Strategy to obtain US Amex

There is no 1 answer to this question. I opened my 1st card in April and my FICO came on in Sept. As a guide, expect anywhere between 6-12 months.

For the Chase experts out there, I just applied for the HG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card and the decision was (see below) seems like by all accounts and DP's online, flowcharts and blogs it should say We'll notify you "within 30 days" or something similar days.

Can't seem to find out if this is bad news or hopefully good news.

For those with Bonvoy Brilliant, were you able to add the card to your online account & Apple Pay immediately upon approval, or only after receiving the physical card?

Also, was the card shipped through overnight or standard delivery?

Hi Rohit, I had to wait until I received the physical card (it was my first US Amex card) and the shipping was very quick although can't recall if it was overnight or standard.

My second US Green card I could add to Apple Pay straight away so not sure if it is the order I applied or the type of card that allows use straight away.

It’s a bit annoying when they say you could add it to the account & Apple Pay straight away, but in reality you gotta wait for the card to arrive. I had the same experience, Green was up n running immediately, but every other card I have had to wait.

What does an automated status line say? I guess maybe something similar or 30 days message. Anything but instant denial is ok for now. You applied during the weekend so might take a couple of days for them to take a look at your app. Thinking about applying as well before the promo ends.

Just called the automated line and now says you will be notified in writing within 30 days. The signup and waived annual fee is really fantastic at present and for my circumstances would gain far more value with the IHG card than Hilton or Hyatt.

Will have to get my courage up and speak to someone regarding the application during the week.

I have an Australian transferwise account. Transferwise might be rolling out the US direct debit facility in stages for existing customers. After I received the email from transferwise, when I log in it shows my old USD bank details where direct debits aren't supported, and new USD bank details that do support direct debit.

Keep an eye for an email from transferwise so you don't have to log in every day, the subject of the email is "The wait is over. New and improved USD bank details are here."

I got the original SPG card that has become bonvoy (not for new app now) and the business bonvoy. Wont be able to get bonus from Chase for 2 years after getting one from Amex so I wanna get the Brilliant one next year.

Amex US Direct debit worked using the transferwise USD account! ....

In terms of how I loaded USD into the transferwise account, I just used OSKO payment using AUD and the USD was there within a few minutes.s

I have now completed a transfer to TransferWise, followed by an Amex direct debit. Worked like a charm, and will be so quick and inexpensive for my small payments.

All 4 Bonvoy cards (2 each from Chase & Amex) are worth it for Marriott loyalists. So much value.

Was able to use it immediately. Added it to Apple Pay.

I am 4/24 now. To help I can get approved for the second chase card in the future should I increase existing card limit on my boa card and Amex card? Is it hard pull when ask to increase credit limit?

Apply for Chase Business card? They are governed by 5/24 rule but do not count towards 5/24, then you can apply for another Chase issued personal card down the line. Old post I know... But haven't been keeping up on this thread for a while, but am surprised at how this discussion is still going on.

I got the ITIN 2 days ago and applied for the Citi Premier card and today I got the declined decision.

the reason is: “the consumer reporting agency serving your area has reported a limited credit history for you”

I got my first Amex card last year, this Dec is the first anniversary, the credit file showed up in June this year.

Call up AMEX & ask them to addd your ITIN number to their file same if you obtain a EIN or SSN to speed things with building credit history in USA.

For those who use OFX (Formerly Oz Forez) transferring funds from personal bank account to business banking account will run into issues. So personal must be transferred to personal accounts & business to business accounts. Not too sure about TransferWise.

Called Recon and same old issue with Google Voice but was asked some other questions to verify instead. I was put on hold quite long, over 20 mins but was approved on the spot without any hassle. Card showed up in online account straight away. Easier than I thought this time.
