Strategy to obtain US Amex

How to activate Wi-Fi Calling on your Tello phone?

↪ To activate Wi-Fi Calling on iPhones go to Settings → Cellular → Wi-Fi Calling → Toggle on Wi-Fi Calling.

↪ To activate Wi-Fi Calling on Android phones, you’ll generally find Wi-Fi settings under Settings → Networks & Internet → Mobile network → Advanced → Wi-Fi Calling → Toggle on Wi-Fi Calling.

from here What is Wi-Fi Calling and how does it work?

So both of us are on Apple - works irrespective of network - must be an Android workaround I hope
Had WiFi calling enabled
Esim activated
No roaming
Purchased data for coming us trip
Unlimited calls and text
Still unable to call my other us numbers

What else do I need to do? I'm on Android

Just confirming you have E911 address on profile
Also when you go to call other US number do you select to call via the Tello number option - on Iphone my default is that it calls from AU number esim so i have to select the other esim to make sure it uses the Tello one to call US numbers

Receive SMS Online | Free SMS Verifications - can also use something like to check you can receive numbers from US to you tello sim - toggle wifi on and off to see if it works with data

I am 90% sure this is just an Android issue. Voice over 2nd sim needs Dual Sim Always On or w/e it is called now. Android and Apple have different implementations of this.

See screenshot. Pressing the on button does not work, so I can't use Vo2ndsim

Roaming is disabled in my Tello account unless I have data.

Dual sim Always On works with 2x AU sim and even in EU it worked with 1x AU and 1x EU sim. Not working in AU with tello.

Reporting on my new Tello adventure: After playing around with it, now it's working on wifi calling even when my Telstra sim is on. But not working with my Telstra data if I turn wifi off. The outstanding issue now is porting my talkatone number to Tello, as I dont have the brain capacity to remember another number. Too many things on my mind already. 😂

After reading upthread that some people have successfully applied for a second (and third GT) soon after their first, I tried for my second (Hilton Honors) today.

Was auto-rejected ("you will receive a letter within 10 days explaining our decision").

I perhaps jumped the gun a bit (about two weeks since my first GT, a green, and so I have not paid it off yet, and I have a large Aus platinum payment due soon)...

What's the recommended wait time before trying again ?

3 months on a safe side.

You can't GT more than once. This is a soft block - you can use the interface all you like, it still won't be a GT on the back end.

You were denied because you don't have enough US credit history. Because they can only use US credit history after the first GT during assessment.

Two weeks? Some months, or so, would probably have been better for the next GT. Patience Grasshopper.

Edit: I’ve seen suggested 90 days to 6 months, but I’ve waited for over 6 months in between cards

Please explain
What @Uncharted6264 is trying to say is that after the first GT, the next ones after are assessed through your US credit history, not the AU credit history and no different to calling amex and applying directly with passport. Hence needing to wait 3 to 6 months to build the credit history.

The reality is you can do GT applications probably as many times as you want. (It only helps identifies you and pushes the application through online). What amex uses to assess, whether it be your AU credit history or US history. Nobody knows and its all theoretical.

Datapoints show that need to wait ~3months or more to do 2nd GT, after which there's no longer any waiting periods for 3rd or 4th ones.

I got my first GT card last April 2024 and applied second card and approved after 4 months, we can apply as many card but its depends on your credit history with AMEX as they explain.
