Eligible purchases do not include BPAY or BPAY equivalent transactions, fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds, balance transfers debited from the card account, government fees and ATO payments

Bold emphasis mine. This part is not true (and is the main reason why even a signup bonus like this is not enough to get me to churn this card)

Maybe this is the solution to my never ending wait for an enticing Amex deal... nice spotting!

Well one could wait...or one can just keep earning some Amex sign on bonuses anyway. ie I have Edge and Explorer for their great earn. And over the last 2 months have gained two lots of joining bonuses for Westpac issued Amexes in my name. Plus more bonuses for joining sup members up ( I just keep removing and adding whenever supp bonuses are offered). And then it is Amex Cashback season at present ;)

I've also had success in getting referral bonuses for people who already have Amexes, and they've had success in getting signup points... getting out of the game for 18 months wouldn't make sense for me.

Application finally successful. The application process was a little fraught - immediate conditional approval dependent on specific documentation (payslips), then deciding they need entirely different documentation days later (bank statements), then leaving you messages to asking you to call back to check further outstanding documentation, then leaving you on hold and having no idea why they asked to call you, because they have the documentation and will confirm the application in the next couple of hours.

I don't seem to pass the AI layers of St George which possibly (and correctly) identifies me as a card churner. Failed the second time, instantly upon submission. Last time I had 4 cards at the time of application but this time just 2, my finance is otherwise good (I would say I likely appears as a "very good borrower" to the bank's algorithm).

Anyone successfully churn this card? Or get approved with a history of credit card churning?

Really? I’ve been waiting for 18 months to hit to refer the wife for an explorer and then cancel mine. You have had points arrive regardless of exclusion periods?

Could a supplementary card holder of a STG visa apply for their own and be allotted the bonus points?

Could anyone who applies tell me how many pay slips they ask for please? I've recently changed jobs and had 6 months of between jobs so they ask for two payslips I will apply but if they ask for three I might keep my powder dry for another churning candidate in the new year.

They asked me for 2 payslips initially and afterwards bank statements showing three months of salaries being paid.

I'm still waiting for my additional card on this, a month later, and received a call yesterday to say I'd had the full $279 annual fee refunded to apologise. It arrived this morning. Not bad at all for a card that I'm not paying an annual fee on this year - now hope the points post quickly.

Applied and approved for this one yesterday. Hard to say no to 50k free KF points.
