Strategy to obtain US Amex

I remember getting a letter from IRS
about payment being late in September 2022 and paying without creating an account (I got my ITIN in 2022).

Haven’t received anymore letters since then.

Should I create an account and check if I’m going to be arrested in the US border during my next holiday? 😬
The same happened with me . Was the tax payment required a consequence of itin application ?

Has anybody received the Form 1099INT from Amex about interest earned on their Business Checking account, or for any bank bonuses received? Looking for any tips on how to go about filing it as this also helps keep the ITIN active.
Yes, I did.
I paid US$26 tax. Filled an online form for free, it is a bit lengthy but most of the questions can be skipped.

Although liable for a late filing penalty, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be applied. I submitted a late filing (about 6 months late, for the year ending 31/12/22 (about $40 owing, as part f the ITIN process) and the IRS never followed up with any interest/ penalty

Just applied for Chase IHG Biz. Been about 12 hours and I receive this notification via the automated line and I've heard something new.

thank you for applying. we sent you a letter dated requesting for documents. it can take 7-10 business days for you receive it in the mail. please respond with additional details requested in the letter so we can proceed with your application.

I've read only 1 similar DP on reddit but there wasn't any other details. I'll wait 48 hours before calling or taking any action but has anyone heard such a response from the automated line? Usually its 7-10 business days, 2 weeks or 30 days.

Not sure if you can pay Amex directly. I transfer USD to my Amex checking account...
So you can transfer AUD directly in from an Aus bank account, convert to USD, then transfer directly to USA bank account? I have setup an account with them. There was an option for location country of account, I chose an Australian account, unsure if I should have chosen a USA one...

Same thing happened to me recently.

I have existing chase cc, so got a letter in chase app. Basically saying your identity has been hacked, to confirm it’s you call 877 470 9042 (chase verification team). I called and they asked to upload passport, ITIN letter and Amex bank statement. Then it was approved. (Even tho I already have an account with chase)

How soon after did you receive your letter on your app? I still haven't received anything via the App.

Just checked my emails, applied on 11/3/24 and got the “you received a new letter” on the 21/3/24.

If you can’t wait, can always call up and ask for expedite review via the fraud team.

Thanks for the advice.

I ended up calling in case it was fraud verification. It ended up being a W-9 request which I provided over the phone when they transferred me to the security team. Ended up being approved for the IHG Business Card.

For those who have been requested the W-9 by Chase, I recommend calling and see if you can provide it to them over the phone. They normally transfer you to the security team and read a disclaimer then they assess your application on the spot.

Edit: It seems like they can't expedite co-branded cards so they couldn't do it :(

What are your DP on getting approved with Chase.

I'm at 11 months on credit history, has Chase checking and savings account and got denied for Chase IHG with reconsideration, no go.

I've only been denied by Chase twice and approved 4 times. 1st time I was denied was for personal WOH where I was at the 12 month mark. I assumed that this was a credit report issue. I waited to about the 14-15 month mark and was approved for CSP. I tried to apply for the IHG card in June of the same year and was refused.

All subsequent cards were approved since then. You will need to wait till 13-15 month worth of credit history to be on the safe side. You can try 12 but expect to be denied.

Question for all: When I login, it says that I've been pre-approved for cards. But when I click them, it doesn't load and errors out. Any ideas?

Pre-approved offers for cards mean absolutely nothing — they don't mean that you'll actually be approved if you apply. So I wouldn't worry about them. My dog gets pre-approved offers in the mail (I once signed them up as an authorised user for a card to get a bonus.)

I opened my account a few years ago so reckon would have chosen AU account...you can easily add a USD account as long as the account name matches...once added you will see the option to transfer money in/out for both the USD & AUD account...

I applied for Ink Preferred and have been asked to fax W9....don't know how to go about it...
Call and ask them to verify your ITIN over the phone.

Edit: I've done some research over the past few days regarding the W9 form and it looks like Canadians in a similar situation just submit it.

If you're asking to confirm over the phone, just mention that you've previously been informed that it was possible to validate an ITIN over the phone with the security team and can you please be transferred to them. Or something to that effect.

I actually called them and gave my ITIN for pulling the application but they still asked to send W9...is it a case of HUCA?

Yep. I gave the specific wording above in my edited segment. Sometimes they willingly prompt you but sometimes they can be a bit more difficult.

I'm not sure if things area bit different since I'm an existing Chase customer.

Edit: Also has it been more than 30 days? I believe applications only last for 30 days? Once it's lapsed, you'll need to re-apply.
