how you guys decide on applying st george, bank of melb vs bank SA? Say from online application and postage point of view, instead of your location. No difference? Do you know if their application assessment may differ?

As mentioned above, I went St.George online as that is where I saw the promo code, however I was herded into a BOM branch and ended up with a BOM card somehow. The indication i got from the banking guy was that it is mainly the same but at a branch more likely to be accepted if there was some question marks (regardless of which bank).

I think I received the PDS in 3 days of approval. A week later I still haven't seen the card and they're sending me messages about activating it.

This after telling me they'd be sending me a certified letter or something to verify it's me. FFS

Rang up. Explained. Said they'll order me a card.

Don't know if that meant it wasn't previously ordered.

Applied on the weekend, got approved just now. I had to push them.
This is for the Amplify Qantas Signature offer for 80k QFF with $6k spend and a $139 first year annual fee ($279 thereafter).

**Discounted First Year Fee: The discounted first year annual card fee promotion is available when you apply for a new Amplify Platinum (and elect to link your card account to the Amplify Rewards program), Vertigo Platinum or Amplify Signature credit card between 3rd October 2019 and 12th February 2020. The first annual card fee at the reduced rate will be debited from your card account on your first transaction and the full annual card fee, will be debited annually thereafter. Credit criteria, fees and charges apply.

*Amplify Qantas Bonus Points Offer: The respective bonus points promotions are available when you apply and are approved for a new Amplify Platinum Qantas or Amplify Signature Qantas credit card between 3rd October 2019 and 12th February 2020, and spend the minimum amount of $6,000 on eligible purchases on an Amplify Signature Qantas credit card or $2,000 on eligible purchases on an Amplify Platinum Qantas credit card within 90 days from card approval. Eligible purchases do not include BPAY or BPAY equivalent transactions, fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds, balance transfers debited from the card account, government fees and ATO payments. Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. The bonus points will be credited to your points balance within 12 weeks after the eligible spend criteria is met. If your account has an interest free period for purchases, to be entitled to that interest free period, you need to pay off the 'Monthly Payment Balance' listed on your statement of account (not the full closing balance) by the relevant payment due date.

I have contrived to be rejected for my first credit application here.
This despite having an income >120k and net assets in the positive.
They informed me that they calculated my liabilities accounting for the total credit limit on existing held cards. Since I had a 40k limit on a Citibank card and 15k on a Bankwest card I was rejected - despite not carrying a balance on either.
Of course, they didn't have the courtesy to notify me of this - I had to go round the houses trying to find what had happened to my application.
Presumably credit providers are scrutinizing applications more closely.

This isn't universally clear.

I'd say that St George have recently changed how they process applications, though. Amex still seems to be giving cards to anyone.

Is there a way of telling when you Bpay something whether it will attract a cash advance fee?

And I think the banks have become anally retentive after the Bank RC... Which sucks for the people who do know what they are doing with their money... Gross incompetence or criminality of the banks not withstanding....

I have said for a while that people may need to consider and adjust their overall limits. Whether you agree with this approach or not the banks who do this say the limit is available for lending and under our laws they can’t see the balance. Before you knock the banks too much on this, they argued for balance being available on your credit report (as it’s more relevant than limit) but were knocked back, the blame lies elsewhere!

Yeh Amex isn't a Bank and hasn't been under the scrutiny that the Banks have in terms of lending standards

When I applied for the QF Amplify last year, SGB optionally requested visibliity of my bank accounts which I declined, dont want them nit picking on how I spend my money. Im happy to tell them the balance, but how i spend my money is my business provided i play off my debt as due. I really think the positive credit reproting should indicate if you pay the full amount or minimum payment each month; as well as how much of the limit you are using.

I will be cancelling a card waiting for it to show up as closed before applying for the next. Takes a little juggling, ideally i like to have an amex, visa and mastercard in play - but someontimes I have to be a brand down due to this approach.

Yes - really good point there about the visibility and granularity of credit reporting and data.

Like you - I don't want credit providers seeing where I travel, and how much I spent at the bakery on Thursday morning, but I do want them to see my existing credit card limits and balances so they can see that balances are paid in full every month (any other approach is financial insanity given the ridiculous interest rates charged on credit cards). A system that can't discriminate between a full monthly balance payer and a customer that just pays a minimum monthly amount isn't fit for purpose as an evaluation of credit risk tool. May as well throw darts at a risk matrix...

Agreed, ive always paid the full amount owing and never paid a cent in interest, from the banks pov i shouod be an ideal credit risk but then again maybe not so appealing as they dont earn any interest from me.

It is somewhat annoying that the best earning cards have minimuj limits of $15k, if willing to pay fee and meet income requirements one really shouod be allowedto set a lower limit.

I agree with you totally. I am a bit worried with the 'open banking' that is coming down the tracks and at some stage in the future applications will require access to your other accounts as part of the application process.

Trying to time my cancellation re some big points earning payments I need to pay (which cant wait for approval process and new card), does anyone who has kept this card for > 12 months know if the annual fee is charged in the annversary month (month 13) or in advance on month 12?

I got this card in March, assume renewal fee will therefore be charged in March, so if I cancel the card on last day fo the February statement period I should avoid it?

Give them a call and ask When your AF is going to be charged. I did and it was quick and painless.

Been on hold for ages, such a shame it isnt something you can check online. I always end up having to hang up because I cant wait any longer, calling SGB is like calling Qantas :( Im a premium customer at my main bank so used to getting straight through.

** Edited they finally answered, yep its charged in March so will cancel on last day of my Feb Statement period.

Don't waste your time. Put it in writing and make them waste their time responding. Banks hate that!

Just out of curiosity, How long does BoM take to produce the credit card e statement ? The statement end date was yesterday and i have not received one so far. (I got approved for the Amplify Plat Visa in early Jan this year)

Cancelled this card on 3rd March (after paying the baance in ful) and have a closure letter. Latest update for this card sent to Credit Simple was 7th March but still showing account as open when it is not. Submitted a correction but n reply. Banks really out to be reqyured to report closures in a timely manner.
