Strategy to obtain US Amex

Does TextNow still work when it comes to receiving AMEX texts? It seems like TextNow is not available to non US subscribers anymore. I tried to renew my premium subscription but the app would not allow me to.

Can anyone recommend other options which are similar to Textnow ?
Is Talkatone a good alternative ?

Anyone else here ever received an upgrade offer yet (e.g. Surpass to Aspire or from Gold to Platinum)?

They tend to come in batches. There were a lot in 2021, not so many of late though some people have seen them.

Yes. Haven't had any problem with TextNow renewing, but I'm on an annual subscription for my number only.

I also have the annual subscription ( I took out the annual subscription in Jan 2022. ) I will have to check if it has been renewed for this year. It seems to be working on Webull and when I called and texted the number myself.

What's the issue you are having then? Not receiving Amex verification texts? Did you verify the phone number when you first received the Amex card?

The issue was I tried opening a Varo bank account but my Textnow number did not receive the verification texts. Then I checked the app and realised that my Oz payment methods are not accepted by Textnow. I think Textnow are only available to USA and Canada subscribers now.

Ahh I see, not sure I have an answer. I subscribe through iTunes using my Australian iTunes account, for what it is worth. You could try switching your phone to the US region and downloading/subscribing that way.

They’re a certified acceptance agent for the IRS. People have been using them to apply for an ITIN. That will allow you to apply for business cards or cards from other banks such as Chase, maybe Citi? Haven’t looked much into that as I’m still waiting for my ITIN too.
Does having an ITIN mean you have any tax obligations in US or need to complete a tax return?

Log in to your Amex account and try going to the link after you’ve done so. Should pick up that you’re logged in.

yeah spot on, through the Amex app, will give you your FICO if available.
Yes that’s the new user 10% off. I’ll DM you.

Google Resy Amex, should pull up the page with Resy Amex referrals. Alternatively, link: Resy | Right This Way
Thanks - it says it is unavailable so I assume I haven't had it long enough

MyUS advised they received my AMEX welcome pack. They are charging 28 USD to be shipped (inc. an $8 fee for incorrect labelling on the letter)...ridiculous. Will probably discard and wait the 10 days for AMEX to ship it express as it sounds like even waiting the 10 business days will get it shipped quicker than MyUS!

I was able to get 4 cards via GT so far. All three Hiltons and the
Platinum
Did you still get the bonus points too?

Same here. Came in a box way too big!

I’ve found MyUS to be very highly priced. I bought a board game for $US90 and got charged $US90 to ship it. That’s outrageous. They are very useful in providing an address for US cards but god help you if you need them to ship anything out to you. I know they’re not a charity and provide a convenience but it is pretty pricey for what it is.

Is someone using another service which has been reliable and less expensive which you’re comfortable in sharing on the forum or by PM please? Keen to hear about your experiences. It needs to work with US banks & not be considered a commercial mail company.

This is effectively part of the ‘price’ in order to obtain a US address. Maybe shop around for other options that suit your needs

Amex is fighting back on the sign-up bonus front! Some of the best bonuses since the depths of COVID-19.

Platinum is 150K + $200 statement credit.

Gold is 90K + $200 statement credit.

Both available only through a referral (may need to try the referral link in multiple browsers/VPNs to get the highest point offer). Happy to send my links to anyone who is eligible and interested.
For those who already got a green card or gold card and wanted to apply for a plat card, please wait until you got the offer to upgrade your current to Platinum card. Then, go to a referral link to apply for a new Platinum card, get approved.

Then go back to the upgrade offer and accept it. You should get both SUB point (150k + $200 credit) and the upgrade bonus points (100k), total is 250k points + $200 credit, assuming that you can meet the requirement spends for both offers.

Just note that you will not get upgrade offers if you have held the card for less than a year due to US legislations.

I'm fine with paying that fee if their service is respectable, but their processing times are shocking. I forwarded a different parcel to MyUS, advertised as 8-12 business days shipping (including processing times) and it took them 10 days to process the order. I don't understand their premium prices for sub-par servicing including a monthly fee.

Be sure to post about a better deal that you find

How many Amex cards can you apply for without an issue?

Last month, I received the gold charge and was just approved for the Hilton Aspire. I have read that the 2nd one shouldn't be <5 days of the 1st and the 3rd shouldn't be <90 days of the 1st. However, is that just credit cards or does that also include charge cards?

In an ideal world, I would Aspire, then 7 days later the Surpass, and 100 days after 1st the fee free Hilton card

I would be interested too.

I have a number of friends in the US, but not that close that I would be happy to ask to use their address for my credit cards :)

That's about right.
2 cards per 90 days as far as I know.
This does not include charge cards, so you can apply for 2 credit cards and as many charge cards you want in a 90 days period. Depending on your reported income, credit score and balances on your current AmEx cards of course.

Just confirming I've received my ITIN. I received the letter from the IRS before I was contacted by SH Studios.

The application was received by the IRS on 6/2 and the notice was issued on 10/3. Definitely a good time to apply for an ITIN.

Although.. I'm feeling a bit silly asking my mailforwarder to scan me a copy of the letter as it actually includes information such as DOB on it. I may look at freezing my credit reports.
