I've only ever had 1 upgrade to a Suite and that was also in Singapore, not in a SPG property, Marriott Orchard Road ... simply awesome room.

I can't recall ever getting a suite upgrade as an SPG gold. However since becoming platinum, I will often get suites upgrades, particularly at non-city properties.

I have.

Extreme wow suite at W Times Square.
Also suites at Westin Sydney, and Four Points Sheraton Sydney.

I used to stay at Four Points Sydney about once a month. I'd always book a city room but would always be upgraded to a minimum harbour room. Suite maybe 30% of the time.

The W Melbourne may materialise-
HOTELSMag.com

Sorry having problems with AFF on the work computer. It wont copy any more of the story. But a 31 story building being developed by Jinshan Investments.A 205 room hotel plus 145 apartments.Starwood not commenting and no opening date.

News of a possible W hotel in Melbourne is interesting, as Starwood has a serious [problem with too few rooms in Melbourne.
The proposed W is to be where the current Palace Theatre at the Parliament end of Bourke Street is situated.
It seems the proposal is for a building of around 100 metres, which is way over the current height restriction of 23 metres.
Planning Minister Matthew Guy wasn't exactly enthusiastic when interviewed on ABC radio.

Interesting, would be sad (at least for those of us a certain age!) to see the former Metro nightclub/Palace theatre gone. More here. But I guess it has been closed for a while.

The Sheraton at least add 174 rooms.

Starwood website is showing Sheraton Melbourne opening date as 26 February 2014. Let's hope it happens. :)

Westin Chosun Seoul
Stay 1: upgrade to suite, executive lounge access. Unfortunately with midnight arrival and 8:30am departure didn't really get to enjoy the suite - but it was big
Stay 2: upgrade to executive room with lounge access (stayed through to 4pm checkout). Got 10 mins in lounge during happy hour, not that impressive but self serve alcohol

Sheraton Surabaya
Upgraded to suite (basically 2 rooms), pre-arrival welcome email with preferences, so I had some apples, chocolates, biscuits and a coke laid out on the table with welcome letter on arrival. Lounge access - reasonable spread. Really look after platinums here, staff very welcoming.

Quick question to those who had stayed in the executive suite in Westin Sydney. What is like say compared to Relaxation suites in Hilton Sydney? Currently tossing between the two (King Suite at Hilton Sydney and Executive suite in Westin Sydney). Any thoughts/ idea?

Are you taking about the King suite or relaxation suite at Hilton Sydney?
As far as I remember the King suite is much bigger. I was upgraded to it once and was very impressed by the massive living room, large bathroom with double sinks and the tub in the middle and separate bedroom. You can't compare it to the exec rooms at Westin, it's much more impressive.
The relaxation suites are smaller but I like the large jacuzzi with the city views.
The exec suites at Westin are very nice with good size living room and separate bedroom. Bathroom is same size as in regular rooms with good views of the city.

As a hotel, I prefer the Westin, but if I would pay for a suite I would choose the relaxation suite at Hilton.

Westin nusa dua - booked garden view room for US$130 and upgraded to huge renovated Westin suite. Pretty handy that miss world 2013 is being held here too ;)

Upgrade to Suite via SNA's at Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok.
Very nice room, heard there is a fabulous buffet breakfast, which I will sample tomorrow before teeing off at Alpine Golf Club. Had two good rounds in HKG, Hong Kong Golf Club and Clearwater Bay GC. Driving it well, iron play has seen better days, but recent short game practice and coaching paid off.

Off to Hua Hin on Saturday for two more rounds. Didn't lose a ball in HKG, if I squeeze in 3 more rounds with one sleeve of balls it will be a miracle...

Rate paid was Baht3600 per night.

Cheers

Sheraton Munich Airport Hotel
Status: SPG Gold
Booked: Superior Twin
Received: Executive Twin

Requested a queen/king, but none were available. Not sure of the difference between the two room types, but the executive does seem a decent size, and there was some complimentary bottled water in the mini-bar. Had a great afternoon out at the Erdinger Brewery, which is just down the road, if anyone is looking for an airport hotel with access to something different off the beaten track! 12 EUR for a full tour, including pretty much all you can drink Erdinger varieties for about 2 hours after the tour + pretzels and weiswurst!

W Bangkok
SPG Gold
Booked Studio Suite
Upgraded to Marvellous Suite

Called W Bangkok's reservations department on day of reservation and was asked if I booked the Studio Suite (which at the time was only a small premium to the basic room), would I get upgraded to the next available on SPG.com which was a Marvellous Suite. Reservations lady said yes but subject to availability at time of check in. Of course this is contrary to the meaning of "enhanced room". She told me to book online and call her back so that she can put an upgrade request on my reservation.

Called reception and asked to confirm whether I would be upgraded. Of course they said no and that reservations had made a mistake. Took a punt anyway and it paid off!
