Mentioned here yesterday.

and previously speculated here.

But now being picked up by others after the CEO of Starlux announced their intention to seek OW membership but will CX veto?

The‘ve been expanding their Nth Am routes but not much in this direction AFAIK?

Would expect the Chinese airline, Cathay Pacific would not be in favour.

Currently a small airlines (22 aircraft)

Starlux is an AS Alaska ff partner

Another blogger (they tend to parrot each other)
Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines is fascinating. It’s a revenge play by the former Chairman of Star Alliance carrier EVA Air who was ousted after his father’s death, the victim of an estate squabble stemming from plural marriage. He was son to the founder’s second wife, and ousted by the children of the founder’s first wife.

The current Chinese carrier in OW is a founding member of the alliance and therefore has veto powers, and I don't think they would be afraid to use them.

CX can only veto if they stay

Wouldn't be surprised if oneworld execs have been courting them on the chance CX does leave.

Wasn’t CZ in talks to join OW at one stage?
OW definitely need a presence in China IMO

I think it really depends on how starlux and the others approach the situation.

Whilst CX does have vested interest, this is also a little different compared to CZ (China Southern) who is literally up the road from CX and HKG.

Starlux would be competing with CX, but at the same time not directly either. For places like Taiwan which has quite a bit of traffic on their own, Transpacific offerings likely cater to different crowds.

It would mean interesting things for QF and CI partnershipd as CI is a good option to spend QFF points. Unless JX starts up flights to Australia, it would mean a downgrade for QFF if CI is dropped as a partner.

I just can’t see JX starting flights to Australia, CI does ok but BR hasn’t even attempted to open up more Australian destinations.
CI is a good option for QF points so would be a loss if that partnership ended

Yeah, I meant to comment on that also. It probably doesn't phase QF too much if they maintain that partnership and JX do join OW since they don't fly to Oz.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

While CX does have lots of cheap fares ex-TPE not sure if they make much money on it, and letting JX join would be similar to QR not being concerned about WY Oman joining.

Agree if CX got bought out by CA and folded into Star, then it would make sense for CZ to join.

I have heard many good things about Starlux. Would be terrific if they expand into Australia.

Someone tell Qld State Govt so they can spend more money attracting them to BNE airport.

Wonder any destinations (other than TPE) served by all of BR, CI and JX?

And more smoke.
And also a comment that it's to fly to Australia.

Is that apply to join by the end of next year or aim to be in OW by the end of next year? The later is obviously an aggressive timetable but waiting another 15 odd months to apply seems long? I wonder if they have a sponsor already and/or they need to work behind the scenes to get consensus from founding members.
