Strategy to obtain US Amex

For Hilton Aspire card, do we have any control over what courier Amex uses to send the card and to obtain a tracking number?

Can anyone kindly advise on how I advise Amex of my card. No when I make the payment via xe ? In which field do I mention the card / acccount. Account number. Also how long does it take for the payment to be received?

You can possibly call and request them . Tends to be dhl for oz

Thanks, looks like they used USPS so now MyUS will not release the mail without a notorised form 1583, guess I will have to make an appointment at the US consulate in Melbourne. :(

Your account is on hold. Your membership requires a completed and notarized USPS Form 1583. We do not show record of this in your account. Please provide this form to Customer Service, so that we can release the hold on your account.

See my post 1-2 pages back, I had paid membership (though got it free before) and was able to use DHL to post from MYUS to Aus.

I used the paid membership too, but how did Amex delivered the card to MyUS? I logged into the Amex website and Amex has decided to use USPS to deliver the card, so now MyUS has placed a hold onto my account until I provide the 1583 form, did Amex chose another delivery courier instead of USPS?

Edit: Just to be clear, I also have the premium membership with MyUS, but USPS is refusing to ship my Amex card until I provide the 1583 form and locked down my MyUS account. :(

i believe amex always sends within the us via USPS. to oz they use dhl. If a package has no tracking my us considers it mail and rejects or holds it pending form 143 if you have a premium plus mail subscription.

Ah mine was through UPS, I assume they are different mail providers.

Looks like I got lucky without the need for any forms for MyUS to release my card and I only have the free account as well.

Apologies for the stupid question in advance but why are so many people wanting a SSN/ITIN to open a checking account? I'm currently using XE to pay and AE's bank does take $20 USD in the process. However, looking at Chase and BOA, the checking account has a monthly fee unless you meet certain requirements. For example just focusing on Chase as it seems to have the most comprehensive fee schedule I can find, the monthly account service fee is $12 or for it to be waived it requires a minimum $500 deposit or a daily balance of $1500 for the checking account or $5000 for all Chase linked account.
Then a $15 fee applies for all incoming wire transfers unless it "was originally sent with the help of a Chase banker or using chase.com or Chase Mobile". Not sure how it works by having Chase initiate the transfer from my Aus account...

So at the end of the day, if fees still apply, isn't it easier to just use one of the wire transfer services like XE than going through the trouble of getting a SSN/ITIN and opening a checking account? Am I missing something?

Yes, you missed some important information, please read some pages back. I got the checking account without any SSN or ITIN. The purpose I need an ITIN is to apply for another US credit card, Chase for example. Amex is the only one in the US doesn't require SSN or ITIN but you will face the hassle when you call them, they will always ask what your SSN or ITIN is to identify you and you will have to explain the whole story every time you call any of their department, especially the fraud protection department.

My understanding is that deliveries that are received from a courier will not be an issue at MyUS.

However, in the case of the USPS (i.e., the Post Office), mail will not be delivered to a third party (e.g. to MyUS) without the authorisation of the Form 1583.

AMEX chat said that they send the Aspire card by UPS courier (all despatched from Omaha, Nebraska). However, there are a number of other cards, such as the Green Card, which go by ordinary mail (through the Post Office), and not by courier (and therefore have the Form 1583 requirement).

So, for the Aspire card, where a courier delivers to MyUS, there should not be any issues, as there is no need for the Form 1583.

According to AMEX chat, Aspire cards are delivered by the courier company UPS (United Parcel Service), pretty much next day within most of the USA.

Edit: Once despatched by Amex, courier tracking details will be shown in your Amex account. UPS has no connection with USPS (the Post Office).

Gday

I have been following this thread since the start and the information contained within is excellent. Later in the year I intend to apply for the Amex Aspire. My query is this: I am currently sitting out my 18 month exclusion period from Amex Australia for bonus points. When my 18 months ticks over i will get an Aussie Amex that has a decent bonus then apply online using the methods previously mentioned for the USA Amex Aspire. Does anyone have any experience in how long it would be prudent to wait after getting my Au Amex to applying for the USA one? Note i have held Au Amex's on and off for about 5 years so if they are using my Au Amex history to gauge my credit worthiness then it should be ok although i noted a few pages back someone said they just use Equifax so if that looks ok then i guess it shouldn't be a drama.

Thanks.
Pele.

Cant you apply before getting your Aussie Amex ? You should still have your log in details and your Amex credit worthiness should be linked to the same .

I think the fact I got the mail subscription backfired on me, the photos show Amex sent two items: a package sent by UPS along with a letter, MyUS has put both items together and requested form 1583 before they will release any of them. Perhaps you might be able to get away with it if you don't have the mail subscription, as they will then reject the letter and only send you the package.

Do you have your MyUS account (Shipping Preferences>Schedule) set to “Automatic - Packages are forwarded automatically when they arrive (no consolidation)”? If so, then they should not be lumping them together.

In any case, you could email to have them separated (and, for the time being at least, quietly forget about the letter that came via the Post Office). Then, they would have no reason not to forward the package, as it would not need the form 1583. How does that sound?

Also, as Monday 20th is a US public holiday (Martin Luther King Day), there may be no-one at the MyUS warehouse until Tuesday.

Edit: Clarity

Thanks DC3, it's worth a shot but the message say my entire account is locked down until I can provide form 1583, so I am not sure they will let me skip it. As you said they won't be back until Tuesday US time, so I will try to get the 1583 form completed first and will use your approach if I encounter issues with the 1583 form from MyUS.

In the grand scheme of things, $25 USD to notorise the form isn't a big cost, I am more worried about how I can pay off the monthly balance without putting the account into debit (something that Amex hates) and without the international transfer cost.

Edit: No go, basically MyUS will not let me send anything until I provide them with form 1583. When I tried to create a shipping request, the system gave an error message and ask me to review the notes on my account. I guess I can ask MyUS to manually ship it for me without form 1583 for just the parcel, but it probably will take longer than getting form 1583 done, given how most customer service will just say "the computer says no" without regarding the reasons or whether the decision is justified.

The problem seems to have been created by MyUS in deciding to lump items together. In any case, I think that the bottom line would be that MyUS is expected to provide a service based on your preferences/instructions, which you should be able to change as it suits you.

Hopefully it will quickly be resolved to your satisfaction, in whichever way you chose to go.
