Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks Finale. I got the business version too and had linked my pre-existing MB account at the application stage. I will be monitoring for any issues with linking, although the phone agent did say both my name and the business name will appear on the card.

Curious about separate points balance though, to make a redemption its best to have everything pooled. There must be a way to overcome this.

Also, you should be able to view the points earned on individual transactions under
Statements & Activity>Points Summary.

The points are pooled in Bonvoy account so no issue with redemptions. What I meant before was Amex online was showing only the number of points earned from them while you see all your points if Hilton cards. Sorry I didn't read properly. My issue with linking was I have a hyphenated surname but no hyphen with Amex.

An update on my Chase CSP application using ITIN.

I don't have much luck with SUB. Signed up for 60K SUB and a week later Chase started offering 80K. Thought about letting my app expire but decided to continue with it as I didn't want to waste one credit query. I was approved this morning.

After submitting an app,

- I got 30 days message. This is not bad as it's at least not an auto denial. It just means human has to look at my app.

- A few days later, it changed to 7-10 days messages which normally means either denial or needs verification.

According to this Chase flowchart from reddit,

I should have called them but I was waiting for the letter which never arrived. I decided to call them this week and was told I needed to mail or fax a copy of SSN/ITIN and proof of address which they accepted bank statement (was worried about this before as people reported they only accepted utility bills). I asked about secure upload which was reportedly available. I was told they didn't support it.

2 days after I faxed, I called them again and they still said my docs were not in the system and the agent said I would get a link to upload documents within 24 hours lol

- Before I got a link to upload, the message changed to 30 days again which normally means verification is done and now ready to be reviewed by lending department. Looks like they did get my fax. I was confident at this point as there weren't many cases that got rejected after being asked to submit documents.

I called this morning and was approved while on the phone with them.

If you are using Google Voice, text verification will not work. Each time I called, they tried to verify me by sending text but it failed. I was aware about this. It wasn't an issue as they could verify you with other questions. And 3 our of 4 times, I was asked what county I lived in (just google the city). Thankfully I was prepared as I heard about this before.

Anyway it wasn't as smooth as Amex and Citi but yes Chase still approves ITIN application. I'm now at 3/24 and will be 2/24 early next year. This is my 8th US active card. Will need to start cancelling some of these. In 4 years and a half, I applied for 9 cards and only cancelled one. Most of these are quite worth keeping.

Congrats mate, there’s hope for many of us then. 😎

I am still trying to retrieve my SSN. I wrote to the bureau in Manila and they wrote back to confirm they have located my SSN, but I need to be there in person and that they won’t disclose it on phone/email/letter/fax etc. I can only hope I am able to travel to Manila sometime in 2021, fingers crossed.

i dont know what happened to my us tax tin lost card and docs many years ago. is there a way to retrieve it without having to reapply for a new one?

Since revolut seems to have changed the mode of transfer to Australian bank accounts from Ozzie dollar balance is does anyone know if transferring from Revolut A $ balances to Citibank Global A$ dollar account will there be an incoming SWIFT transfer fee?

I am not aware of any changes, I am still using Revolut to do the currency exchange & then transferring USD to Citi USD. The conversion rates at Citi are awful, or at least they were when I last used that mechanism, so much prefer doing it with Revolut where they offer inter-bank rates.

I was charged $15 for an incoming credit by Anz for the first time , so something has changed . Are there no fees when you transfer from revolut to citi ? I believe there are no incoming swift fees

Oh, my mistake, I thought you meant
Bank > Revolut, I have never done it in the opposite direction. There is a small fee of around US$4 for Revolut > Citi transfers, but much better than US$20 I was paying with xe early on. No fees to pay-off the card from Citi USD > Amex.

Just applied and approved for Bonvoy business card. I used ITIN but still have to call as it is the first time using ITIN and they would like to confirm the details. A quick 2 minute call, I got approved on the spot. Since ITIN is in their system now, my future application should be good.

If you don't have ITIN, you can still get Amex business cards. You might need to call since online application might insist on ITIN. People were approved using Global Transfer as well.

I already have a basic personal bonvoy which is no longer available unless you downgrade from the premium one.

The reason I went for this business card is it's the only card that 15 elite nights stack with a personal card. Having 2 of these cards cost $220 USD but with 30 elite nights (gold status) + 2 free night certificates, I think it is a great deal. I normally use free night cer at St Regis Bangkok (about $350-$400 AUD a night). 20 nights to platinum is more manageable for me since we are not loyal to one brand. Would be even easier now as Marriott is giving 50% of Elite nights based on status in 2019.

The only thing is I'm not sure if I applied too early :p
It is good to know that with ITIN you can apply for amex business card. Does it need anything more to apply amex business card compared to amex personal card? for example in Australian you need to have a ABN?

Congratulations! It is good to know Chase still accepts ITIN and accepts bank statement for address verifications. For your ITIN letter, does it show you US address or Australia address. I have my ITIN number by calling IRS but haven't received the ITIN letter in the mail. My ITIN application has my Australia address so the letter I will receive would have Australian address shown. I guess i need to change my ITIN address to US address? In the future I will apply for chase credit card. When they asks me to provide ITIN letter I should provide then ITIN letter with USA address on it. Otherwise I guess they will reject my application.

Nope, it doesn't need anything else. Amex is pretty easy compared to other issuers.

Mine shows an Australian address. Both Citi and Chase accepted it just fine.

I guess your bank account statement has your US address? ITIN letter has an Aussie address so the bank does not care it has different address as bank account statement address.

That is correct. I believe ITIN is more for an identity verification. Citi and Chase asked me to send a copy. Amex also wanted me to confirm but can be done verbally/digitally.

Good to know. That means I don’t need to call IRS to change address and repost the ITIN letter then. I can just wait for the IRS letter to arrive at my Aussie address. IRS posted ITIN letter half a month ago and I still not received yet. How long it takes you to receive?

I don't know when they sent it but it took a bit over 2 months from the date I sent an application until I received it in my letter box. Heard it takes longer now because of COVID.
