In the recently years' "switcheroo" status match promotion anyone who had VA status in the past was explicitly ineligible. But it's surprising and a shame that this exclusion is hanging around

Many airlines have a 'once in a lifetime' policy with status matches. It's an oldskool airline management thing.
New school thinking hasn't reached Australia yet. Give it a few years.
