Strategy to obtain US Amex

Applied over the phone, have been approved and it is in the app but no card or email saying card on its way

I had a look at IBKR and I THINK they charge a minimum of USD2.20 per forex trade? But this is also just their 0.22bp x maximum trade value, so I may be misreading.

Doing a quick lookup revolut vs oanda.com for mid market rate, I got 1000 Aud for 675.98 vs 679.xx for a savings of approx 3.5 AUD or 0.35%. If the ibkr rate is just 0.22bp and not AUD2.2 per trade (although even at AUD2.2 it is still cheaper) this is a small but measurable saving every month.

I would have thought that when you buy currency on IBKR, you are trading just like when you buy TSLA or something. Surely that should count as trading and not lead to account closure?
How long did approval take? I applied over phone last Monday and signed the docusign. Heard nothing yet and nothing showing in account. I did have a missed delivery from DHL though yesterday which I think might be the Premier Debit Card

For those with the HSBC US account - how long before you can generate a statement? I changed my address but am unable to generate a statement on the new account yet.

Also applied for a Chase card. In hindsight I may let the application fizzle out so I can apply for a Business card first to keep under the 5/24. Is it difficult to open a Chase Biz card without any history or business cards previously (I just got my ITIN a week ago)? The Chase Ink is 120k until 5th Sept. In terms of verification do they accept Wise or will I need to use a HSBC bank statement? I seem to be in PUJ for most AMEX charge cards and Hilton cards
Will need to make a transaction and wait for normal statement closing date .
You can ask RM to issue a letter

You need to call the US premier line. They will tell you the application was declined because you didn't provide some arbitrary documents. Then they will give you instructions on how to provide the documents.

Oh. Really? I already called them last week. They didn’t ask for anything. Just sent me a docusign to fill out and return which I did

I applied online, too. But got an email from HSBC US, asking for RM to add me to GCD, or a RM letter. I contacted HSBC AU but seems like they don't know how to do it. Did you got similar request?
I got asked a lot of questions about my income (similar to some threads here a while back), but answered satisfactorily (They said paying off CC's is not a valid reason for opening, so then I just said it was for discretionary payments to family and friends in US and that was fine). I have also never met my Premier obligations in AU. They pointed this out to me ("We can't find you in the directory"). I transferred 9k AUD into the AU account and asked them to try again, and all was fine from therein. Those were the only sticking points for me.

Remind me what the need for a US HSBC statement with address is commonly used for here? I haven't had a need for this yet, wondering if I should for future use.

Address verification .

Hi Guys, I wonder with 1583 form notarization. Do you need to do a notarization for all names we are receiving in the mail box, or just the primary user is fine. I am planning to list my partner's name there as well (global mail). thank you.

I think the primary user name is enough. But feel free to email them. They reply very quickly and are pretty helpful.

Does this mean my Maza ITIN request is fully submitted? Or do they still need to do something with the Submission Form?

Seemed to be in PUJ for all charge cards and the elevated offers. Tried numerous links for the platinum and gold business cards, including incognito / VPN and different browsers only to be hit up with the usual PUJ banner. Yesterday applied through a VPN and the points guy link for a biz plat 200k (20k usd spend) and got through! It didn't auto approve but AMEX requested a copy of my ITIN and photo ID via phone which I submitted. Fingers crossed it goes through!

Yeah between different bills I’ll cover it. You can use it to pay the ATO for your tax bills too.

Phoned Amex to check my application - they said needed to confirm name and address which I did. They then said need to provide a utility bill for that address or connect to a bank which is registered at that address. But I gave a MyUS address. Should I apply again and use my Australian address? (It was a Global Transfer for the Hilton Surpass)

Do not use your Oz address - remember you have relocated to the US!

Wise has worked for some in the past. It's been more of a miss as of late and I've read up that some people have had accounts closed when changing their address (on Wise). You can try that if they knock that back wait until HSBC statement arrives.
Use your HSBC bank statement or be creative

I received an upgrade offer to the gold card from the green card this morning with 90k bonus points and $325 USD AF, I was planning to just keep the green card there to build my credit history, but it appears to be a good offer, not sure if there are any downsides to it?

I was also planning to apply for the Marriott Brilliant as my 2nd card, but I forgot to do this before I cancelled my Aus amex so I can't go the GT route anymore. Currently waiting for my ITIN from Maza, and no SSN. So I'm wondering what the best option would be. I'm thinking it would be to either call and apply or wait for my ITIN to come through first. Would it be better to apply for the new Brilliant before I upgrade the green or the other way around?
