Strategy to obtain US Amex

The run around from chase continues.

Last month they declined my application by stating that there was no credit report. So I waited until my equifax credit report updated and called them today. Now they want 3 months of bank statements showing my income. This is so much effort :(

How did you access your Equifax report? Did you request a hardcopy or you signed up for an online account?

I have been using core credit from Equifax for quite a while now .

That’s because they could not identify you . They may send a letter to your add

I used a mail forwarding address as my mailing address with my AMEX and Capital One accounts. That would show up in my credit reports right ? (When the credit agencies ask for my address, i can just use my mailing address to identify myself right ?)

Final days of points earned on the Hilton Amex cards contributing towards base points it looks like. The tier systems are going back to pre-COVID times. It does contribute towards LTD, which is 2m base points or 1000 nights!

How long have you had your ITIN and have you applied for anything else?

Remember you're only seeing equifax. Depending on your address, Chase may pull Experian or Transunion more than others which may or may not have your records.

Question: If you get an ITIN, do you become liable for taxes in the US? Eg if you use stock brokerages etc you're always asked to do a W8-BEN to verify that you're not liable for taxes in the US? This would obviously be a big problem for many I assume? Does anyone know? I assume no given that you could get an ITIN to declare gambling wins in Vegas

I have had it for 3 months. I have applied using a mail forwarder address so I could get mail scanned to me. I was worried if I applied with my myUS address, they would send me a letter and then they would throw it out and I wouldn't be able to see it.

I really should ask one of my friends, but its a weird thing to ask :/

Update: Called Chase and after being passed around to several different areas eventually the Fraud department tried to verify me. Short-code text predictably didn't work as I only have textnow paid service so they asked random questions including how long had I worked for company x and how long had I lived at address x. I answered "never" to both questions. Then the rep stated they would review my application and I would know of the decision in 1-2 Weeks by mail. I suspect it's a denial since I was never asked for supporting documents to send although the automated message still indicates the first letter is a request for additional documents.
UPDATE: Email received today - Chase Sapphire Preferred card APPROVED. As a dp for others this was my experience.; Apologies for the long post but thought I should provide a little more detail about the process .

-Applied on 02DEC. Got the usual message about application being reviewed. Called automatic status line a couple of days later and got the 7-10 days message due to documents for verification.
-Roughly 7 days later I called again this time to speak to a rep to find out more information as the letter had not arrived in myUS suite (I have the postal mail service as well). They could not identify me at first. Eventually I was passed to the fraud department who identified me using random questions to which the answer was "never". Told my application was being reviewed and I would know of a decision within 7-10 days but did not mention waiting on documents. At this point I was assuming it was a denial.
-I called again to speak with a rep who seemed much more competent as he found my application straight away and told me it was declined due to requiring additional information. He then said he could find out what documents were required and I could submit them but I would need to be transferred to another department. He transferred me to fraud department again who this time struggled to verify me (textnow number did not work for verification again) or find my application. The fraud rep then gave me a number to call for the card applications department, but I had missed the cutoff for the day by 10 mins.
-The following morning I called the number I was given and this time the rep found my application straight away. Again could not verify me using textnow number so asked a couple more random questions to which the answer was "never" again. Then she said I was verified. She advised they needed to verify my ITIN and then she advised they also needed to verify name, DOB and address. She advised bank statement, ITIN letter and passport would be sufficient. She sent an email with a secure link and I uploaded the documents.
-Several hours later I checked the automated status and it had changed from 7-10 days to 2 weeks which usually means a good chance at approval. Not even 24 hours later received an email from Chase saying I had been approved.

Only question now is can Chase expediate my first Chase card and send to Aus if I don't have an account with them yet?

Can be done . May throw up more fraud alters though . Was thought getting my first card in Oz . Subsequent ones were smooth .

Yeah that's a bit complicated. Does Equifax have your new address? I'm assuming there is some address mismatch causing the issue.

Might be best to update your address and take a seat for a few months and wait.

I'm so glad to be wrong and you got through with persistence! Like blacksultant said, it's possible to get it sent to Aus but it might not be worth the runaround and stress of calling up. I had the card expedited to my mail forwarder which I had sent to Aus. Always worthwhile to keep things simple the first time around.

On another note, I had my Amex Biz Gold flagged for fraud for the first transaction. It was 240 AUD. Had to call up and get verified. Was a bit annoying but simple enough I guess.
