Strategy to obtain US Amex

From my experience it throws up a lot of red flags from fraud and one goes around in circles wrt verification .
Sounds like a rite of passage. What’s the best way to deal with this so your spend isn’t tied up for a long time and you can navigate what Chase’s requirements are to confirm it’s legit activity?

Not sure . Might be best to have first card forwarded .
I had to keep calling until I got an agent who asked questions I could answer .

FYI the answer to the question they ask you is mostly always no , never . Questions like how long have you lived , worked , had this card etc

They've probably frozen your accounts to stop people from stealing dead/disused SSN/ITINs. If you have details of your previous addresses and credit card accounts (they'll ask for this to confirm your identity), you should be able to gain access by calling.
Hey @levelnine , I never had any credit cards back then, I did have a bank account but no idea on the account or even bank and it was probably closed back then. I do have an old expired drivers license and know the addresses I lived at. Was only in the states for 10 months as a UNI intern on work placement. Do you reckon I should call one of the credit agencies to find out more about my SSN?

What do you usually tell the Chase guys in order to send the card to you in AU?
Travelling for business. They never ask any questions.
Can you activate the ink card online and load into Apple Pay / Google Pay or do you need the physical card to start spending?
No. Need the physical card. Can start using personal cards (eg Sapphire) right away if you have the Chase app, as you can load to Apple pay through there, but not with the business cards.
not if you have not had a card with them previously . From my experience it throws up a lot of red flags from fraud and one goes around in circles wrt verification . Best avoided . Works for subsequent cards .
I had my first ever Chase card sent straight to me in Australia, so YMMV. Will always need to answer some identity questions when phoning to get the card sent overseas. For subsequent cards, it is easier because you can message through the app, where they don't ask any identity questions.

Did you ever get a SSN? If you do have a SSN, you may need to contact the IRS to find out the number, not sure a credit agency will give it to you.

I applied last night for the Ink Preferred. It wasn't instantly approved. I think this is the first time I've had a manual review for a US card.

From what I've read recently, it's increasingly rare to be approved instantly for Chase business cards.

People advise at least wait 48 hours before calling up.

That is a good advice. I think it's better to wait a bit until someone looks at your app and gives some updates. It could take longer than 48 hours. I called Chase quite early each time on my first 3 apps. The first 2 was basically the next day and the thrid one (biz) was a week after no update. While I got approved each time, I got the extra HP on every single one of them. Called recon 2 times on my 4th app (biz) and ended up with 3 HPs and still a denial. I really hate calling Chase.

What's an HP?

Dumb question, but for the 5/24 rule, does it include Amex charge card?

I just applied for another iTIN and have applied for 3 Amex cards via GT over last 4 months (2 credit and 1 charge). What visa/MC should I be applying for before I go crazy with heaps (as I have no issues hitting lots and lots of min spend)?

While I absolutely do not doubt this happened to you, this is extremely rare. I've never seen that happen to anyone else before. I'm on multiple US churning forums/discords/etc with tens of thousands of users and never seen that reported before. I'd be confident in saying that in 99% of cases recon does not result in an additional HP.

I always call recon immediately after applying and get approved with a short 5 min call, most of which is verifying my ID. Done this a dozen+ times now & never had a second HP.

Yes they do. Anything that appears on your credit file counts, which means pretty much any personal card that have some sort of borrowing facility (even store cards).

There are some ie in DoC comments. The funny thing is they talked about asking Chase to remove pretty easily. I guess it was those that got double pulls by mistake. I asked them once and they said they wouldn't as it was normal lol (someone said the same as well). I got the second one after I called each time.

Maybe I'm just one of the few unlucky. As I said previously, they seemed to have some issue with my ITIN. That could be the cause and they had to do the extra pull to verify. Thankfully the last 3 HPs were done on Ex only.

Not a huge number of DPs in the comments there, but you're correct that you're definitely not the only one. That's very unlucky. Agree that issues with your ITIN may be the cause.

I'm also interested in what to expect with accessing my Aspire card when it arrives.

Do I need to create a new Amex login or will it integrate with my existing Amex AU login? And will it show up in the Amex AU app or do I need to download the Amex US app? (If so it looks like I'll need change my Gmail address temporarily or create a login for the US Play Store?)
Hey I was wondering how folks have been able to download US banking apps onto their android devices? Do you need to create a new USA payment profile? If so will this switch your playstore account to USA permanently or for 12 months at least, I have had this issue recently with a different country? What is the best way to do this.

I created a second throwaway Gmail address set to USA, signed into the Play Store with the second account (you can sign into multiple accounts simultaneously) then downloaded the Amex app. I can't speak for other banking apps.
