Strategy to obtain US Amex

Not meaning to highjack the thread but I am getting desperate….
I have a U.S. Citibank CC and recently they have asked to confirm my identity buy using a OTP. My problem is they won’t use an AUS phone number but insist on a US phone number.

Skype says that you can receive sms but not OTPs. Does anyone in the Brains Trust know a way around this 🤔

Getting worried as they have locked my account and insist on a U.S. OTP

Try TextNow. Think that you might need a US iTunes Store account to get this but that’s easy to set up

Hi everyone, finally managed to submit my application. AMEX contacted me and needs to verify my full name through a statement.

I have created an account with WISE. The USD account has the bank address in America. Will this be sufficient? It doesn’t have my American address on there however.

I had more luck with Talkatone than text now but if you can part with $10USD just get a T-Mobile eSim and use that

We’ll it’s never over until it’s over….
Having read all about Skype phone numbers and how can receive sms but not OTPs I can now report that they can indeed receive OTPs. I have a new US Skype number and used it to receive US Citibank OTP. The whole process was very simple. Monthly cost is around $9 but worth it as my account is now unlocked.

Now have to sort out Citibank Thankyou Points transfer to Qatar…Never a dull moment 🤙

H Dein,

When applying through a referral link it doesn't pre-populate when I'm logged in. Nor is there any option to link it to your Aus AMEX account. How'd you go about this?

*Edit - found out how to apply for most cards through GT but the gold doesn't appear. Question is it possible to apply through a referral link via GT as a new US AMEX holder?

Cheers!
I linked a referral link from the gold card and it used my existing Amex history has proof I guess. I don't know if it was officially GT or not - I do have an hsbc US account though.

Card arrived this week but I'm overseas until the end of next week

Lucky you, sounds like you need an existing account to get the referrals! I think I'm just about approved for mine (fingers crossed!)

I have been using my US Citi AA credit card to buy AA Miles when the 50% off deal comes. Last one was at Thanksgiving. To get this card you would need a Social Security number which we have from 1984. We bought 300,000 AA Miles for four of us and 150,000 for two. We had currency at above 0.70 in our US Bank so that was handy. Earning AA miles off that credit card is sweet.
My son has started with a Bank of America credit card without a social security number and has developed a credi history after commencing with a deposit to cover his credit limit. His wife has a social security number from her work time in New York a decade ago.
Doing an Amex transfer to get a US Amex seems to work ok.
We tend to get deluged with credit card offers in our US mail.

The US offers keep getting better and better. Chase has just upped its sign-up bonus on the Ink cards from 110K UR to 115K UR when referring from friends/family. Can be converted 1:1 to Hyatt, British Airways, Air Canada, Singapore, etc etc. All for ~$AUD276 (ie $0.0024/pt) stemming from the 3% FTF.

A new card can be safely attained every 3 months if your spend allows. Delivered in a few days by courier to your door in Australia.

Nothing in Australia comes even close. God bless America('s banking system).

The reason for the generous perks off American credit cards is they charge the merchant much higher fees for transactions.

And long may that continue! Hoping this Durbin Bill never gets passed, as it would drive down interchange fees.

The fantastic part about it is our ability in Australia to get the best of both worlds.

We get the amazing perks of US credit cards without the competition from everyone else having access to the same cards (eg Hilton Diamond is useless in the US because everyone has it from the Aspire — not so here).

I do love the Hilton and Aspire FB Groups just full of people complaining about the diamond perks being worthless in the US while we're over here in Asia-Pac getting suite upgrades from entry level rooms and eating 2 meals a day in an Exec Lounge

Hi all, I wonder if I am to use myUS for forwarding services. Would I be able to open up one account and receive mails for both me and my partner? Or do I need 2 x accoutns for this, thanks.

Chase seems to be giving better SUBs for everything except CSP. I can't do the minimum spends for the Ink cards but I can do the $4000 if I time it with an overseas trip. They haven't done an 80k since I think May last year.

Amex is fighting back on the sign-up bonus front! Some of the best bonuses since the depths of COVID-19.

Platinum is 150K + $200 statement credit.

Gold is 90K + $200 statement credit.

Both available only through a referral (may need to try the referral link in multiple browsers/VPNs to get the highest point offer). Happy to send my links to anyone who is eligible and interested.

Got the 90k + $200 credit too.

Umming and ahhing about the plat, Resy’s offer for the plat is much better if one is able to hit the restaurant spend for 10x. If not, then this will definitely be the best for a while.

I got the 90k referral, but missed on the $200 credit :(

I am most excited to transfer my AU MR points to the US and then use their transfer partners. So much more value in converting across

Good morning everyone,

Today i was very happy to receive my ITIN no. (I used SH Studio from Fiverr website)
They messaged me overnight with the good news.
I applied for the ITIN with them on Dec 9th 2022. So, the entire process took about 12 weeks.

Good luck to you guys who have used SH Studio.
This is great. I was just waiting to hear a success story using SH Studio. Going to apply this weekend through them. Can't resist to ask - any referral discount?lol
