Strategy to obtain US Amex

Fascinating re travel bank.

I've sometimes had it trigger for AS award tickets but it's a bit hit an missing. Worked sporadically last year but nothing this year yet.

United travel bank is really the only well known option that works if it isn't an incidental up to this point. Hot topic on US travel sites ;)

However for AA it does look like booking a discount ticket and then paying for a higher fare class later on for some extra SCs (fare difference fee) does work, but it looks like a hassle. Have seen reports that MCE purchases do work.

Chase have a promo currently where one can get upto $900 for opening a checking and savings account and carrying out qualifying activities .
However when I click on link it says I need to visit branch to qualify( for id ) .
Does anyone have experience with this ?
Is it worth visiting a branch on the next visit to US ?

I have the same offer. I don’t think I can afford it because there are fees if you don’t maintain a minimum balance.

Trying to get our first Gt Amex. Amex called and asked what address we want to provide for the application. Might be a silly question but do we use the US address or our Australia one?

I assume it should be our US address. thanks

If they have given you an option and you want to receive card in oz instead of having it forwarded you could use oz one . They did ask .

… Amex called and asked what address we want to provide for the application …
The address for the application would be the US address I would expect. But you would have already provided that when you originally applied.

I have received 4 x Amex cards by GT, applying on-line, but have never received a call to follow-up the address.

Which card is it that you have applied for?

The Green card.

Apparently yes, it's my wife's application, she took the call.

I have the Green card and am pretty happy with it. I'm considering playing the "upgrade/downgrade" game. Just logged into AMEX US portal. I can see I have an upgrade offer to Platinum for 25,000 points. That's not enough to excite me. There was an upgrade path to gold - I can't see that anymore but it appears that was for 15,000 points. Have I missed something? I'm happy to hold Green and do nothing otherwise as for the AF, these aren't very attractive offers.

Ah. So it was a call from Amex regarding delivery of the card rather than regarding the application that had been submitted

You could always phone Amex to see if better offers are available, if you are keen enough 😉

They may not be able to see any of course

Good idea. Might do that tonight. Nothing to lose :)

I’m in pop up jail when I tried to apply using a referral link from another member of this thread to apply for the Gold Card.

Hmm not sure if It was an option per se, Iam worried they will decline the app if she gives our Aus address?
It all sounds a bit ‘unusual’ insofar as they are asking about where to send the card and the application has not even been approved as yet.

I can say that I’ve never been provided with this option. The card just gets sent to the US address that I provided in the card application. I’m watching with interest.

Now they are asking for SSN. Starting to wonder if how we applied is the correct GT method. We logged into her AMEX AU account, changed country to USA, searched for the Green card and applied...

Let them know you don’t have an ssn as you are new to the US and maybe definitely provide your US address .

Think they dropped the SSN but are asking for verification of the address. Can I get this from our HSBC premier accounts we setup for the USA (no money / transactions in those accounts yet)? sorry this is our first time doing this so noobs
