Strategy to obtain US Amex

Applied and seemed to go through just needed to verification of address. Need to contact them to verify. Hopefuly just as simple as others have had.
Hey how did you end up applying if the personal cards link isnt working? I have been trying for a few weeks and joy with that personal cards link.

Does anyone know if you need to retain your AUS Amex after acquiring a US amex via GT? I.e do you access your US Amex online via the same login and do you lose access if you close your AUS Amex for example..
I am probably not right person to answer as I am very new to all this too but my understanding was I had to apply for a new login and password for my US account - it will be seperate to my AU account - no reason why you can't use the same login details I assume. In theory the global transfer is for people moving to another country so easy to close current AU account - I am not planning on closing mine - I like options and no idea what will happen in future

No. I currently have no AU Amex cards as I'm waiting out my 18 month exclusion period. Didn't affect any of my US Amex cards, including the first one acquired via GT.

I have 2 different profiles, one for Australian Amex and one for US Amex. I use different browsers for each.

I had originally got a email to create an account but I didn't receive a code in time - now when I try to use the link I get an error - spoke to customer service and I need the physical card now to create an account.

More hurry up and wait for me

Don’t need to retain but why close when you can transfer Mr points across once per year ?
Can’t use same log in .

I was deliberating on what the best AU AMEX was to get right now as a gateway into the US Amex.

The platinum is expensive but can get 225k points and probably offset most of the cost in the other benefits (Accor plus (free night / discounts), 400 dining credits, 450 travel credit) so was thinking ill get the Plat and cancel to avoid the 1450 renewal without the bonus points and then potentially churn it again after 18 months. Was also considering the explorer as its cheaper.

I decided to go for the Plat and applied and got the immediate approval last night without providing any payslips or anything.

Hi, sorry if this has been replied to before. I requested points transfer last week from AU MR to US MR - the FX rate continues to deteriorate and haven't seen any points move yet. How long does this take?

Don't worry it will take about a week

Was 3 working days last month when I transferred

With the 5/24, if I am at 4 and apply for a chase card, then that will bring me to 5. If I apply for another card, does chase she this as 6 or because I already have a chase card, they then disregard the 5/24 rule?

Hope that makes sense

Chase would regard this as 6. You might want to apply for biz cards as they don’t count for 5/24 though you need to be under 5/24 to be approved .

Does having plat or explorer have any bearing on the result of the GT? I currently have the Amex Qantas Ultimate card, would that be any worse for GT than any other card?

I am sure this is answered upthread but there are so many pages and I wouldn't know where to start to find the answer!

It's very unlikely that someone on this forum knows the inner workings of exactly what Amex Australia shares when you apply for a GT, how the Amex US creditworthiness algorithm interprets that information, and even less likely they'd share such sensitive information publicly.

The exact products you hold may play a small part, but I expect would be less important than the length of your relationship with Amex, your payment history, your spending patterns, and various other lending risk factors.

Great, that's helpful to know thank you

@albyd Can I ask what the benefit of transferring AU MR to US MR be?
