Strategy to obtain US Amex

Is the issue with Cap 1 only the 2fa when overseas, or do they just fraud block you for everything overseas, even like $0.8 soft serve cone at McDonalds?

I haven't had an issue getting HSBC 2fa on Tello yet. Have had to do their 2fa on online purchases, even small ones, e.g. 600 yen (approx 6 AUD)

I was honestly thinking of working towards Cap 1 SavorOne and VentureOne for $0 annual fee, 3x on groceries forever. Very low minimum spend needed, but if even small purchases get flagged this obviously isnt going to work.
I've just got my rejection letter from C1 for they reckon they need US issued govt ID so will look to try to get a NY state non drivers' ID when I'm there in January and try again. I'm thinking though, if I'm planning to use it as a my "general purpose" card (with the AUDUSD exchange rate where it is, it works out to be as good an earn as AU Amex Platinum without merchants getting the crucifix out to deny Amex acceptance.

If it's going to be a pain to use, I might just leave it. Keen to hear about DPs in relation to using the C1 Venture in AU.

I also tried to get my free credit report form TU - I keep getting the following error message:

Errors:

Keen to hear if others have encountered this issue. My ITIN's 1st 3 digits are in the 900-999 range. Assuming there are others there with this issue. Did you get through and get your credit report or just gave up?

The benefits of SavorOne/VentureOne vs Amex Platinum are
- MC/Visa vs Amex
- no $1450 AF (!!!) forever
- better transfer partners

Do you have a NY address or are you using a service which Cap1 doesn't recognise as a CRMA in NY?

Is it not much better to get -Venture X/Savor combo?

Does anyone know if the text now paid plan works for C1 verification ?

My Tello no does not work with C1 ? Does it take time for it to be recognized as registered to my name ?

Is it a new Tello number

When I changed to Tello, Amex recognised it pretty much straight away
I don’t have any other accounts yet so can’t comment if other companies recognise it

Both Tello and Textnow work for me with regards to C1.

Did you fill out the address for e911 calls on your Tello profile? Tello won't work if there is no address there.

i have filled out e91 . This new Tello no is not recognized as being registered to me when I try to change previous no on my locked C1 profile to reactivate same .

Yes it is a new no . Care to elaborate about Amexes recognition process ?
I started with a Talkatone number and then organised a new number via Tello. When I changed my number to my Tello number in Amex profile it was recognised and I was able to use that to make myself verified

I remember when I first setup my Tello number there was an issue using MyUS as the e911 address so I just looked up an apartment for sale in Miami and I entered that number into the e911 slot and it suddenly worked fine

Im about to open an HSBC US Premier Checking acct...I have HSBC Premier in Australia and will initially use my Australian address on the US account...at some point I need to change the address to an US one (have a relative in US) so that i can have a bank statement with a US address when I do a Global Transfer and open an US Amex account...is it just a matter of changing the address in the US HSBC account on the website, or do I need some form of ID with an US address (which I do not have!) to do so. Any other gotchas I should be aware of? Thanks for any advice.

I dont have the HSBC accounts so can't comment on that but you dont need a US bank statement to open a GT AMEX - mostly it uses your Australian relationship with Amex as the basis for the application.
Having a relative in US with a proper address puts you one step ahead of many of us who have to use mail forwarder. They may even be able to setup a proper SIM for you in US and then post it out pre authorised and ready to go

I understand Amex US may ask you to verify your US address...a US HSBC bank statement with a US address can fulfill this requirement...that is my understanding.

Considered avianca ?
I can't get their miles. I'm PUJ'd out of Amex and I am too nervous about Cap 1 and Citi fraud over-zealousness. I'm only doing Chase for the time being. I'm getting towards the end of my travel hacking career anyways. I've been backpacking since the 80's, churning USA cards since mid-2000's and been almost everywhere, getting older and less stamina. I just had a few more bucket lists to tick, then going to stick to Pacific Islands, road trips and maybe cruises. I would miss Turkiye more than any of my other destinations.
