder if its too late to delete it!

Re: SRi LAnka joining oneworld

You may not have found it because the numpty* who started the thread used Sir instead of Sri in the title.

*I was that numpty

Interesting that this thread has not generated that much interest.

Always wanted to visit the country, so at least now I'll be able to earn to my favoured alliance if I get the chance.
CX have been going there for years with some decent pricing in business class. ;)

I assumed there’d be more domestic destinations than there are… most seem to be charters, but can’t see a country in just one city :p

Cant speak for anyone else but I try to avoid airlines based in developing countries. Don't trust them.

How decent? And booking through CX direct or elsewhere?
