Strategy to obtain US Amex

Just wondering if anyone has applied for a supplementary card for the Amex green card. My partner is already a supplementary card holder for my nz Amex plat. What is the process for supplementary US Amex card obtained via global transfer.

Your post encouraged me to go ahead and apply for a supp card for my wife connected to my US Aspire card obtained via GT a couple of years ago.

I did the whole thing through live chat and it was very painless. I made it clear from the beginning that my wife doesn't have an SSN/ITIN and I wanted to use a passport, which was fine:

They didn't require an upload of the passport page, instead requested the name, DOB, passport number, issue date, expiry date, and issuing place via a live chat 'secret question'.

Took all of about 5 minutes. I did ask if the card could be shipped overseas but was told it could only go to the address on file.

They did say it would be sent via USPS First Class, so I'm expecting it to never reach my MyUS suite. I will follow up after 10 days and request it be sent to Australia.

Does anyone know if the 3x MR earn on travel with the Us Amex green card includes airfares booked on air nz and qantas?
I haven't done those in particular recently, but certainly I frequently buy VA tickets on my US Amex Gold and earn 3x.

There was some discussion about US supps earlier this month - the supplementary card form asks for an SSN/ITIN but apparently you can request one with a passport via live chat.

Thanks, sorry missed that one. It would be good if this thread was split up a bit. It's the longest thread I've ever come across on a miles and points forum...

I was comparing fees yesterday for Wise vs IBKR( which is what I use)
the fee to transfer 10k AUD on wise was A$48 vs A$4 on IBKR..if you end up spending a lot on US amex you should look at setting up an account with interactive brokers or any such brokerage firm which offers this option.
Are you trading spot currency to get the AUD to USD conversion as a method of FX?
If it is indeed on the lower cost post-commission and fees for that method, then it is certainly more attractive than Wise and Revolut. It seems that they draw you in with the ease of use and once you're in the system - they just squeeze you for money.

Yes, its at spot rate. They offer a simple option of converting AUD to USD at spot rate...

Thanks for this maverick1. Very helpful.
If I open a IBKR account can I buy usd and then pay my us amex card from that account? I noticed the Wise fees are creeping up.
Not sure if you can pay Amex directly. I transfer USD to my Amex checking account...

heads-up guys Amex Hilton Business has just been refreshed...
Annual Fee is now 195; massive 175k SUB with US$240 hilton credit split into $60 quarter.

They've completely ruined this card with the higher AF and removal of FNCs.

But if you already have one of these cards and have somewhere you can send US mail, you can redeem the quarterly Hilton credit by buying physical gift cards: https://www.buyhiltongiftcards.com/

Be careful, the website is super fraud sensitive. All details need to match otherwise they'll can your GC order.

And they got rid of the Priority Pass. The quarterly credits are just too hard for travelers who do one or two big trips a year. Lounge access was a more attractive benefit to me than any of the hotel benefits.

Yes, all airlines - 3x on Green and 7x on Hilton Aspire, as Sudoer mentioned. Green I've also never had any issues with any other travel/transit posting at 3x, with the exception of Apple Pay topups of ICOCA card (Japanese Myki, essentially) and Intercontinental Grand Stanford (which for some reason codes as a restaurant, so I'll use Gold there in future).

Agree, the quarterly credits are annoying, but better than me sticking $250 into United each year that I still have yet to use. One day. That said I fly almost if not monthly at least, so no issues using the credits.

Interesting one re popup jail for me. I've been trying to GT myself the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card, but get popup jail every time (for months now). This is directly via the Amex website. Not sure what could be the reason.

Anyway, when applying for the Gold via Resy, I was surprised to get no popup jail. Obviously no Bonvoy card for me yet, but might be an option for someone in jail who is looking for another MR card (Green, Gold, Plat available, generally with better SUB).

Once you've gotten more than 1 or 2 Amex cards, you're at risk of being in popup jail. It is pretty random — whether you'll get hit with it varies from person to person, card to card, offer to offer. There are plenty of oddities. My partner got a 200K Biz Plat a few weeks ago after being denied for a 190K Biz Plat just a few weeks earlier.

I too have been in PUJ for personal cards, been trying to get Aspire & Brilliant for overa month now w/o success...but yestdy found this comment about using the NLL link for aspire and it worked...got approved straightaway...
NLL link for all 3 Hilton Personal cards is posted on DOC website...

So it appears I was wrong.

I received the $50 Statement Credit from Amex :).

It just takes up to 2 weeks, sorry for the scare.
I just got the aspire card yesdty and ordered some Tequila from QW to hopefully meet the March quarter credit...
currently the charge is pending but the vendor name is Qantas Store AU. Is that how it posted for you and others? And has anyone tried buying Qantas $50/100 Gift voucher and received the US$50 credit?

They indeed have. I'll be closing this card on its 1st anniversary...going to maximise the possible credits. prepaid some of upgrade costs for a stay in July yesterday hopefully get 60 back in March Quarter and then have requested to prepay some in April quarter.
The 15k spend FNC is available till 30th June. I'm half through the spend requirement so will definitely try to get the cert.

Calling back to the discussion recently about airlines coding for 3x on Green (or in my case, Gold), we've covered a lot of them (VA/AA/DL/UA/AV/AC/SQ for my datapoints, QF confirmed by @sudoer, probably others).

Has anyone confirmed European LCCs? I have a couple of short EU flights with friends who unlike me are not points autists, and there are some flights which are likely to be EasyJet or possibly Wizz or Transavia. (I imagine the latter will be fine because it's essentially AF/KL.) Can anyone confirm EasyJet pays out at 3x?

That's great! I've tried some of the NLL links before, but they've always required Nova using ITIN/SSN, so when I saw the checkbox allowing other forms of ID the dopamine rush was real 🤣

This makes sense, my second is less than 12 months old (although first is older), so maybe I was being impatient. Being approved for the third definitely won't help me in that case, so I think I'll give it a rest for now (plus I'm approaching the end of the waiting window for some Aussie cards, so can concentrate on those for a while to keep myself occupied!).

BA has triggered it, I haven't tried the LCCs, but don't see why they wouldn't - anything that codes as airline?
