Strategy to obtain US Amex

Hi newbie GT here,

I just applied via Amex US website using the GT logged-in. It's my 1st US Global Transfer.
Here's the reply from the website & received the email 5 minutes after. Am I going to be ok?
(I have not call them yet)

Thanks

The website icon read; American Express IRIPS Conditional

Can we speak to you on the phone?

Please call us to talk to a Customer Care representative who will provide you with a decision. If we don't hear from you, we'll try to contact you within 2 to 3 days using the number you just provided in your application.
While we're reviewing your application, please don't submit another application for the The Platinum Card®.

Call Us: 1-(800)-221-4950

Then the email;

We're excited you've applied for a Card with American Express.
What to expect
We'll let you know as soon as we're done reviewing your application or if we need any additional information.

What you can do next
Keep an eye out for an update from us. In the meantime, don't apply for any other American Express Cards.
Update, they need to verify my identity and legal name. so the option was thru my US bank acc. So we did a three-way conference with my bank and all went successful, took about 5 minutes. Now the Amex new account rep said I should be receiving a decision via email as the executive team office is currently working on it. That's sound strange, any suggestion?

Thanks

Interesting experience for GT.

Hi guys, I just found this thread and am wondering should I commence doing what the guide is on the very first original post or is there an updated guide anywhere? thanks

I am wondering what is the first steps i need to take?

And is it worthwhile doing this long process in my case as I rarely if ever actually travel to the usa?

Thanks

Hi,

Is it possible to apply for a second Amex via GT? If so, do you login to your US account before doing it?

I can now see my FICO score but it’s still below Good - 664.

BTW how does one get their ITIN linked to their Amex? I heard of someone adding themselves as authorised users with their ITIN so they don’t have to post it to Amex. Has anyone here tried that?

Apply for GT via your Australian account. It'll either be immediately approved for flagged for review but they should be able to assess you based on your FICO score.

I wouldn't mess around adding yourself as an AU with your ITIN. Amex has confirmed that they cannot add an ITIN to a profile. ITIN is only one aspect of your credit profile and there are other data points that can match it.

I applied for my 3rd card with an ITIN and it still used my FICO score the soft enquiry was still lodged on my Equifax report.

If you have an ITIN, you can always apply for your 2nd card with it. Is there any reason why you're not applying with it if you have it?

Hi,

Haven’t used it yet because I thought I’d have a better chance of getting a second Amex via GT since my FICO score is just 664.

Also because I have seen here some people getting a second and even a third Amex via GT.

I reckon apply without GT and see if you get pre-approved. This will be a good way to see if you can get it without GT.

I've also noticed Amex has this new tool:

Maybe give this a go.

Send the IRS Letter to Amex and ask them to add it to your account.

After some time lurking and being satisfied with my Citi US Premier & Amex Green Card, I'm ready to launch into the world of US cards. I'm currently looking at ein-itin.com - does anyone have experience with these guys? From what I've read in this thread, I'll need an ITIN given that I don't have a SSN. The guy I'm chatting to on the ein-itin.com site also tells me I'll need an EIN in order to get ITIN and establishing an EIN will mean I'll need to establish a US LLC. Am I being given the right information or being led up the garden path?
You need the EIN way only if you want a US company. You can also get an ITIN without that. Read the explanation document of the W7 form from the IRS and they describe possible reasons to apply for an ITIN without the need to found a company or hand in a tax declaration right away.

No email please. I uploaded it via their upload portal together with my passport and a short letter: Log In to My Account | American Express US

As I didn't find the right category I marked it as "name change" and hoped that someone would take care anyway. After 1-2 days, it was attached to my account.
Looks like the "Document Center" has some issues at the moment - it's still linked in their FAQ, so I guess they will fix that:

How do you verify that it's been attached?

In my case the FICO8 score was suddenly available, which wasn't the 8-9 months before. Additionally, you can see the status of each submission in the document center. It changed to "completed". I also suddenly had the chance to look into the credit report of TransUnion for 1 day, which is available through Amex - unfortunately ITIN accounts are getting blocked very fast.

FICO8 under Amex? or via credit reporting agency? I wonder if it's a coincidence. I had FICO8 without ITIN at the 9 month mark so it makes me wonder.

I've read in multiple places that EQ/TU/EX all look at multiple points of verification when connecting you with your credit report. I was able to access EQ without my ITIN connected to Amex so just wondering if Amex has actually done anything.

As I said: three things happened.
1: FICO8 under Amex was available
2: TransUnion Credit Report was available for one day
3: Amex set the task on done
Maybe all a conincidence, but my first card appears in my credit report - so I'm fine with whatever happened.
