When dealing with Qantas there are many ridiculous outcomes :!:

Not least of which is the situation which started this thread: That as a QF FF, I can earn DOUBLE the QF SC's on an identical route by NOT flying Qantas and saving 25% of the QF fare in the process. No wonder their international business has lost serious market share!

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I might even think it's a deliberate strategy to move pax off QF and onto JQ.........

Whilst it is illogical to get double the points on a Jetstar flight as on a Qantas flight, anomalies exist in many things in life.
The best way of dealing with them is to discuss them, and take advantage of the ones that work your way.
Already in this thread alternatives are being discussed and that is where this site excels.

You could of course raise the issues with Qantas, and in some case this is appropriate.
However I suggest in this case Qantas would act in one of two ways:

1. Do nothing, as the number of people affected is insignificant.
2. Reduce the number of Status Credits you earn on Jetstar!

Best to focus on enjoying flying, and enjoy the perks when they come. :D

Its only because one books into discount fare buckets and the other into Y fare bucket, more of a quirk that Jetstar fare books into Y.

And on a cost per SC basis, there are plenty of routes that have good SC earn and plenty that are bad. Just look at AA K-UPP fares for example.

I am thinking of sucking up the the hotel cost to get the LAN flights on my next AKL trip...

Yea I didn't think before posting, doh.
My personal situation is I have to stay the extra night so can choose any flight between 00:01 and 23:59 and the accommodation cost is not a factor.

Again, apologies.

I think a couple of LAN flights are just the ticket for sc's.
I know it is on my agenda for my next membership year

No need to apologise - I wasn't disagreeing - just something to factor in for some people.

I realise this was a QF specific question, however for the same price as LAN Biz (normal pricing), you can get get Emirates First class, which includes a driver on BOTH ends (this alone saves ~$200 for me) and you can have a shower on the plane.... and internet.... and a proper meal.... with real drinks. Great departure time.... and Emirates AKL lounge is far superior to QF, and the Syd lounge is not too shabby. Just a few extra options... Emirates F (a380) is still $1000 less than QF Biz. Did I just convince myself to fly Emirates?

Hmm - 6:40PM flight ex-AKL - that is better timing than teh QF flights.

Mind you the pricing isn't great - $2,600... ($1422 in J) - for the dates I looked at.

That is crazy pricing! How can they not be making money when prices like that come up and flights aren't empty???

Around the end of last year Emirates had a mixed business and first class special return to Auckland for $1400.
