Strategy to obtain US Amex

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I did that step at all, I just direct all my mail to the US GM address. I think that is only if you have mail going to the other address, then USPS will ship it all to the new one.

Yes that was my thoughts - I think it doesnt really apply to me

The only US mail I have is Amex to MyUS and I want to get a longer term option to get other cards etc so will plan on updating Amex address to new address and then nothing else to redirect

I have a debit and platinum card - not sure if I should try and get new ones sent there or wait a month or so before updating

For people who have an Amex Checking account could they get the Debit card posted to Australia?

I will have a platinum and the debit and was hoping I might call in 2 weeks and try to get both sent here
Yes confirmed - had the debit card posted to Australia with no problems. I waited the 10 days before reaching out via online chat. Can't remember now though if having an existing credit card helped smooth the process.

A data point on Chase Ink Preferred. I applied for my 4th card, 4 months or so after my 3rd. In the gap I had closed my first card.

I was referred to the fraud team. After clearing that I was asked for proof of tax, ID and address. After sending g those through I was flagged by fraud again. I called up today and was told my application had been denied.

A friend has had a similar issue applying for his 3rd card. Not sure if they have changed their approval criteria.

P2 got approved for Cap1 to build Credit history with ITIN, Called to asked for card to be sent Australia. Got transferred to different team and took about 30 min the incompetent rep asked to call back during business hour for the right team to process. Very frustrating.

I have been using my Cap 1 card that I got forwarded by my relative for 6 months. To Test the water, I called to asked for card replacement to be sent to Aus, was transferred to many rep / specialist v.v. took over 30 min to process and got advised it would take 4-6 weeks for card to be delivered.

So, it's not easy process for Cap1 to send card oversea.

Anyone signed up for Amex checking account recently and got approved instantly? Not sure if thigns have changed or they would approved instantly if they see ITIN in a credit file.
I did this week - application approved in 12 hours - I had a 13 month history with Amex Green via GT and got ITIN about 10 months ago - was waiting for FICO score to appear prior to applying but that didn't happen so I figured it was more than a year and was succesful with Amex Checking and Amex Platinum in 24 hours each

It's tough - don't they know we want to make it easier for us "digital" US Citizens who are living a nomad lifestyle to continue using the services ;)
Plus P2 does not make it easier for me as well. So if I dont have to, never involve P2 in these processes. Wish I can pretend to be P2 easily. Is there an app to change voice? ;)

It’s the reason why I don’t involve P2 too. It’s so hard to explain and then get them to call and say the right words, they are looking at me how do I answer
Not worth it

Cap 1 is a problem child even for normal US citizens.

I was thinking about walking into a branch and applying for a Venture X so I could alleviate any fraud issues in person......until I found out they have only a few actual branches and none in SEA or PDX which is where I will be next month.

Cap 1 Cafe ?

Is the issue with Cap 1 only the 2fa when overseas, or do they just fraud block you for everything overseas, even like $0.8 soft serve cone at McDonalds?

I haven't had an issue getting HSBC 2fa on Tello yet. Have had to do their 2fa on online purchases, even small ones, e.g. 600 yen (approx 6 AUD)

I was honestly thinking of working towards Cap 1 SavorOne and VentureOne for $0 annual fee, 3x on groceries forever. Very low minimum spend needed, but if even small purchases get flagged this obviously isnt going to work.
